Connecticut Nesties

Savings bond question.

Silly, I know - I've never bought one before.

I get these at the bank, right? Do I need any crazy info like a SSN for the recipient?

TIA!

Re: Savings bond question.

  • Yes, you get it at the bank.  It's easier if you have the recipients SSN but if you can't get it you can always use yours.
  • You don't need the SSN, someone bought one for Arianna before she was even born, so obviously she didn't need one. And I think you get them at the bank
  • Yes at bank and FYI, you dont even have to put a legit SSN on it. You can make one up.
They really only matter when they are cashed in.  The person cashing them in must give their SSN.

My mom buys them for all my cousins and when she does, she does 123-45-0408  and the0408 would be for April 2008.

    Crazy huh?
  • Yup, the bank and you can use your SSN.  I always do.

I always get confused with what size bond I want, so I usually tell them what I want to spend.  When you want pay $50, it is really a $100 bond that you are buying.
