What is it with gay marriage being overturned?

I am not going to flame people for having an opinion but I think straight people sometimes take for granted that they can get married without any issues. Why shouldn't gay people be allowed to commit to eachother the same way straight couples can? Why shouldn't they have the same rights as other couples? I think it gets complicated because there are sometimes legal issues that come up, like in hospital settings, etc where partners can't make decisions about their significan't others because they aren't legally married. I am not articualting this well but I just dont' think it's fair for them not to have the same rights.

I agree 100% with everything Joanna has wrote on this post.  With a gay sister I know how bad she has been hurt because of not having the same rights as other couples.  She and her partner have been together 10+ years and are a better couple than most couples I know.

That's it.  I would vote yes if this is ever brought to the residents of Missouri.

  • Sorry I missed the debate today! I for one am ashamed that I live in Maine right now. I am for gay marriage and equal rights. I have gay friends that are married (in Mass) and they have a better marriage and live a life full of love more than some of the heterosexual couples I know. Who are we to say that is not ok. How would you feel if for whatever reason someone told you that you could not marry your husband (obviously that would not happen but how would that make you feel??) As far as medical power of attorney google it. I jsut read something the other day that an older woman had some sort of medical emergency, her partner pulled out her power of attorney papers and they still would not let her in. The woman died. Again put yourself in their shoes. I will not flame anyone for their opinion. Everyone has the right to that. But I will stop here because this is an issue that I will not back down on and am disgusted that it did not pass

Oh and FYI-in May the legislature passed it into law, in Aug the people of Maine filed a petition to appeal it and that is how it was on our ballot yesterday. The states that it is legal it was never on a ballot for the people of the sate to vote on, it was passed by law by the state legislature

  • Mrs. Towny I agree with you 150%.
