Aside from a savings bond.. what are some ideas to give a 9 month old for his baptism? The family aren't regular church-goers, so a cross or bible isn't appropriate in this instance.
i'm a fan of checks --- can be deposited - don't have to keep them somewhere safe for 30 years... don't take up space in my house, etc... We pretty much got all checks/bonds for the twins - one frame from MIL that was ... um... ugly.
I don't like getting/giving frames, because I'm picky about the ones I use.... but that's just me.
If you aren't going to give something religious - then it's just like any other gift for a bday... toy/clothes or money/bond.
I usually give $$ for a Baptism, but I've given gift cards to Picture People type places as baby gifts and the moms really liked the idea. I laughed a little reading your title because it sounds like a contradiction - Baptism, but non-religious. But I guess a lot of non-religious people do the Baptism anyway...
I usually just give a check and when we get checks they go right into the girls accounts. Julia got a cross for her baptism and to be honest she has never worn it, which I feel terrible about, but we don't have her wear jewelry yet (except play stuff) and even when we do it's unlikely I'll pull out a cross since we're not religious at all (baptised to keep peace in the family). I have one from mine that I've worn maybe once or twice in almost 29 years.

We're not religious but are having Toby baptized next month. We're having only a few family members there, and not making a big production out of it at all. It's something I want to do for him and for my piece of mind, lol, but we're not regular church-goers or anything you'd call religious.

i'm not religious, either, but plan on having our child baptized for pretty much the same reason.

Thanks for the suggestions girls.
I got this:

This is right up the Mom's alley, so I think they'll like it.

But, yes, "seriously". It's extremely common to give money as a gift. Not sure what rock you live under.
