WHY I AM AGAINST HCR - LONG LONG LONG
Re: WHY I AM AGAINST HCR - LONG LONG LONG
I have to thank you ladies for trying to keep this civil. So many people are taking this so personally, and not sticking to the facts.
I have to admit that I, like Michelle, am not as well-informed on this issue as I would like to be, but I know that there is a need for reform. I don't like a lot of what I have read of this bill, either. But what I can't understand is why 32 other industrialized nations make this work, and have for years. Why can't we follow their established patterns?
Actually, I am required by law to obtain car insurance. In the history of the nation plenty of people have been required, by law, to purchase things. If I don't have car insurance, I get a fine. Same as the health insurance thing, no insurance = fine.
even if it was a state thing, if it was unconstitutional then it wouldn't hold up for states to require it. I don't see anything in the constitution about this whatsoever. There is no amendment about "the government shall not require you to purchase healthcare" Nothing at all. And if you read the constitution you'll see that there's nothing in there about this.
carrie, you only get a fine if you own a car and do not carry insurance. but like kristy said, that is a state requirement. each state has its own levels of car insurance required. what other things have people been required to buy? i can't think of any off the top of my head.
Beth, I totally get that if I didn't have a car I wouldn't be required and that that law is determined by the state.
However, the point I was making was in reference to her statement that "no one was ever required to purchase anything PERIOD." and how this point that she made was incorrect. It might be that way in her state, but in mine, should I choose to drive I am required by law to have car insurance.
i think she meant that no one has ever been required by the federal government to buy anything... that's one of my big issues as well with the HC bill... i'm also for less government involvement in my life. sooo that may be a factor.
here's an article i found that explains what amendment the HC bill is violating.
~~~MARRIED BIO~~~
Actually it's Workers Comp. I will pretty much flat out refuse to go on SSDI. I don't need it, I am fully capable of holding down a job even in my condition. The problem is, I was injured at work and part of the insurance rules is that I cannot work or I lose my coverage. I needed the coverage to get the surgery (though I am now regretting this) so they dictate my life. It SUCKS! But as soon as they say there isn't anything more they can do with me I'm going to get the first job that comes my way. The only reason I would go on SSDI is if I get pregnant while still covered under worker's comp and then, again, I don't have a choice. I'd have to go on it during my pregnancy for whatever stupid reason. I don't understand it, really, I just do as I'm told.
