Re: Online Dating
And now I just peed myself. Five stars.
I was a serial on-line dater. I also started on IRC back in 1993, like volenti. (Shout out now to anyone that was on the disney# or jeapordy# back then!) We had irc GTG's and everything. I later progressed to AOL chat rooms and match. The stories I've got...I don't know what my parents were thinking or what I was thinking. I'm lucky nothing bad ever happened to me.
I also remember showing some friends Mosaic, the first web browser, the summer of 1994. It was my first glimpse of the internet and thought it was so cool. Wish I had had some foresight into the possibilities back then.
This explains so much of my adventures as a single person.
I refused to pay on dates. Guys my age weren't interested. Old guys loved me.
I really thought I was going to end up someone's 2nd wife.
I did it for love the first time around.
Second time, I'm doing it MM style.
Hells yeah. If there's a second time around, I'll have babies to feed.
I'm not above pulling a Jackie Onassis and marrying the first multimillionaire who finds me attractive.
.
My brother's old girlfriends loved me!
Old school online dater here, too...
I went on one date with a guy I met on a BBS message board in 1989... not a success although he wasn't creepy.
I met my college boyfriend on Bitnet in 1991... it took us until 1992 or 1993 to realize we were interested in each other, before that we were great friends. Anyone an old fogey enough to remember THAT? We were long-distance though, and ended up breaking up right before our senior year. We'd actually talked about getting married at one point. I'm pretty sure it would have worked out had we did, but we weren't in the right place. No regrets.
I don't remember when I first started officially dating online, but I remember Yahoo personals and AOL and all that stuff, so easily before 2000 and back when it was mostly geeks.
I met DH on eharmony, so I don't have any issues with online dating... it was a great way to meet people.
LOL, talk about memories. I found IRC back in 1991 and definitely chatted with my fair share of pervs. On the other hand, I found a room of really nice people and actually met a bunch of them IRL in 2002. I was also good friends with a guy in California from 1991 until we lost touch in 2000 or so.
And I met my husband on match.com in 2003
Strangely, losing out on the opportunity to become a crazy old cat lady is the one thing that gives me mixed feelings about marriage.
(I really, really like cats)
