I love my husband

Re: I love my husband

  • yeah I just looked it up and it sounds lame. DAMN. 70% of people gain weight, and you usually only lose your period after a year of use. And it can cause bone density loss. No thanks!!

  • The Mirena IUD sometimes stops your periods entirely (can you tell that I've researched the heck out of BC methods?). It has very low doses of hormones. I have two friends who have them and they love them. I would still be afraid to use it, myself, just because once that sucker's in there, I would not want to go insane again and then have to get it taken out two months later. My gyno is one of the ones who won't give IUDs to women who've never had children, anyway.

If we weren't planning on kids in the next 2-3 years, I would push her and/or shop around for a doc who'd consider giving me a Paragard. It's the copper, hormone-free one. The most common issues with it are heavier and crampier periods, but my cycles have been lightening up the last half-year or so (no complaints; they used to be pretty heavy). I will probably get one after we're done having kids, unless HH will consider a snip or I get the early menopause "gift" like my mom.

  • Aren't IUDs the ones that can "fall out" or "get lost" or something and you would never even notice that it was gone and then get knocked up anyway?

  • I don't think so? I mean damn it's in your uterus, there really isn't anywhere for it to go but out, and I'd think you would notice that! There is still a chance you can get KU with one but I think it's pretty slim.

A friend of mine had one put in and it hurt so bad she got it taken out a few weeks later. So I'm scared of them lol. I'm going to a new gyno once they review my file, and I'm going to talk to her about options... I loved the Nuva Ring, and it was this gyno that I went to once who said that I should use something else, and she seemed a little weird to me anyway (which is why I'm going somewhere else for a second opinion!)

  • Your body can expel them (which does sound horrific), but that's rare. When it does happen it's usually to a woman who's never had kids (gynos cite that as another reason to not let us have them). There are these little "string" things that you're supposed to check periodically to make sure that everything is still in place.
  • Yeah, the whole checking for the strings thing kinda pushes me away from that option.  Not too sure about that one!!  I think I'm just going to stick with my pill.  A friend of mine was using the patch and she didn't seem to have any problems with it, but I can't even stand band-aids being on my skin for too long, so that's not an option for me either.

  • Yeah I've heard they get gross after being on your skin for 3 weeks too. Yuck! I can't wait till hubby can just get snipped :) Hah at the doctor they keep saying oh if you get cervical cancer you'll probably have to get a hysterectomy! and I'm like hmm that kinda sounds nice.. no more birth control OR periods! YAY! :)

  • BUT, if you have a hysterectomy, you have to take all kinds of hormones or else you'll go batshit crazy.... my ex's mom had a hysterectomy and wasn't taking any type of hormones and she completely flipped out and acted like a total schizo.  My mom had to have one and since there was I guess "extra room" in there afterwards, she ended up having to get a sling put in to hold up her bladder because it was falling or something.  She said that they put the sling in wrong or something one time and she could feel staples digging into her insides... ouch!!

  • Oh jeeze!! My mom had one a couple years ago and she hasn't had any issues. I hate hormones.

  • I love the "batshit crazy."

I used the patch for a while until I read that a girl had died from a blood clot associated with the patch.  Plus, it was hard to keep on my skin.  It was nice not to have to take a pill though. I'm hesistant to use Nuva Ring or the patch or an IUD, anything that delivers continuous hormones, since that gives you an increased risk of clots.

I take my pill every night with the multi vitamin I started taking b/c I was afraid I'd accidentally get KU and didn't have enough folic acid in my diet.
