Re: you know what we need?

  • Two things.

    First:

Really young: There's A Monster At The End Of This Book

OMGGGGG! This was my favorite book EVER when I was really little! I found it in a bookstore the other day and had to buy it for my kids. Big Smile (Also, totally agree - corndogs rock.)

    Second:

    imageMrsNJSwimmer:
I save the original boxes that things come in so that when we move we can pack "correctly"... I'm sure MH wouild have more to add!

I used to do this! I finally chucked them out during our last move. Then immediately regretted it when I wanted to pack something away and had to use a crap box for it lol. I don't know why I save them? I think it's something my mom did?

  • Are you much of a pack rat? If so, what do you save?

I can be...mainly sentimental things like cards and letters. And photos.

Secret time: I know this board was Lost central for a while, but I have to admit...I didn't watch it. I just didn't get what the big deal was. Have there ever been any super popular TV shows that you're not into?

I worked on Thursday nights for most of the 90's so I missed the whole Friends and Seinfeld craze.  Now that they're rerun I've seen a couple of episodes but never got into it.  I also only watched Lost the first season and they was over it. Same with Heros.

What were your favorite childhood books?

Where the Sidewalk Ends, Dr. Seuss, Curious George, Amelia Bedelia, The Chronicles of Narnia, A Wrinkle in Time.

I love green bean casserole. LOOOVE it. Like with puffy pink hearts. I know it's disgusting white trash food, but I don't care. I'm also secretly fond of tater tots. Is there any crap food you want to run away with and marry?

I love macaroni and cheese...I prefer it made from scratch, but I've been known to scarf down Velveeta Shells and Cheese too!

What fashion trend do you refuse to wear?

Most of the trends, honestly.  I tend to just go with what flatters my shape and is affordable.  I never got into the whole gladiator sandal or those open toed pumps that look like booties.  I also tend to avoid ruffles, especially ones on the chest of shirts or dresses. I am also not into the skinny jean thing...the other day I saw a pair of size 26W jeans marked "skinny fit" and I was like, "um...oxymoron?"

A wealthy relative dies and leaves you many many monies. They stipulate in their will that you have to give half to charity and can keep the rest. What charity/charities do you pick?

American Diabetes Association and several arts and music organizations that have educational outreach programs.

Do you play any musical instruments? Yes, piano, clarinet and voice Big SmileSomeday, I'd like to learn to play the cello.

I love animals, but I don't really get why people own birds (who universally hate me) and fish (you can't cuddle them). Are there any pets that you just.don't.get?

Ferrets and any other vermin-type "pets"...ew.  And snakes and reptiles, in general.

Yes  LOL I thought the same thing when I read your response!

BTW I'm with you on the open toed booties trend. Ugliest. Shoes. Ever. Seriously, who thought those things up? Hideous!

  • A Poll of Randomness. HOORAY!!! Party!!!

    * * * * *

Are you much of a pack rat? If so, what do you save?

This is so hard for me to answer. I want to say NO, because I don't keep stuff... no old letters, no cards, no dead flowers, no ticket stubs, no little bits of nostalgia. However, the reality is that our home has a "junk room". Grr. What's in there? Every toy made from 2001 until now. I'm a pack rat for my daughter. She cannot part with her toys. I indulge it. I think I need a shrink. It makes no practical sense.

Secret time: Have there ever been any super popular TV shows that you're not into?

I love LOST. I got on board 2.5 years into it. I was lost about what was happening. When regulars exclaimed, "It's Michael!" I had no idea who he was. Other than LOST, I've never been up on popular shows. I missed out on Friends years.

What were your favorite childhood books?

When I was little, I loved all Dr. Suess. I jumped from that to Thorn Birds. hahaha, my mom told me I had to stop because it was an adult book. I read Thorn Birds before I read the infamous Are you there God? It's me Margaret. I also liked Flowers in the Attic... Petals on the Wind... whatever else was in that series, just not as much as Flowers. Oh, and I liked The Velvet Room.

Is there any crap food you want to run away with and marry?

I love sweets ... crappy sweets, quality sweets... doesn't matter if it is a Twinkie or a Grand Marnier Souffle. I'll take something that sits on a shelf as long as it's made with sugar. Anyone want the recipe for TwinkieMisu?

What fashion trend do you refuse to wear?

Jeggings or anything that looks like jeans, but isn't (yes faux jean bikini, I'm talking to you). Jeans diapers for babies are hilarious, though. Good thing I'm not one of you new mamas. I would have to put my baby girl in Heelarious' hot pink high heel baby shoes and jeans diapers... just to see the disapproving glances of people in the grocery store.

A wealthy relative dies and leaves you many many monies. They stipulate in their will that you have to give half to charity and can keep the rest. What charity/charities do you pick?

I would start my own. Free vasectomies for anyone over 21 who wants one. I don't know what the equivalent for women would be... free IUD?

Do you play any musical instruments?

No. I tried flute when I was a kid.

Are there any pets that you just.don't.get?

    Roosters

When I was in Seattle, I self-diagnosed myself with Raynaud's Syndrome.   Basically, my fingers and toes get cold really easily and turn white/purple.  It was really painful and made it hard for me to do things outside when it was cold because my fingers and toes would be numb.  The Uggs saved my toesies and I was finally able to go play in the snow.  I wanted to get the gloves too, but they were way too expensive!

I have that too - self-diagnosed until I get to my endocrinologist again next month.  Apparently it's common in people with hypothyroidism too.  Maybe I should look into the uggly uggs too.

How could I have forgotten my Sweet Valley High and Choose Your Own Adventure books?!?

I have to say I HATED the choose your own adventure books!  I wanted someone else to choose for me - there were too many options!! LOL

I did love Encyclopedia Brown and Judy Blume though!  Alfred Hitchcock and the 3 Investigators series was a big one for me too.

Good to know!  I have hypothyroidism too!  Both came about while I was in Seattle, but I wasn't sure if I never noticed the Raynaud's before since I was living in Hawaii...
