What are your "extreme" political positions?

Re: What are your "extreme" political positions?

  • I would actually like to abolish 99% of unions.  I think this would help the US to get back to a manufactoring base for our economy (too much service-not enough tangible does not help our current state).

  • All of my "extreme" views have already been mentioned, so I will just list them as dittos Big Smile:

    I am pro:
    - death penalty
    - reform of our tax system to a flat or fair tax, corporate tax incentives must be clearly defined with no loopholes
    - pro-choice and abortions should be very affordable (I am digging the $5 suggestion)

  • Ditto on legalizing prostitution and marijuana.  These are definite ways to get rid of our massive deficit.
  • oh - I also think there should but no non-meat commercial animal industries - so no commercial horse racing or commercial horse racing farms. And no pet stores - only pet supple stores. Everything should be non-profit.

Oh and I also think it should be illegal to sell wild species as pets - which includes basically all reptiles, amphibians and birds.

My extreme left position is that I am against the Pledge of Alleigance.  Not just the "under god" part, but the whole damn thing.  I think its fascist.  Practically forcing children, including 4 and 5 year olds who can't possibly understand what they are saying, to recite their love for their country every single morning?  It freaks me out.  I'm so not a fan.

Extreme right...?  Hmmm...I'm against hate crime legislation, that's pretty much the one area where I agree with Republicans.

I am with you on these. I am completely creeped out by the pledge. OK, I also find singing the national anthem at sporting events WEIRD. (Don't even get me started on ND football games - why exactly must someone read the preamble to the Declaration of Independence?!)

I am also against hate crime legislation. Killing, torture, etc., is illegal. Punish the act. The motive can be taken into account by the parole board because it affects the likelihood of re-offending, but it shouldn't be a separate crime.

I have an extreme distrust of cops and prosecutors. I think we need to pump much more money into our criminal justice system (both prosecution and defense) in order to get quality results.

I'd be perfectly in favor of a single-payer healthcare system. Or something. I'm so disgusted by what we have.

I am very pro-property rights. I would never purchase a house that required belonging to a homeowner's assocation. Zoning regulations already put enough restrictions on property, and I will not voluntarily give anyone the power to limit what I can do with my property.

I am also incredibly pro-Fourth Amendment, and I absolutely despise the erosion of our Fourth Amendment rights.

  • Very interesting, thank you for responding!  Kudos to all for keeping this flame-free.  Many of you raised great issues on both sides of the political spectrum.

  • I'm kind of opposite most pp's on crime. I think the main goal of incarceration should be rehabilitation, not punishment. I do think there are clinically psychotic people out there who can't be rehabilitated. I think we need a program for these people that expands the definition of criminal insanity and sends them to a program/instiution isolated from the population. I don't even really believe in punishing these people - they're clinically ill - but the gov't should protect the rest of the citizenry from them.

I also think all factory farms should be abolished, and slaughter and raw milk production should be allowed anywhere, given contamination standards are met. All food production farms/factories/etc should be open to the public 24/7.

I'd support a restructuring of economic indicators that reflects true future costs, esp environmental ones.

    In HS I supported a one-world gov't. I've moved right since then ;-)

  • I also think the Pledge is weird and borderline fascist. It seemed normal when I was a kid, but now I think it's freaky and cultish.

And I'm with mxolosi on the trade issue.

Ditto the part on the pledge of alliegence. It is just a very odd concept for me and one that I have never understood.

I am also all for socialized health care, not just national health insurance like Obama is campaigning on.

  • I am also pro-legalization of drugs and taxing the crap outta them. I am also pro gay marriage, polygamous marriage, any kind of marriage with consenting adults. Prostitution should also be legal.

I think that animal breeders should be required to have a government issued license to breed. No puppy mills, no backyard breeders. Just true knowledgable breeders that breed to better the breed. Any violation of this would result in steep fines and the automatic spaying and nuetering of any pets on the premises (unless there was a medical issue that didnt allow for the spaying or nuetering) Becuase of this pet stores would cease to exist and we could finally focus on going pro-humane with our animal shelters in this country.

  • I am for the legalization of marijuana, but I think it should be taxed at the same rate as alcohol.

  • Extreme left: Gay marriage or pro-choice

Extreme right: Israel (and Mideast view in general)

  • I would make it illegal for anyone who believes in god or gods to hold any sort of power over other people or money.?

Um... I'm really confused about what you mean.  Do you mean that  Christian shouldn't be President?  So who do you plan to vote for, exactly?

And that Churches shouldn't be able to run charities?  Or wealthy families shouldn't be able to hire gardeners?

  • I usually only lurk here, but I have some strong feelings on this one!

Way Left: Gay marriage.  Not really that it should be legalized, but that marriage should be separate from state.  No church/organization should be told who they can and cannot marry.  Civil unions should be required for any marriage to be legal.  Which is a hassle, yes- future brides/grooms, grooms/grooms, brides/brides would all need to go to the court house or have a civil judge present at their wedding to make it legal- but then gays can be married and have full legal rights and none of those religious right wing nuts can say anything.  This is how they do it in Mexico, the only thing I really agree about that comes from there!

Way Right: I might be alone here, but lock the borders up.  Build the walls, kick out those here illegally who have no intentions of being citizens and contributing, and keep them out until we can get our own sh*t fixed up and then reopen in a structured manner.  It's pipe dream, I know, but that's my wish.  I can see Mexico from my house (I mimicked Tina Fey when I said that) and it's out of control here!  Resources are strained and I work in the schools here and SO many kids are in middle school and don't speak a lick of English.  Even those who have been here for years!  I DO want our borders re-opened eventually.  American was built by immigrants and they are valuable to our history and future.  But not like this!

I also think they should stop messing with our second ammendment rights.  Growing up we never bought meat from the grocery store.  I grew up on deer and moose that we shot ourselves and fish that we caught.  Plus corn and beans that we grew.  I think more people should grow up that way.  It's much healthier!

On that note, I also think factory farms should be outlawed and organic/free range farmers should be able to sell their good tax free (so being a farmer= no income tax) and have government buying programs for farm equipment upgrades.
