Re: Father-in-Law from HELL!
He can't get your goat if you haven't got a goat to get got.
You give FIL a lot of power here. Stop doing that. You can't control his behavior but you can control your reaction to his behavior. Right now you get all riled up and probably vent to your husband about what an obnoxious man his father is. Your FIL probably figures that his son will get tired of listening to your cr@p and divorce you. What he doesn't realize is that his son married a female version of himself.
Wow...I undertand where you are coming from completely. My father in law is the same exact way BUT he preachers RELIGION, which I can't figure out how you treat people the way you do, but yet you sit in church every week.
He is ignorant to his children, his wife, and me but to people that don't know him well, they think he is the world's greatest dad because he puts on a good show.
The difference is why the comment was made to my husband about me having too much say so on decisions, my husband stood up for "us" and said she is my wife, we discuss everything.
My husband has pretty much taken himself out of the situation, we don't see much of his father bc of his behavior. I wish you the best with him, but he'll never change!
You missed a family christening AND your DH's suprise b-day party because you chose to be there for your friends over being there for your family. Am I reading this right?
I missed my very good friends WEDDING b/c my DH (then FI) was competing in an ironman - a huge deal for him. Of course my friend's wedding was a huge deal for her and I hated to miss it. But family comes first. Or at least it should. But apparently, in your book, it appears that what you want comes first no matter what relationships are at stake.
BTW, my friend was very understanding.
I have to agree with the posted who said that you and FIL appear to be two peas in a pod. I think some self-reflection is in order.
i think it's funny, too.
i think i'd tell my dh that if he's not going to have my back while we were at the inlaw's, then i wouldn't be going over there any more. dh would be free to go over there when he pleased, but i would not be accompanying him.
