We just had vanilla cake and fondant icing (boo) but the lady said she had to use it to make that design and she still didn't do it on the top of the layers. And the groom's cake was just supposed to be the shape of the shield but she did the whole sheet cake. We had some in our get away basket and it was still good.

Bottom layer was vanilla bean w/ whipped cream and strawberry filling.  Middle tier was carrot cake (DH's fav) and top tier was lemon w/ raspberry filling.  We didnt' even cut the top tier, we had half when we got back from HM and the other half in the freezer.

Groom's cake was a surprise too (my gift to DH).  It was chocolate cake w/ chocolate mousse and choc chip filling (a replica of DH's bike).  All flavors were AH-MAY-ZING!

I love looking at all the pics!!!!!!

Here is mine!  Seashells to go with my Cape Cod / beachy theme!  We went with a golden cake for the top and bottom layers, a marble cake in the middle layer, and a buttercream frosting.

Who else saved the top to eat at your one year anniversary??

  • We saved the top, but we weren't able to freeze it right away because we stayed in a hotel that night.  We ate some the next day and told our house-sitter to have at it, then threw away what was left when we got back from our HM.  Our baker will re-make it for us, I just have to call them a month before our anniversary.

  • We ate our top tier the day after the wedding.  It was nice because we all went over to my dad's, did another cake cutting and ate that sucker.

Richard wants to order a replica of the cake.  I was like, um babe, that might be too much cake.  He then said he wants to order a replica but on a smaller scale.  He's too cute.

  • We have our top tier saved. It's still in the freezer at my parents. I should probably bring it here next time I go home since we have an extra fridge/freezer in the garage.

  • I got to chose the real cake, red velvet with chocolate mousse filling - Mmm!

And DH picked the flavours for the groom's cake (although it was a surprise when we ordered it 2 days before the wedding), classic white on white wedding cake.

  • Mine was homemade with love by my mom's SIL. It was delicious. Poundcake. She did an under the sea thing and incorporated my claddagh cake topper I was hell bent on having. LOL I was pissed off my reception venue put flameless candles ON my cake. Hello it's not my birthday it's my wedding.

  • She has done crazy cake stuff. I wanted a simple cake, as in much plainer than this, but gave her carte blanche to do what she wanted. It made her happy and it was definitely one of a kind.
