My hubby and I went to a new dog wash last weekend and it was so much fun. I have never done this with our dog before, and it was great! They gave us everything we needed to get roxy nice and clean. Please help me understand why people pay would pay to wash their own dog. I can understand if you're paying someone to do the work for you, but otherwise, this is consumerism at its best. For the $10 - $25 she charges, you can buy a bottle of shampoo and a little hose thing to attach to your faucet that will last multiple uses. And are people so lazy that they can't grab a rag, wipe up the fur and rinse the tub/sink? My dog sheds like crazy when I bathe her and it takes like 3 minutes to clean surrounding area, throw the towels into the washer and be done with it. Driving to the dog wash and back home would take longer than that. Craziness.

I believe these owners also own a doggy daycare as well. They got a hold of the email address list of the doggy daycare I use and took it upon themselves to add all of us to their email distributions.
Between that and this post, I will never go to any of their businesses. I support local businesses as much as I can but I will not support shaddy ones that are not ethical. If they post something as a customer when they are the owner, what else will they lie about in order to make money?

My reasoning is more that they have things to help get the dog INTO the tub. Our dog is big, and skittish...she tries to jump out mid bath every time. Having assistance to get her into the tub (and a tub deep enough she can't easily get out of) is worth the money to me. But, she doesn't love to be outside and doesn't get dirty often, so it's not a regular expense either.
I can see going to one - especially if you have a larger dog. I have two miniature schnauzers so they are easy to handle (plus they don't really shed at all!)

Bummer....we take Renzo to their daycare place and he loves it. It's convenient for us so I think we'd continue to take him there but since our dogs never get baths we won't be supporting their other business.
I wish I didn't have an icky vendor feeling about them now since we do like their daycare place. :-(
in all honesty, if she needed frequent bathing, we'd be hosing her off in the garage. But for the few times a year she gets one, I don't mind paying.

I'm not a lawyer, but if she signed a non-compete, how can she later complain that they expect her to abide by the terms of it?
It stinks, and if I was the former employer I'm not sure I would pursue it in this instance, but it is what it is. She can find a job > 15 miles away from her old one, and she is good to go. It isn't like the non-compete prohibits her from working anywhere ever again...
Not that I am on OP's side, but I don't think the fired employee has much worth whining about if she signed the agreement.

from what I've read, a non-compete is null and void if the employee is fired, and that legally, a non-compete can not be any longer than a year. But, according to the article, she signed because she was told she would be fired if she didn't (which also nullifies the contract because she signed under duress). Also the limitations in the non-compete have to be reasonable. I'm not 100% sure that 15 miles for a job that pays 8/hour is a reasonable requirement.
I should also add, I could not in good faith support a business who fired an employee because she missed work for a medical condition.

This was my understanding too. It seems silly to threaten someone who makes so little into a non-compete in the first place IMO.

I don't know which I find more laughable. The fact that they required a non compete in area with approximately eleventy billion doggie daycares/groomers or the fact that they made her sign one for "proprietary information".
I mean, what secrets is she going to steal? Is there some uber secret way of brushing a sheltie that only PPP knows how to do?
You know the only thing that remotely sounds plausible is the customer list, but even then the only customers you risk losing are the ones that have a reason to take their dogs all the way to St. Paul instead of SLP. Then make the kid who makes a small hourly wage sign a noncompete after hiring her? I don't doubt that there are two sides to the story, and it's been a long time since I've worked on a noncompete, but this just seems like overkill in every possible way.
Furthermore, I'm trying to figure out why the other business had to fire her. If anything, she's bound by the agreement, not the other business. Go after her, and don't be skeevy and call the other employer.
I know, I know.......I said I was done. I think the whole thing was handled piss poorly no matter what the story is, and the fact that they are insulting our intelligence with this post just makes me madder.

If you have unscrupulous or questionable business practices/ethics and/or a poor employee/customer relations reputation, you should probably not post on a message board to drum up more business.

I don't think laziness has anything to do with this at all. If we lived in a home with a backyard and more space I would wash my dog outside or even in the bathroom and then take him out to dry, etc. In a condo with limited space even for a 25-30 dog this is tough. Especialy if you have a wiggly dog who hates water and will jump out of the tub every chance he gets. At Ollu, the tub/basin is large, you can stand versus kneeling against a bath tub, you can connect the dogs collar to the side of the tub limiting his movement so he can't jump out and run all around your condo. My dog has thick hair, that takes DAYS to dry a handheld dryer does not do the trick. The use of the high powered dryer at Ollu allows him to be dry in 20 minutes versus hours of my H holding him down while I try and brush and dry him with the blow dryer.
Not everyone has the same situation.set up as you, just trying to give you a different perspective...
I just read the article. She was fired for taking two days off to have her wisdom teeth pulled?? Either there is way more to the story or her bosses were being ridiculous.
If the non-compete said "within 15 miles" and she found a place that was 12 miles away....how can she be confused about it?

Non-compete contracts are super hard to hold to anyway. I think you can get out of them easily with an argument about needing to make a living.
The whole situation does seem really awful though.
We'll be sticking with Now Boarding, and I am thankful that once I get my dogs in the tub, they stay put for the bath.

That place looks awesome! They have a POOL! I just wish it was closer. :-( PPP is so convenient for us but now I have any icky feeling about it.
