She would care what you do in your house too.  She always knows best.

    I have to vent.

We closed on our new house yesterday.  It's a bit of a fixer-upper, so there's a long list of things that need to be done.  MIL came over yesterday to see the house for the first time & she asked DH about some of the projects we want to do.  He started going through the list with her & she talked him out of several items that we had agreed on.  After she left we talked about what she said & he agreed with me that we really did want to do those projects, with the exception of one.  The one that he is supposed to be working on right now.

The house is 30 years old, the ceilings throughout are very mis-matched & have some damage.  So I want to paint them all in conjunction with the repairs that need to be made.  New flooring is getting installed this weekend, so we spent several hundred dollars on a paint sprayer so that this would be possible.

MIL doesn't think it's a good idea because her sister painted a ceiling once & "it took her all day with a roller to do one room & her back hurt afterwards, so she swore she would never paint another ceiling".

I know it won't be the easiest job.  Frankly, it will be a huge PITA.  We discussed that.  We also discussed that it really just needs to be done & that outweighs the PITA factor.  We spent money on a sprayer to make it easier & faster.  But MIL has him convinced that it just won't be worth it.

He did go out & buy a 5 gallon bucket of the paint last night.  I hope that means some ceilings get painted today.  Otherwise I might be burying a body in my big new backyard.

I feel bad venting when he is taking off work this week to paint & stuff at the house, but I'm going to be irritated if his Mommy decides what is done.  She's supposedly going to help him paint, so it could happen.  Which will result in an ugly scene later tonight.

Sorry about all of that.  For what it's worth, we've painted the ceilings downstairs.  It really wasn't that bad, and our master and family room have vaulted ceilings.  You are very smart to do the ceilings while you don't have to worry about the floors.  I intend to do the same upstairs right before we put in new carpet.

This (except the vaulted ceiling part).  We not only painted the ceilings, we also scraped down all the ugly popcorn stuff.  It took all day to do most of our less than 1200 sq ft house, but that was because it was scraping twice and painting twice, waiting for the paint to dry between coats.  So, no, not all day to do one ceiling.  Nor was it bad.  I was the painter of the ceilings when not pregnant and it wasn't bad at all.  I'd totally do it again.

Also -- Do it before the floors.  It's a HUGE PITA to cover all the flooring.  And even then we got paint drips all over and had to clean it off.

My new house is very close to yours.  She'll be there tonight.  You should come over & makes lots of comments about how the ceilings will look so nice painted & how it's not that hard of a job.  Especially when you have a sprayer & don't have to worry about getting paint on the walls or floors.

One of my neighborhood playground mommy friends has 4-month old twins (plus a 5 year old and 2 year old).  Well she's visiting her parents in CO right now one of the twins died yesterday, apparently from SIDS.  My heart is breaking for her. Sad

That is terrible. Prayers for her and her family. Was the baby with her?

ETA: I realize that sounds like a strange question, I just think it would be that much harder if I wasn't the last one to kiss my baby.

Yes, both babies were with her in CO.  She laid her down for a nap, then went back to check on her a while later and she was purple.  I can't imagine what that would feel like.

I can't imagine what she's going through, prayers for her and her family and some peace for all of them.

Ditto.  I can't imagine at all what she is going through.  Just thinking about anyone having to deal with that, makes me want to cry. :(

    Terrible.  I just can't imagine.

Lots of prayers for all of them.

Absolutely heartbreaking.  I cannot even fathom.  Prayers.

  • Tomorrow is DH's last day to drive to Houston for work.

Last day of 2 hours on the road.

Last day of driving 100 miles a day.

Last day for him to miss out on dinner and bathtime.

Last day for him to only see the girls for about 1 hour a day.

I'm so, so, so excited.  So excited I could cry.

  • Well today sucked....

My parents dog (my childhood dog) died today after a wonderful 18 year life.

And at the end of the day I found out my contract would not be renewed for next year. I'm a first year teacher and therefore was let go. It sucks but I'm very excited because DH says I can be a SAHM Big Smile

That would make those first couple of weeks of nursing - where letting down is toe-curling painful - even worse.  Slap yourself woman for even suggesting such a thing!

On an unrelated note - over the weekend I had the strangest dream.  M told me her pee pee hurt.  So I went to check out to see if she had a rash or something and her labia were swollen and purple.  I called DH in, panicking, and as I investigated a little further something started peeking out from therein and out emerged a penis (but it wasn't like a penis... it was supposed to be a penis in the dream but what I saw was more like a long flower stem emerging with a little tiny bud and petals of a flower at the end.  My baby girl was revealed to be a hermaphrodite - with a very strange little penis and all her girl parts too.

What the hell could THAT dream be all about?
