Do you have an opinion on Brazillian waxes?
Its none of my business what other people do, etc. but just in the interest of starting a discussion - what do you think about them?
I'm totally skeeved out by them. It honestly seems more unsanitary to me not have hair protecting that area. I also just don't like the whole idea that a women being hairless makes her more attractive, more sexually desireable. Its just makes them look like girls IMO.
And, yes, I do shave my legs and arms and trim the bikini area - so I'm a hypocrite.
Re: Do you have an opinion on Brazillian waxes?
Way to keep the board moving, Kathryn! I applaud you!!
Um, well here's my opinion. I'm not a big fan of body hair, I wax stuff regularly, but I think taking it all off down there is a little odd simply because it reminds me of a pre-pubescent girl. And for that reason when women talk about their husbands liking it so much it kind of makes me go
. Again, JMO. I really don't care what people choose to do!
LOL.
when I used to get Brazilian waxes I still had a little landing strip or whatever left, so I wasn't totally bare. I don't like the look of going completely bare for me, as a grown woman. But every one is obviously different in that regard.
But I have to admit, havign everything else be completely hairless? It felt very clean, although I know some feminists may attack me for that, lol.
This is what I would do if I ever grew a pair and got one done.
I think that I like my hoo-ha too much to put her through that kind of pain and discomfort.
I don't care what others do. And I don't care if their partners like it. I don't think it's a sign of some sort of perversion toward pre-pubescent girls. I don't find body hair all that attractive and can certainly understand why some folks would prefer their partner to not have any.
Have you ever gotten a regular bikini wax? That part of it (the regular bikini area) hurts WAY worse than the rest of the brazilian in my opinion.
I think it's a little excessive, but that's JMO, I don't care what other people do. I am too chicken to get any kind of waxing done (mostly because of modesty, rather than pain, interestingly), but if I wasn't chicken, I'd do some kind of wax, just not *everything*.
But I also don't want to start a beauty/grooming thing that requires me to keep going back and keep paying. This is why I don't get my hair professionally colored or my nails done (though I'd like to). I'm cheap I guess.

Not a professional one, I've done it myself though. I am pretty good at waxing myself; I've been doing it for years. That is so weird. You would think it would be the other way around.
I'm a landing strip kinda girl. Just keeping things tidy as far as I'm concerned - and I have a hard time convincing myself that that waxing lady that does it thinks I'm any more interesting than the other 500 people she's de-fuzzed that month.

you have one in your backyard at the Lowes hotel.... there is a spa there and a wonderful lady that does them. I wish I lived closer.... I would go regularly but it's just a pain to drive down there from PA every couple of weeks.
The waxing hurts for a few minutes but I never got ingrown hairs, etc that I get from shaving. It was so much better and lasted much longer. I don't like the "bald" look... I'm more of a landing strip girl.

This post is so interesting.
I've never had a waxing done, mainly b/c I hate pain. So I normally shave it, not all off, but enough. I really hate the comment, that well my partner likes it all off, so I do that for them.
Let's talk about hair on men, shall we?
Why do you hate that comment/reasoning?
I'm in this camp as well. I started getting regular Brazilians, underarm and brow waxes about a year ago, right before our wedding. It was something I always wanted to do and didn't think I'd ever have the balls to do it (pain/modesty being a big thing for me)... but I decided why not try it before the wedding/HM; what a better excuse. Now that I started I'm hooked and don't think I'll ever go back to shaving again unless it's a dire emergency (like 3 weeks ago when my esthetician called out sick the day of my appointment and I was leaving the next day for FL.) IMO it's better than shaving because it lasts longer, and it just in general feels better after the fact.
Most of the time, we clean up for our men, but do they clean up for us. LOL!
yeah I will say this I don't get (hating that comment.) H cuts his hair a certain way bc I like it. He shaves his face regularly because I like him clean-shaven. I don't tell him he HAS to shave, but he knows I like it so he does it.
How is hair elsewhere on the body different?
Gotcha.
I can't speak for other men, but if I told DH I had a serious aversion to hair, he'd likely be pretty diligent about maintaining it for my sake.
Where do you go???

Another landing strip girl here. I do it myself though, never had anyone else do it for me. I've found that if I don't shave, sex gets to be a little too "frictiony" for my enjoyment. I tried the bald look one time, meh, not for me.
I dont think I would ever have a Brazilian wax done. I may try a bikini wax once I got up the nerve to do it (pain/modesty). Heck I JUST got my eyebrows waxed for the first time about 3 weeks ago. And I was scared of pain and someone messing up my eyebrows and me looking surprised all the time. But my friend is the esthetician (sp?) and I trust her.
To each their own. I wouldnt like the chafing afterwards when things were growing back. I would feel like I was trying to start a campfire!
Oh and I am a landscaper too. I dont like the jungle look for me nor do I like the bald look.
Lenebene- I go to Spa on the Avenue (White Marsh) for my Brazilians. Ask for Kate, she's awesome! My cousin recommended her to me; I probably wouldn't have gone anywhere unless I had a rec for an esthetician.
For underarms and brows I go to Bel Air Athletic Club to Marissa, who I had gone to sporadically over the years. Since BAAC is owned by Wellbridge, their corporate doesn't allow Brazilians to be offered at their Spa. Bummer... and their bikini wax @ BAAC is the same price as a full Brazilian at Spa on the Avenue. Go figure though, brows and underarms are a lot cheaper at BAAC (long story about why I go 2 different places).
I'm sure DH would be the same way - and then after an overzealous attempt to please me I'd end up finding hair all over the bathroom for weeks. So I just stick with telling him I think hair on a man is "manly". Lol

My opinion is that I find it deeply annoying how expensive they are because it meant i had to stop getting them when we trimmed our budget.
I HATE shaving, and honestly if I'm gonna wax it i prefer to just take it down to a landing strip and be done with it. Just waxing the bikini area seems silly (for me...not knocking anybody elses personal grooming). Even the couple of times I've gone totally bare I really don't think I look like a little girl. Prepubescent girls don't have my boobs or butt.
But, no more money for waxes, so H and I both deal with my hairy self unless a bathing suit is imminent and then I shave the neccessaries and grumble about ingrown hairs.
My Goodness...another food blog. Featuring: Macarons from a old post with a photo taken by my mom for a break from my crappy food photos!
This is pretty much me... I am way to much a a wimp to even entertain the possibility.
I like them...if you want me be complete TMI about it, having it all gone while having your period is a big difference...
another TMI though, when it's all gone, I often feel like I have to wipe extra after I pee.
I alternate between full brazillian and just a bikini...depending on budget
and to me, getting your eyebrows threaded hurt worse then even having your back end waxed!!!
My personal/prof. opinon of them is that they are very unsanitary. It is very rare for estheticians to wax properly out of sheer laziness, and bc of this it's just gross IMO. I had statistics somewhere on how there was a very big increase of infections (yeast and bacterial) when brazilians became popular here. If an esthetician does not use a clean stick after every single wax application (not customer, but every time they put wax on you) they are violating state board regulations, and are creating a giant vat of other peoples hair, skin and bacteria. Gross.
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
Not like I was considering having one done, but that totally seals the deal for me. No way, no how.
