This melts my heart.
Crazy Christmas Kids!
in all honesty, when you are grieving, it doesn't matter what people say, it just matters that you know that the deceased meant something to them or touched them in some way. it will absolutely fill your soul to the brim to hear people say wonderful things and tell stories of how they related to the person. Even beter if writtenin a note or card, so he can look back at it.
all of the "focus on the positive" can be annoying. "i am so very sorry or your loss" is validating, and probably the best thing you can say. even though it seems hollow, there is nothing you can say that will make him feel better. it's just sad period... and that's okay.
*switching gears*
i just ate a bowl full of tomato, cucumber, and bell pepper from my garden and it was DELICIOUS! if only i could grow lunchmeat i would be SET!
and yes i realize i could grow lunchmeat, but ick. i'll just buy it at the store.

Awesome. Now if you could grow pre-packaged lunch meat that would be fantastic!!!
I have never particularly cared for the "Keep calm" posters, but I have found not one, but two that I adore.
That is definitely the course I try to take when trying to support someone through grief - remember some of the stories of experiences with the person that show you know how amazing and special they were. Unfortunately I never met her. She lived in MN and DH wasn't close with her so we didn't go up to visit. So I don't really know a lot about her except she was a kind, thoughtful woman who was really cool (DH told me a couple of stories about cool things she did like overriding his parents when they told him to turn off Bon Jovi because she liked the band). And she raised very strong-minded kids - both FIL and his sister are smart, stubborn, take-charge leaders. His sis gets on MIL's nerves but I identify with her, lol!
I'll try to focus on those little bits that I know and really just try to be there for him.
I definitely know the focus-on-the-positive is annoying when someone is grieving so that's why I've kept those thoughts to myself. Thanks for validating that what I'm doing is probably the best I can do even if it doesn't feel like enough.

Love both! Even though the second is soooooooooo hard to do, even after reading all the books!

[snicker]
Thanks.
It's almost AW Thursday so here goes: I called to touch base with my analyst who resigned a few weeks ago for a promotional opportunity. I've already filled her position but I care about her and want her to be successful.
While it makes me sad for her, I have to admit it made me feel great when she told me she misses me so much and wishes the world could clone managers like me.
After feeling taken for granted by the team for so long it feels good to hear that, even though I wish she was having a rewarding and fulfilling experience where she is.

One of our two grants came through. Yay!
It's less than we asked for but equal to last year. Sort of yay!
We're still waiting to hear on the big grant and because our funds are tight I'm only going to be paid at 90% (my boss has been at 80% for a year or so because of funding issues so I can't complain) for at least the next few months. Not yay.
If our second grant (by some miracle) comes through nice and hefty then my salary will go back up. It could be a lot worse but I still kind of feel like I got kicked in the stomach. Boo.
Have you seen the new posters? Neville, Malfoy, and Snape, so awesome.

Kreeper, I will gladly let you buy my dinner. When are we going?
Count me in too
I should have added "in Austin."
But dude, really, people want to go home after working all day.
Yay!!!
I bet that totally made your day!
It did. But I feel sad too. If she would have just stayed we would be rocking and rolling with A in the role of coordinator and i wouldn't be training 2 new people. Alas, she still likes her drive a lot!
Today I got an amazing letter from one of our Cristo Rey student workers. It made me cry. In a good way. Warm fuzzies!

Hugs and peace to you. Hopefully rashy lady will recover quickly... and the other anxiety-stuff will be resolved. Knowing your baby isn't feeling well can really make everythign else seem much more annoying/dramatic/sky-falling. I am a little jealous, because somethign very small is really bothering me to the point of tears this morning. I wish I had a little something to take off the edge.
And I'm pretty sure I won't be able to live with myself if I start drinking this early ; )

I had a glass of lemonade earlier and I seriously thought about what I could put in there to make myself a nice little cocktail. It was like 930. I won't judge you, it is lunchtime after all
I was looking for waterproof id holder thing and found this. I love the first review.

alas, i have to work.
my photography blog
I needed that.
That is too funny!
I watch way to many prison shows thanks to DH. When I saw it was his only review, I wondered if it was because he got shanked?
I love how this new guy starts on Tuesday, and then today he's trying to change our company standards that I'VE been writing since freaking 2008. He's trying to change them to what they were at his previous company. Does he not realize that after I wrote them that had to go to a committee, and had to be approved and agreed upon by like 15 people. After the committee the were sent up to the VP's for approval. My guess is he doesn't realize or give a crap? After the VP's agreed, then they became company standards. It's been a three year long process/battle.
Seriously who the hell does this guy think he is to come into a new job, and want to change things that took 3 years get into place?!? I know an @sswipe! It only took him 4 days, but he made the short list.
