Dear ladies that couldn't sleep last night --

I'm in the same boat. I was in bed at 9 pm, and had even taken a pill to help me sleep. I ended up finishing the book I was reading, and then being up a few hours after that besides. The worst part? The book was horrible. I love the most recent books by Sophie Kinsella (the non-Shopaholic ones) but HATE her books as Madeleine Wickham (this was the second one I've tried; I don't know why I tried again nor why I finished it).

--Nestie who doesn't want to read a "funny romantic romp" that centers around lying and cheating on spouses (and never getting caught nor feeling that remorseful).

This is the problem I have with the Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof trio. All of the cheaters in the book and at the end we are just supposed to be all fine with it, like it's no big deal. Annoying.

  • Dear Lauren,

Wow, I am so sorry.  I can't believe they didn't even sign your guest book!  Ben's parents paid for our wedding, the RD, and brunch, bought our luggage for my shower gift, and gave us money.  Even my dad who wasn't thrilled about the whole thing was generous.  I can't believe parents that act like this. What the heck is their problem?

Dear Nesties, I am swamped so I will only be in and out today.  I also can't wait for our Bachelorette discussion.  I may even try and get up early for it.

Dear Self, keep up the good work.

    Dear Mavs, please win tonight.

  • Dear Bobbiliegh-

I meant to ask you which green monster you make last week but as usual I forgot to post what I was thinking.

    Dear man in charge-

It's pretty crappy that not only do you feel the need to lie to me but to give in to someone else because they complain and yell at you too much?  I get it, you want them off of your back but at the same time you lost a whole heck of a lot of respect from me.  Oh and taking credit for the party last week?  Really low.  A. It wasn't even your idea.  B. The only thing you did was sign a card.  It really should have come from you but you didn't even think about doing anything.

    Dear CW-

Not even telling us lunch was here yesterday and only having 1 slice left at the end for 2 of us was pretty cheeky.  Thankfully I brought my lunch yesterday otherwise I would have been screwed since lunch is usually catered during the summer.  Oh and you being hot and cold is getting old.  I know, new boss will be in this week so you feel the need to suck up to us but I'm not buying what you are selling.

  • Dear Lunch,

    Hurry up, I'm hungry.

    Dear Turkey Sandwhich,

Can you please turn into something else. Italian sub from Firehouse Subs would be nice.

    Thanks,

Hungry girl not wanting a turkey sandwhich

How funny!  We are all complaining at work that we've been hungry since 10:30 am.

  • Dear Leslie,

I usually just make the standard, banana, almond milk and spinach.  Sometimes I will add pineapple and coconut and call it a green-a-cola :).  For dessert sometimes I will make a black forest one with dark sweet cherries and cocoa powder.  What are your stand bys?

My standards are similar to yours but I do a lot more berries - raspberries and bananas, strawberries and bananas, triple berry - strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, etc. If I have the calories at the end of the day I love an almond milk, peanut butter, chocolate and banana smoothie.

My friend loves (and misses) banana splits, so she will do an almond milk, vanilla powder, small bit of chocolate cherry smoothie, which I haven't tried but it does smell good!

All of the above I throw spinach into, as does my friend. It's amazing how the taste doesn't change - just the color.

Last week, a co-worker and I made this smoothie that Kathy Lee and Hoda drink.  It was:  lettuce, spinach, celery, an apple, a banana, a pear, basil, parsley, and the juice of a lemon, all organic.  It wasn't bad surprisingly.  It's supposed to cleanse and help with bloating but it hurt my stomach so I'm not doing it again.

Leslie, that sounds delicious.  When do you drink them?  Will you FB me your actual recipe?

Which one would you like? I drink them in the morning as a breakfast replacement some days and after workouts at night if I have the calorie allowance and get snacky after dinner.

  • Leslie,

I forgot sometimes I do throw in strawberries and blueberries.  I throw 2 cups of spinach into every smoothie I drink unless I am out of spinach because like you said it doesnt change the taste.

Stephie, I know you asked Leslie but I drink mine after I workout or if I am home on the weekends and am feeling the need for a snack I will try a smoothie, especially the black forest kind as it tastes like dessert.  You can pretty much take any smoothie you like and just throw raw spinach in and you have an instant serving of veggies.

I'm going to have to try this out!  If it's true, it will be a way to sneak in some more veggies for DH.

It doesnt change the taste but it will change the color to either green or brown depending on which fruit you use.  As long as you can get over the color they are delish.

  • I am totally into this smoothie thing.  Leslie/Bobbieleigh just send me your favorite ones.  What do you use for chocolate to make it chocolatey?  Do you steam the spinach first or is it uncooked?  What is the purpose of the almond milk--is there some significance to that?

I looked online and it says to put the spinach in first since it's heavier.

  • Dear Nesties,

McGowan Images is going to be offering celebration mini-sessions for $150 in July or September if they get enough interest.  It can be family, kids, seniors, engagements, bridals, etc if you know anyone that is interested.

We are looking at September. :)

This is awesome, and why I need to keep up with TK/TN in the future. I can't convince DH so soon after the wedding, but I'm hoping maybe next summer I can convince him we need to do another photo session. He's not a picture person, but I am! And we won't be at the "kids" or "family" stage for quite some time.

I'm so glad y'all are talking about these.  I used to make them and had forgotten all about them!

Stephie, I used to make them in the morning and have them as my mid-morning snack.  I always put 2-4c of spinach then 1-2c of whatever fruit is in season (I don't like bananas).  Usually strawberries, blueberries, an apple, peach, etc.  Then I'll squeeze the juice of a few clementines or 1-2c of water. Blend and drink!

Almond milk is delicious to use, but I didn't as much just because I didn't want the extra calories.  It is sweeter than regular (FF) milk, has fewer calories, and will make it creamier.

I will send you a message on fb when I get home of my faves and a few websites that have good recipes.  I use unsweetened cocoa powder to make them chocolatey.  I put the spinach in raw and I add it in last that way the liquid mixture is already whirling away to drag the spinach to the bottom and have never had a problem.  I use almond milk just because that is my milk of choice as I choose not to drink cows milk unless I have to.

  • Thanks everyone!  I can't believe I've never heard of these before.  I'm totally excited to try them!

Just start throwing things in a blender that you like, no recipe is needed.  The spinach will turn it a funky color, but doesn't change the taste.  Mix fruit combo's you like, then experiment with milk, almond milk, greek yogurt, regular yogurt, or none until you find something you like.

I LOVE the suggestions about the coco powder, I never thought of that.  Totally going to try it!

Not trying to ruffle any feathers here, because I know how everyone loves McG, but I think my photog who did my E-pics is just as good, and charges $250 less.

I would spend more than that buying overpriced prints from Sears or Walmart.   I would take fabulous pictures on disc any day of the week for that price.

I was just letting everyone know.  Yeesh.

Yes I agree for her that is a good deal apparently.

This wasn't directed at you, Tiffany. I promise. But I think there's obviously a misconception out there about how much you have to pay to get good quality pro photos.

I completely agree.  I'll have to see what Bill thinks.  We're still trying to decide about Christmas cards (yes, six months away).  We got phone calls from people about how awesome they were this year so we are worried about being able to top them.

  • Yowza $400?  Eeeek, I will have to find someone cheap if Melodie does senior pictures.  I really hope she will but it's a longshot.  *sigh*

I have been trying to find a reason to take $150 worth of pictures but I can't come up with anything.

ETA:  GM girls, do any of you add flax to your smoothies?  I saw that too and it seemed like a good idea.  But I wonder if it would make it gritty?
