I really want a thermos.  I always wish I could have one more cup of coffee in the morning, and having a thermos would fix that for me.  Plus I could make a pot of delicious percolator coffee at home and share it with coworkers instead of letting it go to waste because Nick doesn't drink coffee.

  • My second CSA pickup is tonight and we haven't even finished half of the greens we got last week. Good thing we're going to a party on Saturday--I'm bringing salad LOL.
  • I'm so looking forward to Friday and the weekend.

  • I placed an order on Barnes & Noble's website.  It was supposed to be delivered this week.  I checked my tracking number this morning and it says that USPS attempted delivery, delivery was refused, and the package is being returned to sender.

    Super Angry

I don't know who they attempted to deliver my package to, but it certainly wasn't at my house.  This is not the first time I've had problems with USPS and our mail delivery.  There is another address in town that is similar street name and number to mine, and we are forever getting each other's mail.  My only guess is that they attempted to deliver my package to those people.  One time, they left one of our packages at that house, and those nice people drove it over to our house.  I've complained to USPS about this, but apparently it doesn't make a difference.

Anyway, I called Barnes & Noble and they're kindly sending me a replacement.  I'm having it sent to my work.  I think I should probably have all my orders sent to my work in the future.

    So.Frustrating.

  • Can today's randoms be as busy as yesterday (holy cow, BTW!).

I'm in the office today for a change and would like to be entertained.  Please and thank you.

Wanna talk about Anthony Weiner?  He's resigning today.

Question: Why are politicians so self-destructive?!

  • Dudes! I just got some pretty big kudos from the national sales manager and VP of my division. Pretty exciting. It's moments like this where I feel really sad to leave this role an wonder if I'm making the worst decision of my life and career by doing so.
  • So, Andy hit a small animal on his motorcycle coming home from work on Tuesday.  I am sad that the animal died, but I'm also glad Andy didn't get hurt.  He reacted the right way, which was unfortunately to hit the animal head on.  If he would have locked up the brakes or tried to swerve he'd have almost certainly crashed.

I haven't been following too closely, but I can't help but snicker like a 12 year old when someone says his name.  I know, totally mature.

  • Diana, yay!  Glad to hear that you received some major recognition at work.  Awesome job.

Juli, glad to hear that Andy is okay.  Motorcycles make me nervous.

I giggled quite a bit when I saw a new ticker "Boehner calls for the resignation of Weiner."  I thought that was funny when you consider that people wanted to prononuce his name as boner  "Boner calls for the resignation of Weiner."

Yay - Congrats!!  Try to just be proud of the acheivement for now and not worry about any of that other grand scheme stuff.

Question: Why are politicians so self-destructive?!

I saw that on my CNN Breaking News.  As you can probably imagine, I've found the story so fascinating.  First of all, I think what he did isn't really a huge deal.  Like I felt during the Clinton/Lewinsky "scandal", I feel like the personal failings of a politician are between him and his family.  Sure they are newsworthy and I don't object to the story making headlines, but I don't think these situations should be career-ending.

As to why politicians are so self-destructive, I do think there is something to the idea that certain personality-types are more attracted to the high-stakes game of politics.  I also think that the recognition and high profile nature of the position might give the politician a sense of being "impervious to bullets" (to quote a favorite movie--Kill Bill 2).

Super scary!  Glad Andy was safe.

On a related, less scary note, L hit and killed a small animal recently too.  He said he tried to avoid hitting it by keeping the wheels on either side, but saw it flopping in his rearview mirror.  He said he was glad I wasn't driving--I would have surely closed my eyes, screamed, swerved and wrecked the car.

Question: Why are politicians so self-destructive?!

In this case, I have two questions for the Weiner:

    1) If you're not happy in your current relationship, why not just get divorced?  Yeah, there might be other issues that come up and it might be complicated, but probably not as complicated and embarassing as what you're currently going through.

    2) If you're going to cheat AND you're a public figure, why not be just a TAD more discrete about it?  He was so blatant about it, of course it would get out eventually.

No (they will in 4 weeks), and I kinda feel like an assholio about it.  However, I am trying to ease my conscience with the knowledge that it would undermine my ability to make the positive impacts that are clearly happening.

  • I agree w/ DP about his actions being between him and his family.  But when he started lying and coming up with his "hacked" story, then it became a public issue.  That's when (for me) it became a public ethics issue.  I feel so bad for his future kid.  Someday (s)he will google dad's name and find all of this stuff.

We get "This Old House" magazine.  I lovvveee looking through it.  If any of you need a father's day gift idea, a subscription might be a good one.

I'm surprised there aren't more responses in the QOTD.  Is it too tough a question?  Does it require too much time to think?  I almost did a pet peeve one.  Maybe tomorrow.

(S)he will google that last name and probably find a lot worse.  *snicker*  (Couldn't help it.)

Anyway, Diana, I agree that it shouldn't have been career ending.  His actions were a lot of things -- stupid, douchey, ill-conceived, gross -- but they were *just* photos and texts.  Yeah, he shouldn't have lied about it, but I think it's sad that a good politician was forced to resign for something like this.

It makes me so sad that his wife is pregnant.  I feel awful for her.  What crummy timing for all of this to happen at once.

There's got to be a link in the brain between motivation to be a politician and motivation to be a do this sort of nonesense.  Pity the wife of a politician.

Juli, I agree that unhappy people should divorce instead of cheat.  But I wonder if he was unhappy?  Or just wanted to have his cake and eat it too (see above politician brain comment).  And seriously, what kind of idiot uses his professional, high-profile Twitter account for this sort of thing?  He was bound to slip up at some point.

Did anyone see the Daily Show/Colbert clips about this?  HILARIOUS!!  My favorite part was their responses to the transcripts about Weiner and his lady friend watching Daily Show/Colbert to get in the mood.  Awesomeness.

Yeah, that one's way too tough for me.  That, and I guess I'm not that creative.

My guess is that he wanted the best of both worlds. He wanted a "nice" woman to settle down with and start a family. One that was good for his public image.  However he wasn't quite ready to settle down and married life wasn't as exciting as he wanted to be.

Some people have such a warpped sense of reailty and power that they think they can do anything without paying the price.

  • imageGRsweetpea:

I can see this, but I feel if the press/opposing party would treat these things as more of a private issue, we would have less likelihood of lying.  Obviously it was stupid of him to lie and even worse that he did several interviews where he continued to perpetuate the lie, but perhaps he felt that the risk of "coming clean" was too great.  It seems obvious now that the truth would come out, but maybe that was less obvious to him at the time.

I'm willing to bet that the wife may have suspected/known.  She has her own impressive career.  Not that that makes of this okay or right, but I'm sure it is far more embarrassing and hurtful to watch it all on the news.  I think the same was true for Hilary Clinton.  Obviously, I don't know this for sure, but sometimes I think these power couples might have somewhat different ideas on fidelity than the rest of us.

Me too.  I got nothing.  I couldn't even come up with a title for the novel that I wrote.
