Re: SA Wednesday

  • I have no idea why I'm up right now.  I don't have to be anywhere today and I'm a little more than half way done with packing.
  • I just had a great workout.

But another night of not so great sleep. My lower back has been killing me since last night. I swear, these BCP are the devil. I called my dr yesterday and they switched me back to my old pills that worked wonderfully. DH picked them up and I started them last night.

Hopefully these symptoms will go away soon.

I went to bed early last night, about 9pm. When I woke up this morning I noticed DH had moved my car to a carport because of the storm. So sweet. Made me go aww. Smile

  • I'm feeling good after another workout and I made it through dinner last night.  The whole family was there which was good because I didn't really have to talk.
  • I was so busy yesterday that I only drank maybe 40 ounces of water and boy did I feel it.  By the time that I got home I felt run down, had a headache and then this morning my workout just felt harder than usual. I know some of this may have been stress but I am positive it wouldnt have been as bad if I hydrated properly.

Matt I and used to always go watch fireworks in Omaha (thats when he proposed) and we want to find somewhere here to go watch them, any ideas?

Also, as the reality is setting in that it will likely be around 2 years before we buy a house I am starting to entertain the idea of renting a house.  I have a big issue with apartments and I just dont feel at home yet and I think a house would help especially with my mom living with us.  I have never rented a home and have heard horror stories so I am a little hesitant.

This made me go aww as well.

Addison has fireworks usually 2 or 3 nights around the 4th. But it's normally uber crowded.

Almost every major city has a fireworks show. I'm not sure if any are really "better" than the others. But, I would just kind of google what's around you and plan it that way.

As far as renting a home, I'm really no help in that department.

  • WR:  I will never understand the huge issue with a head table at a wedding.

Lauren, Stephie, & Renee - yep... it's being discussed AGAIN on Reception Ideas

  • BL - Here's a map of the fireworks shows from Channel 11. All my recs are Tarrant county based, so probaly too far for you guys.

My house is like 1810 this morning. We didn't have power from the storm and the city turned off our water to work on the road. I look absolutely fab this morning...lol.

I talked to DH about the bike situation and we made a deal - If I am not pregnant in September, I can have one as my (early) anniversary present. He made some good points about the heat being less of a factor then and explained to me that he was more worried about me being a beginning cyclist when I was pregnant and would feel better if I would wait until after a baby to start than the money. I pointed out it might not happen for awhile and the Sept. deal was struck. (PS - Summer, I went to a bike store and need a 54 - Thank you so much though!)

He also asked me to help him think of a way to start working out, so I will now be starting C25k again on Monday morning before work with him and then keeping my normal workouts and Bridge to 10k going in the evenings with my friend. I figured C25k is easy enough for me now that it won't be a big deal.

We are currently renting a house in Frisco and haven't really had any issues.  But I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about it! :-)  We have been in this house for almost 2 years.

You are very welcome! And DH informed me that my frame was in fact a 48, not a 52! Holy mother, I'm short! hahahah.

Sounds like y'all made a good deal. However, just because you purchase a bike doesn't mean you have to ride it on the road. You could buy one in September, pregnant or not, and if you're pregnant you could ride it inside.

Will this be your first time on a road bike? If so, I would say riding inside on a trainer first will help you get comfortable before you take on the road. That's what I did. Especially if you plan on riding clipped in. You need to practice on a trainer before you try and get out there where there are dangers like...other people. ha.

But, I'm glad y'all came to an agreement. Big Smile

  • Julie - yeah it was a little weird because the sister came to dinner, didn't order anything (according to the parents it's because she has no money) and then walked outside for the whole dinner.

    Uh yeah, a 48 - wouldn't have worked at all! :)

I actually used to ride and was very into it before I met DH (about 6 years ago.) My roomate then got me started. We rode together, she had two bikes and I used her extra bike. My friend got married and I moved in with DH and she moved to Austin so I just stopped riding. I felt bad keeping her bike and not riding it, so I gave it back to her and she sold it when she got pregnant (and bought a crib - why in the world are bikes so costly? Haha!)

About riding inside - I thought of that too, but didn't want to push DH too hard. If I am pregnant I don't think he is going to be okay with spending $500+ on a bike if we are spending a bunch on baby furniture, etc. so I am just going to let it stand as-is for now and see where we are in Sept.

Oh ok! Well cool. I thought you were just getting into it.

I really wish I could have stayed with it. It just wasn't my thing. I am too afraid of crashing, especially after the accident that I had. And that's a sport that you just can't be afraid of falling if you're going to do it.

I completely agree with not pushing DH because of the cost. We paid over $1000 for my bike, and that was on sale! And with a baby in the future, I agree your money will be better spent on other things. Wink

  • BL - we currently rent a townhome (not part of an apartment complex - or really any complex).  I just went through our first holy crap emergency with a property management company, so if you have any questions about how that works, let me know.

I thought today was Thursday.  Bummer.

Yay Lauren - I'm glad it wasn't so bad.

  • Thanks Summer and Leslie for the info on both.  In Omaha there were two huge shows every year both of which could be seen from this one whole in the wall park that no one knew about and we loved it so I am hoping to find somewhere like that here.

Sarah, On the house thing I have heard stories of people being told they have to move suddenly or are not allowed to renew their lease and I really want to find somewhere and stay there for around two years.  The idea of being there a year then having to move again before we buy a house makes me sick.  Did you look at many before you found your current house, if so did any allow 2 year leases and what are the income requirements?  Right now I have my income and my moms disability but we have nothing coming in from Matt so I am worried about that.

We did look for a while to find our house, just because we didn't want a super high payment.  The houses that were in our price range were in not so great neighborhoods or other things like that.  We did luck out on this one because it's a nice house in a nice neighborhood and is a reasonable price.  It is a three bedroom, two bathroom house and we are paying $50 more a month for it than we did for our two bedroom apartment.  And our house included the washer and dryer and the fridge!

I am not sure if a two-year lease would be available.  We signed a year lease and then when we wanted to renew again, they had no issues with it and we just signed a new lease.  I wasn't making as much as I am now when we got the house and we were still able to qualify.  Do you guys have good credit scores?  I am pretty positive that they did look at that information.  We were very fortunate because there was a lot of interest in the house and we had a good realtor that was helping us look and got our names in ASAP.  I would suggest you have someone help you look.

Matt has great credit, I have decent and my mom has horrible credit because of all her medical bills and being on disability.  I wonder if that would hurt us since we would be using her income as well.

You need a realtor to rent a house?

I will have to start just looking around a little first and seeing if its even an option I would like to stay in the carrollton area and really not pay more than 900ish but I dont know if that is even possible.

You don't have to have a realtor, I just found it easier to use one since they are free anyways.  If we hadn't used one, we probably wouldn't have gotten this house that we are in now.  I just did a TON of research online and looked at houses everyday until I found one.  Then when you do find one, you should jump on it because there are a lot of people out there looking to rent houses.

Would her name actually be on the lease?  If not, then I think they would only check you and Matt's credit, so you should be fine.

  • Bobbileigh - You can go to realtor.com and other home buying websites and you can search for 'homes for rent' as well.   Of course, not all homes for rent are in there...but it will give you a general idea.

I don't know if it helps at all, but rent on a house is typically 10% of the home's value.  Like anything it does vary, but it is a general rule of thumb.

ETA:  My last statement would make for some REALLY high rent.   I think it is 10% of the homes value PER YEAR.  lol, sorry.

  • I feel like crap this morning.  Luckily I am working from home, because I couldn't drag myself out of bed.  I have a headache, scratchy throat, and awful pressure in my ears.  My ears used to never bother me when I got sick... this is not a good development.  I feel very sorry for small children who have ear problems today.

BL, we rented a duplex before we bought our house, and loved it.  We used a realtor to find it, and we were really picky about where it was, because we wanted something pretty cheap but in a decent Dallas neighborhood.  We ended up in a really cute neighborhood with mostly houses, and one street of duplexes that look more like houses, and it really was a homey feeling.  I say give it a try!  It certainly can't hurt to look.  There are tons of online places to look, but sadly I can't remember any of them.  I think one that I found helpful was mustangrealty.com, or something like that.  That's not the realtor we used, but the site was good.

  • All this rain is really messing with my allergies and now I can't take anything for them.  They are really bad today.  I keep sneezing and I have use almost half a box of Kleenex. I'm so tired also.  I think I'm going to nap at my desk again!
