I often tell rrr that I know people who are jealous of me because he is so handy. He builds stuff, can and does handle most things around the house. Just a small example: this weekend he built me a new planter box, repared fence boards around the side gate, repainted the metal gate latches, and re-hung the gate, changed out a toilet bowl seat, replaced our shower head and hung a shelf next to his desk, all on top of his regular lawn work. He thought this was all no big deal, but I am very appreciative![Poll]

I voted yes, because there are some things that he can do, but there are a lot more handy things that I would like for him to be able to do.
Ditto this. DH assists when I need him. Usually his job is to occupy Tori.
This exactly. We are having so much fun fixing up our house. It gets stressful sometimes and I wish we had just bought an already fixed-up house at moments. But I realize I only feel that way because we both work full-time & can't do as much house stuff as we want to do.

I am so ready for our closing date so we can buy an HDTV and get rid of the TV stand!!!!
Yep, I married an awesome handyman he's currently in commercial HVAC but he's worked in most of the trades and as a mechanic. Aside from the foundation and the roof there's nothing in a normal house (or a commercial building for that matter) that he can't fix himself-- HVAC, major appliances, plumbing, electric, general handyman type carpentry and repairs, automotive, pool equipment (not that we have a pool but he's done a lot of work on my parents'). He understand machinery intuitively, it boggles my mind.
In our house so far he has gutted, enlarged and redone our master bathroom, built a walk in closet, replaced some windows and doors, patched a portion of the hardwoods that were damaged, added AC to the garage, and so many small projects I can't list them.
ETA: he's not particularly into skilled carpentry and woodworking but that's OK because his dad is and he builds gorgeous furniture.

This. And now that we have a baby, we have a hard time finding time.
melrrr, I am impressed by the number of items your DH accomplished this weekend! Dh can and will do these things, but he can't get to that many things in a weekend.

My husband COULD be handy if he just applied himself. It's like he's afraid to try. He built a gate for our fence and has replaced the fence boards. He measured and cut out our hurricane plywood to cover our windows and installed them using clips (so you know they fit well). It is like he is afraid to tinker around because he'll break something. So I do a lot of the handyman stuff around our house.
He resents that his step-dad wouldn't let him try more with electronics so if we want a light fixture replaced, he refuses to do it out of fear he'll cross wires and set the house on fire. As a result, we have a ceiling fan that has been waiting to be installed for over a year.
ETA - and clearly I am the procrastinator in calling out a handyman to do the job!

This. I knew significantly more about home repairs, basic auto mechanics, lawn equipment, etc. when DH and I got together. That being said, he really jumped on the DIY bandwagon once we became home owners and we've learned to do an enormous amount of things together.
There are just few things DH won't do - specifically electrical work. We've wanted to do some things in the attic to split the electricity in the garage. He could do it, but is hesitant because...well, electrical is a bit scary. He'll do minor stuff, though, like replace an outlet or switch.
Other than that, he's very handy.
My husband built this in 2 days! ALL BY HIMSELF! It took him about another hour or so to finish putting the swing section on it (I don't have a picture with the swings on it) but he had to go out of town so that was done a few weeks after he completed this.
I'm so incredibly proud of him!
My husband is a crane mechanic and can do a lot of things on his own. The only thing I won't let him touch is my computer! He *thinks* he can work on computers, but in reality...he can't! lol Everything else he is good at though.
We've actually discussed Js limitations. The only thing he can't (won't) do is foundation work.
My dad is handy in the temporary fix/"duct tape fixes everything" sort of way. Except for air conditioner/heater stuff - he's retired AC and is our go-to when we have issues.
This is J! I do my fair share also, but things that require tall ladders or heavy lifting fall into his domain. I was raised by an extremely handy and perfectionist father, who can and did fix everything. I've had to adjust my expectations.
DH is working on changing this space:
to an outdoor cabinet that will hold the TV and entertainment equipment. He's tired of taking it back inside when we're done. So he got the marine grade everything and is going to town.
Notice him cutting on the furniture. Maybe I'll get new stuff out of this adventure

This. I need the not just no but hell no option.
Let's just say that I was trying to put in a new toilet paper holder, and I ended up pushing the anchor through the sheetrock, so DH tried to "fix" it, and made an even bigger hole....and the TP has been sitting on the floor for over 3 months now.
He has done some things (installed an over the toilet cabinet, hangs pictures fairly straight), but for the most part, I am putting him in the "not" category.
Uh no. Not at all. He can do some minor things (replacing fence boards etc), but that's about it. I actually think he would be good at doing projects if he had the desire. He would so much rather pay someone to do it than learn himself.
He can calculate numbers like nobody I've ever met before though
My FIL and both BILs are very handy! My dad is too!
But, my husband and brother missed that talent!
But I will say that Kevin will try first, before he hires, so I admire that
