Re: Curious. Question.

  • I will be 28 this month. We have no imminent plans. I'm planning on going back to get my PsyD next year, so I probably won't have kids til after I'm done with that, if we even want to have kids.

I've always thought it would be weird to have a parent that was a therapist.

Like, I'd be yelling at them and instead of saying, "Go to your room, you are grounded forever!" like a normal parent they would sit there and say, "How does this make you feel?"

Having grown up with psychologists as parents, I can say that both scenarios happened regularly. To answer the OP's question, I was 26 when our first was born.

I don't want to be on MSNBC, yo.
  • I'm 21 and H is 24 and we don't have children and have no plans for them in the near future. I honestly don't want them for another 5 years or so, possibly longer. By that time we should have both of our bachelors done and hopefully H will be able to commission, I'll be working on my masters and we'll be married for around 8 years.

I did get married young, but did not want to fall into the stereotypical young military wife and mom by 19 with no formal education for the rest of my life. Can some young women pull it off? Absolutely, but it's rare.

  • Another one with no kids yet.

I should be 34 when this one is born though (bday is a couple of weeks after my due date...I'd better not still be pregnant then).  This is the first kid for both of us.  DH and I have only been together 5 years, married for 2.  He's been enlisted for 16 though.  He'll be 34 as well.

  • I was 21 almost 22 when we had DS, it was not a planned pregnancy but we are very blessed to have him. We were planning on waiting until I was 26 to start a family.

  • I'll be 24 when our little guy comes in September.
  • 26, 27, 29. done... done... DONE!
  • I'm 30, Dh is 31 and we don't have kids yet, but we are currently TTC.  Just 4 furbabies for the time being.  We have been married 7 years, I like that we have had time to be a couple before adding a baby.  We are also more finacially sound than we were a few years ago.  For both of us that was important.

  • Currently 32, with no kids.  Not sure when we'll start TTC, either.

  • I'll be 24. We were originally going to wait until I was closer to 26, but it just happened that C would be home for the pregnancy AND birth and well, that just wouldn't typically happen. So we went for it and were lucky enough to be successful quickly.
  • I'm 26 with no kids. Planning to wait until I'm about 29 to TTC... I'm getting the itch so we'll see how that works out. Definitely not in the next 2 years, because that would suck for me career-wise.

For the record, I'm a therapist and I plan to employ "how does that make you feel" and "go to your room, you're grounded forever!" in approximately equal measure. I'm gonna be a strict mama, if how I treat my dog is any indication.

As a non-therapist Mamma, we DO employ both. B and I look at behavior as a symptom of the real issue. If a child is acting out then they are feeling something emotionally that they are struggling to express/overcome verbally. Just sending them to their room, time-out... spanking, won't solve the actual issue.

    and back to the OP...
  • I was 24 when DD was born.

For the record, OP, I understood your question just fine how it was. Yes I do understand we have so many different people and situations on the board. I do think that your question was broad enough to consider all types though.

  • ::waves:: Hi! New here!

I'm almost 28 and no kiddos yet, hubby is quite a bit older than me (he's 40) and we are both newly (and firstly) married.  We are both doctors, so time has been scarce, we will probably start TTC in the next couple of years when our schedules slow down a bit.

  • DH is 29 and I'll be 24. We probably won't TTC for another year and a half or so.

  • Never.

Has anyone asked why you are so curious?

  • I am 30 and we have been married for just over a year.  We just started TTC when we hit our one year anniversary, but then all that pesky not being in the same state stuff got in the way.  When it happens it happens.
