Do you feel like your H is on your side when it comes to in law matters?
Re: Do you feel like your H is on your side when it comes to in law matters?
This. If you read the Bible, I would quote him the scripture about leaving your father & mother and cleaving to the wife. There's no room for a 3rd wheel!
Marriage is not a tricycle.
I don't know if I'm doing this right, I've never posted on here before, but I was just stewing about this before I got on the internet and had to say something.
My husband and I live in Colorado; his family lives in Virginia. We met when he got stationed out here with the army. While we were still dating, he got to go home to visit his family for Christmas, and I came out for a week to meet them. I thought it went well, but after I came back home, I found out that they basically hated me. They said I was "socially awkward," not his type, and that we weren't going to last. DH told me I might have come across a little bitchy, which I honestly don't know how. Then when we eloped right before he left for Afghanistan, his parents blew up, making accusations that we specifically left them out in favor of my family, although we literally didn't tell ANYONE. DH finally convinced them that we didn't purposely snub them, so points for him there. But to this day I feel like they still resent me, while they dote on his brother's fiancee. We wanted to have a real wedding this summer after DH got back, but MIL basically forbid it because his brother's wedding is this summer in North Carolina and they just are not going to travel to two weddings in one summer. So DH agreed and we moved our wedding to next summer, even though I had almost all the planning already done. And then we had another spat regarding the ILs this past week; DH came home Monday night and announced that he was on block leave and that I needed to pack my bags because we were leaving to drive to Virginia that night. I told him that was completely impractical; I have a job, and we already had plans for the whole rest of the week. Then he blew up, accusing me of not caring about his family, and he announced that he was going to buy a plane ticket and go out by himself. He changed his mind the next morning, but this is not a one-time occurence; he frequently accuses me of not caring about his family or his wanting to see them because I'm not going to just put life on hold and drive across the country to go see them. Thankfully there is at least that space between us, so the only interaction I have with them is on Facebook, where they post snide, juvenile comments on all my posts, and DH accuses me of being a *** if I respond. I'd delete them if I didn't feel like it would cause another stupid spat. DH is the most doting husband when it comes to everything else, it's just when it comes to his family he's completely blind and says I'm just imagining that they don't like me. So I feel a little bit of your pain, but my ILs are half a continent away, so they're just hateful, rather than interfering, and DH doesn't have quite as many opportunities to take their side.
