Re: Almost Friday Randoms

  • DHs birthday is in less than a month, and I have no idea what to get him....with me being a SAHM, our budget it tight!  BOOO!

  • You guys have been busy this morning!  Already a page 2!

D&M, sorry about your grandpa.  What a gift to be able to spend time with him, though.

Suze, good luck to you both with budget transition.

Mira, that's very sweet about the naming.  My brother's daughter was baby girl for a whole day.  My cousin had to name her son in order to leave the hospital. Sometimes, I guess, you know the name and sometimes you don't.

WOP, don't worry about the name.  Even if you picked a name you didn't like at all, it would eventually be your favorite word in the language, as it represents the little person who will soon live with you.

  • Mira, you watched?!  Woah.  That's awesome.  I'm also excited to hear the story.  Once you get around to it.  In the meantime, when you go home, will you have someone to help you out for the first week?

  • Here's my PSA for the day:  If you ever need to consume barium, and you are offered it in "mochachino" flavor, refuse it.  It is el diablo.  Mixed berry is not awesome, but is doable.  My catscan went fine yesterday.  Should hear from the doctor next week.

I saw a funeral procession on Leonard yesterday.  They had a police escort.  That's not common, is it?

Willa 4.6.06 and Henry 10.18.08 Camp Sinki
  • I think police escorts for funeral processions depend on the city and size of the procession.  If it's a large procession in a city area, you're more likely to see an escort to help keep the group together.  I don't think it's that uncommon.

Thanks for the barium PSA and good luck with the test results.

I wanted to say this earlier, but I'm not eloquent at all.  I'm sure you guys haven't noticed one bit!  Haha.

I was going to say you could name your daughter Eugene, and you would grow to love the name Eugene because it would remind you of your favorite thing on the planet, and how could you not have warm fuzzy feelings about a name that represented that?  :)

  • Random:  I had a dream last night that Andy gave Toby away because he was "broken."  He did it when I wasn't there, so I came home and yelled and cried because he did it without telling me.  My dream outrage woke me up.

I hate it when dream outrage wakes me!

Also random, I just noticed that all of your family member's names end in the long "e" sound (Juli, Andy, Toby, Gordie).

  • Juli: did you wake up mad at Andy?  Are you still mad?  I had a dream that Jim did something evil (I can't remember the detail), and I couldn't shake the feeling for a whole day.

    Wrigley!  Don't forget Wrigley!  haha.

  • Speaking of dreams and husband angst, did I tell you ladies about the law school dream I had a few weeks ago?

In the dream, L was so paranoid about me doing well my first year and keeping my scholarship that he attended all of my classes and took all of my exams for me.  It was time for second year to start and I was freaking out because I didn't know anyone or how to do anything.  The irony was that L (posing as me) did not do well enough to retain the scholarship.

    Those dreams are THE WORST!

H had a dream that I cheated on him with his best friend, and he woke up really upset with both of us.  It took him a while to shake that feeling too, and it wasn't pleasant.

I was wondering this as well. I had a dream that Mike did something bad. I was so upset while i was telling him about the dream and then kind of stewed about after the story was done. He said to me, "You realize that none of that actually happened, right?" with a worried look on his face. Uh, yeah, of course, sure! I was a little embarrassed how much I held on to the feeling.

    That is funny.  :)

How could I forget the kitteh?  Especially when Juli just mentioned her yesterday!

    And my observation still fits.

  • Random:  I want to rush out a cold beer to the runners that are running by my house today (In 100 degree heat...Katers, can you explain why?).  But in these parts I may get the side eye for having beer in the house.

  • The kids and I are doing a project right now.  I gave them each small paper triangles to color.  I'm cracking up because they didn't want to color in coloring books, but are taking to coloring small triangles (without knowing why) with joy and enthusiasm.

    Feelin' the zeel, eh? Wink

While I love a cold beer on a hot day, in my mind beer + running=no bueno.

Kids are funny and have such an interesting sense of (lack of?) logic.  After spending the last several days with a house full of kids ranging from almost 2 to 12 years old, this seems no more evident than in what foods they like and don't like.

Yes, I guess drinking WHILE running would equal puking.  EEW.

Some people can do it, so it's a nice thought.  Juli has mentioned that Andy has consumed beer mid-run on several occasions (including a marathon, I think).

Isn't her other cat named Jelly?  Or am I totally off?

Is it really that bad there?  I've always wondered if the rumors about that area were overblown.

Ha ha, and Jelly - We actually didn't name the cats and Jelly's real name is Gelato.  I guess we needed our long "e" ending for her though when she came into our household. :-)  I had never noticed our penchant for that ending before, lol.

GRSP - When I woke up I felt angry still, but not actually angry at Andy.

    Fun project!

There have been more children in our life lately too.  I have been enjoying them.

  • Man, Kasa, you are good!

Juli, sorry to forget about BOTH of your kitties.  I will say that anytime I see a Berner out and about, I check the leash holder to see if it's you or Andy.  This happened most recently at the art fair in Grand Haven last month.

Not during a marathon (although it was offered to him by some random drinking Irishmen during his first) but during a 5K and a 10K.  The Schmohz 5K we run every year hands out beer at every lap (3).  He tried drinking it one year and said it was awful.

However, at the 10K in New Orleans, some drag queens on a firetruck offered beer so he took some.  Since he was running slower (not killing it like in a 5k) he said the beer was actually refreshing.

Amachuta, you can turn your sprinkler on to the sidewalk to aid the runners - I LOVE running through sprinklers when it's hot out on my runs.

Not as bad as it used to be, but there are still a lot of VERY conservative people here.  I think, like alot of things, it is more of an old school thing and the younger crowd is lightening things up.

We lived in Holland about 11 years ago (crazy how time flies!), and I think Holland was pretty much that bad.  We lived in an apartment complex, so no issues with our neighbors, but there are definitely areas that are very conservative.  It is my understanding that Zeeland is even more so.

L works in Zeeland now and always says he will never again live in Holland or Zeeland.  I think our inter-racial marriage is also a factor in his feelings.

Amachuta (or any other Zeelanders or Hollanders out there)--no disrespect is intended.

Ha, there's a fair amount of Berner owners in West Michigan - but we do like to take him out when the weather is cooler so you may see us one day!  Toby has been w/o walks during this heat wave.  Even G starts panting after 5 minutes.
