August 2 randoms

Crying

It sucks being back at work after such an awesome long weekend.

So bad, that I checked the vacation calendar to take Friday off, but two people already have it off.

Re: August 2 randoms

  • Welcom back!  Hope you had a great birthday.

I need to begin limiting my nesting time.  Work is picking up steam.  And unfortunately, I don't expect it to slow down until late January.  Indifferent  And yet, here I am, first thing in the morning.  Stick out tongue

  • We installed underground sprinklers in our front yard this weekend, and I (uneducatedly) estimate that we saved about $800 doing it ourselves.  I'm really excited to start growing grass.  Ha.  :)
  • Molly, your DIY skills continue to impress me.  Great job!

Party!!!  Yay, keep it that way!  Haha.

I am jealous!  Our yard is anything but grass...I wish we had the money to take care of it better, but with me loosing my job and being chronically ill it is kind of hard :(  It is one of those "someday" projects.

I would love US.  We currently have to manually sprinkle and it's such a pain!  I admit that there have been a few times where I've forgotten to turn off the sprinklers after they had been running for almost an hour.  Oops.

  • One of my FB friends just went to Alaska and she posted photos.  They look amazing!  What a cool place.

  • At one time we looked into getting underground sprinkling.  We even went so far as to get a couple of estimates.  But we have a pretty big yard, and it would have been $$$ to have it installed.  And we're not very ambitious DIYers, so no underground sprinkling for us.
  • Hi ladies!  I had a super busy day yesterday--it started with an eye appt and continued with lots of errands, ending with installing our second fan (only one more to go).  Today should be a little easier, but I'm trying to front load all of my "to-dos" so that as school gets closer, I'm doing less.

I feel so guilty when L leaves for work.  I also didn't like saying "no" when the eye doctor asked if I worked--it seems that I'm not really cut out to be a SAHW. :P

  • Underground sprinklers are the only way we'll ever have grass.

We are just really lazy people, and would just plain not turn on/off a manual sprinkler, move it around the yard, etc. And our front yard is all dirt right now partially because we just tore it up to hook up to city water/sewer, and partially because the last few owners on the house didn't do sh!t for yard maintenece, so our yard is (was) 90% weeds.

We knew that if we ever wanted to have a decent looking yard, we needed to do underground sprinklers. We are very lucky that it was so easy to hook up (we just hooked it up into our pressure tank from our well that we no longer use since we have city water), and very lucky that it was so cheap.

Um, you seem anything but lazy when it comes to updating and maintaining your houses!

  • Glad to hear you had a productive day yesterday, Diana.  That's always a good feeling.  I was wondering what kind of plans you had for this break before school starts.

    When does school start?

Also, s/o from your "I feel guilty when L leaves for work...".  H is off all this week...I was so very envious of him still sleeping while I left for work....grrr!  Haha.  :)

  • Let's vote:  Which one is worse as a birthday gift?

    A steering wheel cover - - - or - - - nothing?

  • A steering wheel cover is worse than nothing.  At least he thought of you, but now you have the hassle of dealing with something you don't want (returning it, letting it accumulate as clutter, etc.)

  • Alaska is on our short list for the next vacation - it seems gorgeous.

D&M you rock for DIYing US.  We have watered our grass maybe 3 times in the 4 years we've lived here and it's green and healthy.  It stays very well hydrated due to where we sit - however, we get flooding in the backyard in the Spring. :-/

Does a day of fun activites count?  Because I think that trumps the steering wheel cover.

  • Pre-orientation (read: optional but highly recommended; not actual classes, just informational events) starts August 17.  Orientation (read: mandatory; one class + informational events) starts August 22.  My full schedule begins August 29.

For the break, I'm hoping to read a lot of books, clean up my house, put up the last fan, pack up stuff to move with me, and get in some relaxing and kitty cuddle time.

It would if he was the one who planned the fun day...but alas, he was not.  He just got to come along for the ride so I didn't have to do it alone.

Sounds like a good way to spend your break!

Hmmm... that's kind of a bummer then.

His excuses are what makes me the most upset.  He said he didn't have enough time.  Whatever, you've known about this for a year.  He just doesn't care.  Same BS year after year.  He won't ever get it or change, and I know that, but I still get upset.

I even made it easy this year and said 'bake me a cake and I will be happy.'  Did I get birthday cake?  Nope.

My co-worker leaves for Alaska in a few days and I cannot wait to see the pictures.  It looks so gorgeous.  We've been talking about taking a cruise there too, but haven't gotten around to it yet.  Someday... :)

How is the New Zealand trip planning going?

Very well!  We have our first week of tracks/huts and hostels booked!  Now we just have to plan the last 2 weeks. :-)

We realized though that we leave for Grand Teton/Yellowstone in 4 weeks and hadn't solidified our Yellowstone hiking route or rented a car yet - so I think we have to focus on that and then we'll return to NZ planning when we get back. :-)

  • What is the nickname "Opie" or "Opey" or however it's spelled short for?  Or is that the full name?
  • I am planning to go to the pre-orientation events, except for the Tigers game on Friday night.

Some of the events are important to me, like making sure I'm set up to run on the network with my laptop, buying a parking permit, making sure I have the right books and going to the student org fair.  Things like the community service day are less important, but since that is sandwiched between important stuff, I'll just go.
