Okay, I get the fruit fly thing, but from a pure pizza goodness standpoint, Giordano's kicks the ass of Gino's East.  Especially on crust.  Dammit, now I want Giordano's.

Hmmm.... my Chicago style pizza experience has been at Gino's East and some random place by my brother's apartment.  I've never tried Giordano's.

    Gino's is better.  Angel

  • I cant believe that it's Friday! Week went by fast!!! So what is everyone up to this weekend? I have to do laundry tonight, grocery shopping and hanging out with a friend tomorrow, and cleaning Sunday!

This is my last word on this topic, promise.

My foodie friends (see previous posts about gastronomical adventures for evidence of foodie cred) and I agree that Giordano's is the only place to enjoy the pizza of Chi-town.  **throws computer and walks away**

  • Wop, I'm glad to hear that you're doing well, despite the discomfort.  I also really like your names.

My nephew was nameless for about a day, too.  Can't believe he's turning two in a few weeks!

Mira, I hope you have a great time up north!  Is there anything you can take for your anxiety?  I hope that gets better soon.  Anxiety is no fun at all.

  • imageTheWop:

I feel pretty good.  My feet and ankles look like marshmallows by the end of the day, even with putting my fee up.  Stick out tongue  Sleeping is sometimes difficult, my hips hurt, and I go to the bathroom all.the.time, but I try not to complain.  I feel like I've had a fairly easy pregnancy so far.  The most annoying thing is driving to the Dr.'s every week for a 10 min appt for them to say "Ok, looks good, see you in another week."  I try to stay busy.  I don't like just sitting around.  I do laundry, I cook elaborate meals, bake, walk the dog.....I even get antsy watching tv.  I try to stretch or at least sit on my excercise ball in the evenings while we watch our shows. Yesterday I literally ran around the yard with the dog.  LOL.  I'm sure I looked ridiculous.

We're 95% ready for baby.  We need to get our car seat inspected and finalize our pediatrician decision, and that's pretty much it.  It's basically a waiting game now.

We won't 100% decide on a name until she's born and we actually meet her.  We have 3 names we're taking with us.  Renee, Audra, and Colette.  We'll see what she looks like once she's here.  She may be nameless for a full day before we decide, who knows.  I'm not too worried about it.  I'm sure it'll be easier once we meet her.  Smile

Love the names!  Waiting to decide on James' name was the best decision.  Originally James was not my #1 pick (nor Scott's) but when we met him it just really felt right.

And the best advice I got (from GVSUB) was to do something special/fun for me every day while I "waited"  it really did help the time pass and kept me from going too crazy.

"a discipline practiced by both scientists and food professionals that studies thephysical and chemical processes that occur while cooking"

I'll also post the link to Moto's menu, but that won't help you at all.

    http://www.motorestaurant.com/category/menu/

Sorry that clicky doesn't work on my mac.  Basically things on the menu are not what they seem.  For example, we had a "mexican cannoli" when we were there.  It looked like the sweet Italian dessert, but was really a savory dish with Mexican flavors.

I don't know if the FB link will work for you, but it includes pictures and explanatory captions for all of the courses that we had on our visit.

I would rank it in my top 3 best dining experiences.  Weezermonkey (of MM fame) has a blog about her visit there.  She wasn't as impressed as we were, but because their menu was so different from ours, it's possible that it wasn't as good.

We just loved the taste of the food, plus it was a really fun experience to discover what the dishes were and some of them were interactive like our SnowMan and the root beer float with the edible styrofoam peanut at the end.  I highly recommend it if you feel adventurous and splurgy.

  • I think we're going to the craft beer festival at John Ball Park tomorrow. Then to our friends' campground.

Sunday we are going to a fundraising dinner for the Fulton Street Farmer's Market at Trillium Haven Farm.

I am way behind on finishing posting about my Uganda trip on my blog.

Ha!  You could feed a small country for that amount of money!  Big Smile

Have you been to Lou Malnati's?  (Sorry for continuing the pizza talk, I know that you've already destroyed one computer...but it would appear you'd have no problem buying another one. Stick out tongue  KIDDING!)

Due to the post directly below this one, I pictured you going "Oh, shoot, I have to respond to Wop and Mira," and scurrying after your computer and dusting it off (since it was on the floor and all).  Big Smile

I admit, the bill made my eyes bug out of my head a bit.  Wowza!

I've been eating cake everyday since Tuesday Tongue Tied  We had our neighbors over for dinner, and I made chocolate cake for dessert, and we didn't eat it all, so the leftovers just sit around and call my name.  I only have one piece (usually with ice cream too) but I still feel guilty.  I seriously LOVE chocolate cake.  It's the one thing during this pregnancy I can't get enough of.  I need to not feel guilty.

I plan on going to Target after work to pick up some postpartum items (nursing bra, nursing tank, granny panties).  I've been wanting a new lip gloss.  Maybe I'll hit up the make up aisle Smile

    Hokey Pete!

The tax alone is more than we spend on "nice" dinners.

Did everyone get the same things, and were the pics an example of what one person would've consumed? Everything looks so tiny.

  • I kind of hate passwords.  I had a pile of post-its with passwords on them for all of the different websites that I use at work.  I just went through and wrote them all down on a list -- website, username, password.  There are 25 different sites on my list!  And that's just my work stuff.  I find it weirdly annoying.  The downside of the internet, I suppose.

    This.

Also, I love that someone said that was equal to an all inclusive trip to Mexico.  So true.  Haha.

  • Wop - ELF has some nice and cheap lip gloss and makeup.  By the way, I love the names that you had picked out. Got pics of the nursery yet?

I so just want to go home and veg and take a nap! I have been reading the book The Help and it's awesome!

This time we price lined and got the Hyatt Regency on Wacker for $96 after taxes, fees etc.  I think my bid was $79 per night.

I wonder how much we'll pay for Labor Day.  I just tried $79:  Denied!  :(

That's not bad for molecular gastronomy. I've not tried it but it's one of those things that foodies either love or hate.

And here I felt guilty about the $99 a head paired wine dinner that DH and I went to last weekend :-D

  • imageKasa:

I admit, the bill made my eyes bug out of my head a bit.  Wowza!

Joel Robuchon in Vegas (which we've been to twice) has a higher per person cost, I think.  Embarrassed

On vacation some people buy souvenirs or fly first class or stay in fancy hotels...we spend $$$ on food.  Fancy food while on vacation seemed to be our one big splurge in life.  It's something our friends enjoy, too.

And now that I'm not working, that kind of stuff is going on pause for three years.  It's funny that this year's Chicago trip cost less than that one dinner bill from last year, including everything for four people.

Everyone got the 10 course dinner at moto, and I think that friend posted a picture of each course.  It was actually the perfect amount of food.  I was worried about 10 courses, but the timing was perfect and the portions were just right.  We also shared two bottles of wine for the table.

Price aside, molecular gastronomy isn't something I'd want to do regularly, it's kind of too much of a novelty.  But the food tasted better than I expected it to and it was just so fun!

Molly, I haven't been to Lou Malnati's.  I'd be willing to try it to see how it ranks.

I'm SO glad it's Friday.  I've got some serious "senioritis" going on at work right now.  Not that I think being a new mom is going to be a vacation by any means, I'm just looking forward to spending time with my little girl Smile

I started getting realllllllly antsy when I had about 2 weeks to go, and work got realllllllly hard for me.  I am SO glad I was able to start my maternity leave a week before my due date.  It was great for my mental health, and it was also nice to have all that extra time to go to the mall to walk laps.

This for me too.  I stopped work at 39 weeks due to swelling and carpal tunnel (8 hour shifts on my feet as a nurse got tough!) and Ben wasnt born until 41 weeks.  I LOVED the last 2 weeks to lie in bed and read, and do absolutely nothing.

  • Diana that food looks awesome! I've seen a few Food Network shows with the chefs from Moto, I'd love to try it, but no way I could swallow the price haha.  Plus DH is not at all an adventurous eater so he'd hate it.

I <3 Chicago! We were there last month for the DMB caravan but didn't get to venture downtown except for 1 lunch.

    Nice pun!

It's weird because the food taste was actually more straightforward and less "weird" than some other places we've been.

But I do think you have to have at least a slightly adventurous spirit just because appearance often will give you a false impression of the dish.  The "sushi" for example was warm and not cold and didn't taste at all like sushi.
