Since Noah will be waking from his nap soon, I should probably think about taking a shower and brushing my teeth.  So thankful that DH did not come home for lunch today, he would have wondered where the stink was coming from! Stick out tongue

Ha, last Friday I didn't take a shower until 4:00 p.m., right before I had to start dinner so it would be ready in time for L getting home from work.

Haha..."dinner smells awesome honey, but..  **sniff, sniff** ..what is that OTHER smell?!"

    Ditto this.

And good thing your last name isn't Nickleson Smile

    Yes

I also agree with this.  If you really like Colette, I'd say go with it.

Hypothetical (or not, as I don't know your HHI's) question:  If your HHI was $250k, would you be comfortable with a $1m house if you put down 20% in a LCOL area?

    Definitely hypo for us.

I would probably not be comfortable with a $1M house/$800,000 mortgage.  However, L and I like to keep our fixed expenses very low.  Also, having become homeowners during this era, we are extremely reluctant to tie up so much of our income/net worth in housing.

Honestly, if I had $200K saved to put down, I'd probably rather buy a $300K house and pay off the remaining $100K in less than 5 years.

It does somewhat depend on location, however.  If $1M would buy me Lake Michigan frontage, it might be something I would consider depending on my lifestyle and other expenses.  If we are just talking about a bigger/fancier house, then definitely no.  The square footage $1M could buy you in this area would be impossible to maintain without help.  It would also depend on how our income was distributed.  If one spouse earns $50K and the other earns $200K, I would be much more reluctant than if both spouses earn $125K.

That's not bad for molecular gastronomy. I've not tried it but it's one of those things that foodies either love or hate.

    You should go, Wendy!

I'll add it to my list :-)

I'm sure your list is pretty long :)

They have great wine at Moto, too!

    Same here :)

To answer my own question in short form:  Hell to the no.

We like to live life, and not be handcuffed to our house.

It was posted on BAH earlier today.  Most of the posters answered no, but a few answered they would do it.  I said that I live in a LCOL area and $500k would buy us a gorgeous house.  No need to spend a million in a true LCOL area to have a beautiful home.

That's a very good point.  I can't even imagine what I'd do with a million dollar home!  Good grief!  I would never, ever be able to find my cats.  Ha!

  • "We like to live life, and not be handcuffed to our house"

Yes, that is exactly what I meant.

I wouldn't be able to eat at Moto if I had an $800K mortgage Stick out tongue

Molly, would you do it for Lake MI frontage?  I definitely might.  I wouldn't mind being handcuffed to that!

    So true!

And forget the cats, I could probably have two other families squatting in my house and not know it.

  • My SIL just randomly texted me to tell me about the therapy that she apparently just started.  She's really excited about the potential.  I'm really happy to hear that she started therapy.  I think that's a big step in the right direction.  Hopefully it helps her.

No, I wouldn't.  I want a lake house, but not a Lake Michigan house.  I know that's probably weird.  I don't think I've ever seen a boat docked at a house in Lk MI, but maybe that's because the beaches are private?

LOL at not being able to eat at Moto.

That's cool.  I hope it helps her and that the first thing her therapist says is "Puppies are not relationship glue.  Stop getting puppies."

    LMAO!  For reals.

And, I also wouldn't do it for Lake MI frontage.  You can get a house on Lake Huron for way less, and it's almost as nice.  I'd also settle on a house on a nice inland lake for far less than a million.  I just can't imagine paying a million for a house, for any circumstances.

Apparently they're beginning with "mother issues" first.  Maybe puppies will be next.

How about $1M for a Spring Lake house?  I think that's the most prestigious "boater's lake" in the area.

I don't really care that much about having a boat, but if there was any reasonable way I could afford it, would just adore a Lake MI view.  I daydream about how I would build the house to take full advantage of the view, walking out my back door and taking walks on the beach during all seasons...

A house on Lake MI is one of my "if I won the lottery purchases."

  • Okay, time for me to go play law school student.

Student org fair today!  And then I get to go home to my kitteh!  Yay!

Ah, yes.  This is an excellent point.  I could also pay someone else to find my husband when he inevitably gets loss in our giant house.

  • I almost hit a mama turkey and her two babies this morning.  I had to slam on my brakes.  My lunch and some paper work went flying.

Me almost hitting animals is such a huge down fal of living where I do.  :(  Deer, turtles, birds, turkeys.  Ugh.  Crying

Sorry!  HHI = household income.  LCOL = low cost of living area

  • The rest of my afternoon took a weird turn and I haven't been back online until now.  Sorry, I jetted out so fast!

Chymes, hope your photography appointments went well!  That does sound like a tough assignment.

Thanks! I do think it went well. One of the grandkids was very late and this made her mom pretty pissed, so getting those two to smile naturally was a challenge...but other than that they were all very pleasant.

Charity - yes, but on a less regular or "professional" basis than, say, Tigers. Wink I do love it when I get to do it, however. Some of my stuff is at studiobhb dot com if you're curious.
