I just spent the morning reading about half marathon training, TTC and halfs, pregnancy and halfs etc. I have decided and I am putting it here so I can't go back:

If I do not get pregnant this cycle I am going to train for the Cowtown Half. I will train as hard as I can and if I get pregnant I will make a decision then about sticking with the half or reducing to the 10k or 5k. I am scared to death but also really excited!

On another note -- I paused before posting this here due to our past "visitors" and will remain vague because of that:

A wedding vendor asked me for advice on something related to my field of experience, so I gave her some advice and then ended up hooking her up with one of my friends who runs a business that offered a service she needed. My friend cut her a serious deal (like 50% off) and she balked at the price. She is now asking me a lot of questions and I am getting a little eye-rolly because she is asking things that are specific to her project and would involve me calling a third party to find out. I usually charge $$$ when I do this service for others. I kind of feel like I don't really owe her anything since the wedding service offered was paid at full price and I only met with her the few times to deal with that service, so I don't really know her...but I am also the most non-confrontational person EVER...argh.

Dear sweet Jesus, help this remain here on the Nest, I can not deal with the fall out.

That's it.  I'm hitting Twitter now.

    PREACH.

Leslie, I'll once again comment even though last time got me name-called and black-listed. The fact of the matter is, you offer a service for a price. I totally understand not being confrontational, but I think it's totally acceptable and RESPECTABLE to email saying, "Hey! I'm absolutely in a position to be able to help you with X, but because of my workload, I really can't afford to do it for free right now. I typically charge X for consulting work like this, and would be happy to come up with some sort of discount given our background. If that's out of your budget, I totally get that, but we all gotta pay the bills! :) Thanks for understanding!"

In my experience, when you thank someone for understanding, they feel pretty stupid responding negatively. :)

  • This status made me lol a little bit... whichever side you're on, it's kinda clever.

"BREAKING NEWS!  President Obama has just confirmed that the DC Earthquake occurred on a rate and obscure fault-line, apparently known as "Bush's Fault".  Obama also announced that the Secret Service and Maxine Waters continue an investigation of the quake's suspicious ties to Tea Party.  Conservatives however have proven that it was caused by the founding fathers rolling in their graves."

  • I'm really excited that our first night back in Texas we will be eating & staying at The Big Texan!
  • I have already gotten used to leaving around 3:15 PM (twenty minutes after my last class is over) and I'm sad that I have to stay to meet my colleague and can't go home this afternoon.  One afternoon, I cooked dinner and another afternoon, I was able to get through two loads of laundry.

The last time I was in Vegas, I was 19 so I'm jealous of all you heading out there in the near future.  We're talking about it but we have to get past a trip to Orlando in November (it's business and my birthday).

    Stephie,

I had to laugh at your comment that you have nothing else to do since you've planned it all out.  That's me!!!!  When we went to NYC for our HM, I had every day planned out--same thing for our trips to WDW.  At least you had fun doing it, and you can rest easy once you get there that you have it all planned out and don't have to worry about not knowing where to go or what to do.

Nothing like a 72 oz steak to say "Howdy!"

I just ate half a Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell and it was amazing after being without for 8 months. I ran 5 miles last night and have part two of 30 DS tonight, I feel it was deserved.

Julie, I know RIGHT?  Ben looked at the itinerary last night and declared it perfect, darn it.  My problem is I tend to overplan so I tried to keep lots of free time in there.  Case in point was when I took Mel to Disney and planned almost every step.  So much so that she would be wanting to do something and I would be like "No, let's go, we have to be at Chef Mikey's in 10 minutes!"  So I vow never to do that again.

  • Do you guys ever feel invisible?  Not in a low self esteem kind of way, but like...ACTUALLY invisible?

Something seems to happen every single day that makes me want to say "Um, hello... I'm here!".   People walk right in front of me like I'm not even there, store associates greet someone next to me but not me, and many other random situations like that.

  • Stephie -  What do you have planned for Vegas exactly?  I'm curious.

For three years, one of our aides was a cafeteria monitor (so thankful I never had that job) and I would walk by her every day, smile and say hello.  For three years nothing!  Now, I just keep on walking.  I have watched one administrator walk right by groups of teachers but stop to talk to a student.  Like for three minutes or more.

Yeah, until something goes wrong, then all of a sudden they know exactly where I'm at!

Yes, this happens to me sometimes!  Especially in stores.  Once, I went in the Neiman Marcus Christmas Store at Northpark.  They were giving out chocolates, and the lady gave one to the person in front of me, but not me.  I kept meandering over by her like I was browsing, just to see if she'd give me one, but she never did, and I didn't ask because I felt too awkward.

And another thing that really weird me out - street lights go out when I drive by them ALL THE TIME.  And my headlights are so dim, so it's not like the light thinks it's suddenly daytime again or something.  It really bugs me.

    Here are the highlihghts

Day 1: We get there early so breakfast at either Wicked Spoon at Cosmo or Bellagio; walk the center strip and sightsee; check in; dinner (maybe at Mon Ami Gabi--somewhere where we can see the fountain show hopefully).  Then The Pub at Monte Carlo--this is for Ben.  It's like a huge Flying Saucer with like 200 beers.

Day 2:  Sightsee North Strip; lunch at Stripburger; dinner at Mesa Grill; drinks at Chandelier Bar at Cosmo.  This is for me and I am getting the S'mores martini.

Day 3:  Titanic exhibit at Luxor; sightsee south strip; Zumanity show; dinner at Fleur; drinks at Mix Lounge.

Day 4:  Sunday brunch at Four Seasons; pool day; dinner at Verandah (FS).  This is the day we won't leave the hotel.

And then Monday we leave, wah.  Show me yours!

Haha, oh wow. I don't plan like that in Vegas because it is so laid back.  Ours consists of doing whatever we want, whenever want..and that is exactly how we want it. :-)

So ours will consist of Breakfast, Sightsee, Shop,  Pool, Spa, Dinner, Gamble, repeat. ;-)

The only thing we have specifically planned is going to the Lion King on Sunday evening.

Hee, see, I would go crazy without a plan.  Crazy.  But there is alot of free time in there, and this is just a guide.  It makes me feel better.  I want to get a massage at some point--I am hoping I can talk Ben into letting me on Thursday since I think Qua at Ceasar's has them for $99.

    Julie,

Would you mind sharing some stuff on your NYC HM?  That's another place I'd love to go.  Where did you stay, for how long, etc?

  • Man, all this travel talk is aggravating my wanderlust... and I just got back! We've got San Diego in December, hopefully Vegas for a convention in February, Port A next September (annual family trip) and Aruba next October... but I'm going to try to work in a girls trip to NYC to visit a friend sometime. I LOVE traveling, and every chance I get to explore someplace new, I'll take it!

  • I have no vacations planned, and it really makes me sad to not have anything to look forward to and plan, because I love planning almost as much as I love the trip.  But, DH's schedule is too up in the air right now... he has zero weekdays off of school for this semester (except maybe Thanksgiving - he isn't sure about that), and then after Christmas he'll be trying to get a new job so it's hard to plan something for then, because when he gets this new job, he probably won't get any time off for a while.  I think it'd be nice to go somewhere around Christmas, before he starts looking for this new job, but since we're on my income only right now, it would be a pretty dinky (aka not very long or expensive) vacation...

Anybody got any suggestions for a fun-but-dinky vacation we can take this winter???

Do you  have enough time to go down to San Antonio? We spent 3 days there on our honeymoon and loved it! We stayed at The Riverwalk Vista which was absolutely lovely. Great prices, afternoon lemonade/cookies (it was summer), wine in the evenings, we got in room massages at a good price, good location (1 block from anything you would want to do in SA)...highly recommend it!

    Julie,

Would you mind sharing some stuff on your NYC HM?  That's another place I'd love to go.  Where did you stay, for how long, etc?

On our HM, we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Downtown.  Free hot breakfast (which we took advantage of most mornings) and free cocktail party in the evenings (which we were never around for).  Now, I've also stayed at the Doubletree Metropolitan (on Lexington Ave. in Midtown), the Grand Hyatt (near Grand Central Station) and the New York Palace Hotel (right behind St. Patrick's and within walking distance of Times Square).  The one I enjoyed the most was the last one because, due to the snow storm, we were able to walk everywhere my friend and I needed to (for the most part).

Things we did on our HM:  American Museum of Natural History, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island (which I enjoyed a lot), wandered around Chinatown (Fake City), Little Italy, went on a bus tour of the city (use Grayline only, surprisingly they're the red buses; you can buy one ticket from them to do the sightseeing of most of Manhattan, and it's hop on/hop off, plus you can do a bus tour of Brooklyn, which I haven't gotten to do yet).  There's also the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) which I didn't care for; the only reason to go is to see Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and a few other classic paintings by Impressionists.  There's the Gugenheim which I haven't been to yet and countless other smaller museums.  You can visit the World Trade Center site, Trinity Church (you really want to go here if you've ever seen the original "National Treasure").  You can visit the Federal Hall Monument which was kind of the first capitol building and Wall Street.  I feel like I'm forgetting things....

If you want restaurant recs too, I can give you a few.  I will give you one:  BLT Steak.  Best steak ever, along with the awesome popovers, and the chocolate peanut butter mousse.  I'm drooling now......
