Re: Updates?

  • I guess I'll start!

On the pregnant front, I'm still pregnant. I was in the hospital last weekend in labor but luckily it stopped. They let me go home last Monday because my water hasn't broken yet. However, I am already 4cm. I go back to the doctors today to get re-checked.

Andrew is in 4th grade now and playing football. He is growing up too fast and gaining his father & mothers sarcastic-ness.

Chase started Pre-K last week (2- half days a week) and loved it. He also started soccer and goes back and forth between liking it and being pissed off that he doesn't get the ball as often as he wants.

Bella. Oh Bella. She is something else. So sweet and yet such a drama queen already. She recently started talking so much more and has become a little parrot these days. She also has a baby mullet that I try to disguise with pony tails.

  • Besides us getting the house. My brother, SIL and nieces are moving to mantua nj. My brother getting married no longer hates me because he was excited about giving house advice to us (whatever). Milo is standing and can walk with his push cart a little. It is terrifying.
  • T - good to hear you are still pregnant!

I hit 28 weeks on Sunday so I'm officially in my third tri.  Holy sh!t is that scary!

Everything hurts now - my lower back is killing me and I have shooting pains in my butt and down my left leg.  My middle back is super tense.  My prenatal massage yesterday helped a little but most of the pain and tension is back.  And I'm having a difficult time breathing.  I already have a lower lung capacity compared to the average adult so I think this is why I'm experiencing a tightness and shortness of breath even though I'm still not that big.  The heartburn has kicked it up a couple notches and I had a fun reflux episode Saturday night.  And my belly hurts overall due to the stretching.  Boy, I sound like a ball of fun!

  • dear quattro- stay put until october.  your mom wants to be able to bring you home from the hospital right away, okay?  thanks.

we are all doing well.  it is kind of crazy getting used to going back to work but i like being back at my job.  i am up super early and in work by 730a so i can get out early and pick up little man from daycare.  its hard juggling everything that needs to get done every day/night but we are slowly figuring it all out.

little joe is growing like a weed.  he laughs and smiles all the time.  he will "talk" and mimic noises we make.  this is going to be trouble as he gets older, i need to curb the sailor mouth.  we are still working on rolling but he is actually showing an interest in it now, so that makes me feel better.  he is such a good baby and makes us and our families so happy.  i could never believe all of that stuff before he was born but its true.

  • Oh, and anyone have ear problems when they were pregnant?

I don't have any pain in my ears but I'm starting to have trouble hearing out of my left ear.  When I breathe or talk, it sounds wonky, like that sound that you hear when your stick your ear to a seashell.

  • Work is incredibly busy.

Graduate school is good, but kind of boring.  I still haven't heard about transfer credits, and it's making me antsy.

FI is running for local office, so he is busy all the time.

And we're getting married 2 months from today.

I have too much going on.

i did but i do all the time.  i chalked it up to my allergies, not being able to take what i usually do, and my increased effing nosebleeds.  those were horrid.  if you are normally a sinusy/stuffy person i feel like being pregnant just amplified all of that for me.

eta: try using an alcohol wipe in your ear.  it seems to dry out some of the gunk, at least for a little while.

  • Thanks E.  I'm not stuffy though and I don't have allergies.  I go for my monthly OB appt tomorrow so I'll see if they have one of those ear scopes to take a look.  If not, I'll make an appointment for my regular doc.

Speaking of regular doctors, when do you get your flu shot and your booster for tetanus and whooping cough, before or after having the baby?

Could be from all the extra fluid your body makes. I had sinus problems when I was pregnant. All that ent crap is related. Also, I got my flu shot in 2nd tri but the whooping cough/pertussis I didn't get til right before I was discharged after delivery.

  • Doing great here. Luciana is at an awesome but exhausting phase. She mastered sitting, crawling, and pulling up all within a week of each other. She's now starting to stand unassisted and I feel like she's going to be walking within about a month. I'm not ready for it. Her personality is coming out-she's so happy but very stubborn. If we could get her to nap a lil more at dc things would bevperfect.

As for me, we're going on vaca next week. Can't wait. I've decided I need some hobbies so I've started sewing and being a lil crafty. I'm having a great time with it. Also, I hate that I have to work. Hate.

  • Things are going pretty well.  Claire will be a year old on Saturday.  I am amazed at how quickly time has gone.  She is a feisty little one.  She is such a happy baby most times, but when she gets mad, oh does she let us know.  She is crawling all over the place, cruising along the furniture and seems ready to walk, she just isn't quite there yet, and I'm okay with that :-)

Larrysdarling, I also have had alot of trouble making peace with the working mom thing.  I hate every second of it.  I have no choice, so I try and do the best that I can, but it's rough.  If you have any tips for making it more bearable, please share them.

I'd like to thank you ladies for being so welcoming here.

  • From the spawn free front...DH and I just celebrated our two year anniversary last Monday. Work has been pretty busy for both of us.  We still have a few odds and ends to complete around the house and then I can finally start decorating and finishing to buy furniture.  My seasonal gig is winding down, and as much as I enjoy it, I am looking forward to not running from one job to another for a while and having weekends entirely free again.

    Oh....GO PHILLIES!!

    Honestly, I've got nothing.

I always thought I'd want to continue working. We never planned for me to sah. I just take it one day at a time. Its taken me months to reconcile, however, that this is not temporary, that I am back to work for good, and it's going to stay that way. I told dh that if we have #2, I'm quitting bc the cost of dc is so high that working would be hard to justify.

  • I just wrote a super long post that got ate by the interwebz.  I am pissed.

Anyway, 37 weeks pregnant as of today (3 cheers to full term!).  I'm tired, cranky, sore and still feel like I have a million things to do.  I'm no closer to having this kid than I was 6 months ago.  Everyone and everything is pissing me off.  I want to stop working and sleep all the time but that's not exactly reasonable as we need the money since I get zero dollars paid for leave.  I had to not so politely tell my MIL to keep her paws off my belly yesterday.  That went over real well.  And my DH is making me insane because he's a giant slob.  Every time I get organized, he sets me back.

::sigh:: Is it October 10th yet?

  • And visual update that Milo is no longer anywhere near the infant stage image Also he got called a girl this weekend. He was wearing all black. Made me lol that it was one of the most boy outfits i have.

I got a flu shot and I got H1N1 when I was pregnant.  I was either in my first trimester or  early in my 2nd, I can't remember.  I just got it when it was flu season, I don't think it matters what trimester you are.  The pertussis vaccine was given to me while I was still in a stupor right after the c section.  I had no problem with them giving it to me but they didn't even ask or tell me.  I remember being startled by the needle and asking them what they were doing and she said it was the pertussis vaccine and I just shut my eyes and fell back to sleep lol.

We're doing good.  Ering, I totally get what you mean about how your little guy makes the family happy.   We were at a family party yesterday and I love that he makes everyone smile and laugh and sort brings my dad closer to his brothers and sisters because that relationship has always been strained.

The kid is starting to talk a lot more now.  His favorite thing to say is, "uh oh, what did you do"?  It's so funny because his voice is so angelic and he usually says it right after he hurls a toy at me :)

  • Hello!  I started back to work last week after maternity leave.  I was actually looking forward to it. It's nice to have a schedule

Bridget started Pre K - 3 full days.  She loves it- she's a social butterfly. Loves making new friends.  Plus she started ballet last week.  Again- loves it.  It' so cute to see her in a pink leotard and bun.

TJ will be 8 weeks on Thurs!  He's so laid back and easy going.   He's such a chunk and I love it.  He's outgrowing clothes so fast.  I won't buy him anything smaller than 6 mos.

And I'm still trying to change my sig pic.  I fear I may be pregnant forever according to the nest.

  • Not much going on here without spawn, except that I am now under 2 months away from our destination wedding trip to Turks and Caicos.  So psyched!  We are also going to start TTCing soon, eek!  I'm so ready for it though and I'm actually really happy with the way our timeline worked out in the end.

I have to survive two bachelorette weekends in a row -- this weekend in DC and next in the Lehigh Valley.  I am seriously not sure if I have the stamina to do this back to back.  I am also seeing the Smashing Pumpkins next month with one of my BFF's and it's the 13 or 14 year reunion of when we last saw them at the Tower, which kind of rules.

My softball team also kicks major @ss and I cannot wait to play in this weather tonight.

Work is crazy already and it's only the beginning of a long year ahead.

My furbaby Fiona is the love of my life. I seriously never realize how attached I could get to a dog.  I can't find any good pics right now, boo.  But she has 2 Halloween outfits already and lets just say that neither of them is a costume. Embarrassed

Wait, WHY IS MY AVATAR PREGGERS??? I think it's trying to tell me something!

  • nothing new here.. 38 weeks pregnant, tired, cranky, etc. if one more person tells me to sleep now while I have the chance because I will never sleep again, I might cutabitch.

I am still loving this weather and went to Linvilla yesterday and got some fall goodies and a mum.

  • The mr and I have had quite the busy September. We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary over Labor Day weekend and celebrated with our friends at some great spots in Fishtown, NoLibs, and ended at the Khyber.

The weekend after that was my cousin's destination wedding on Bald Head Island, NC. We had horrible issues with US Airways (delays, mechanical problems, then no direct flights, blah blah blah). We eventually got to the island at 11:30 am on Saturday (a day late), got to our house by noon and the wedding was at 4:30. BUT, we made it! His bride looked lovely and my cousin grinned from ear to ear all day.  It was a ton of fun.  We got up the morning of the wedding and started back to Philadelphia. Let me tell you, flying on the 10th anniversary on 9/11 was weird and very nerve-wracking (especially since I don't enjoy flying at all).

This past weekend was full of friends and fun--birthday party on Saturday night, and then a flag football game in the morning. Unfortunately, one of our players got her bell rung pretty bad, and I spent the afternoon in the ER. She's ok, and no concussion!  Then, on Sunday night, there was an impromptu get together of three of my college friends. I don't get to see them very often.  One was in town on business and the other two are very busy with their families (two and three kids), but the four of us went out to dinner and had a great night.

This weekend is my big trip to UT. I have the National Trail Racing championships on Sunday morning--gulp!--and we'll be racing on Snowbasin Mountain. This is the same mountain where they held the downhill skiing events for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.  We fly out Friday AM, have all day Friday and Saturday and then I race Sunday and we catch a 5:30pm flight home.  I'm very excited, nervous and happy that I have this opportunity.

I think I"m going to do NOTHING in October because September has been so busy.

  • Good afternoon ladies!

As of tomorrow I will be 39 weeks pregnant and really ready to birth this baby.   At my last doctors appointment I was 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced, but I know you can walk around for weeks at a cm dilated, so I don't think this little monster will be popping out anytime this week.  Whomp whomp.

Today is my first day of maternity leave and I'm already bored out of my skull.  The baby's room is mostly ready-- the hubs and I are going to apply the decal tonight (hopefully).  I have a feeling I am going to be doing a lot of baking this week-- anyone like pumpkin muffins?  ;)

Question to all the preggos and moms out there:  did you have a lot of pain in your ribs towards the end?  I feel like I swallowed a stick sideways.

  • haha Jewels - I will take your avatar!  We are back into TTC mode now that I have been cleared post-m/c.  Naturally I bought a HPT on Saturday and AF arrived promptly Sunday morning.  tear.  PS - TMI alert:  anyone here with a m/c have horrible AF in the months after?  For me, everything that used to happen to me seems to be amplified.  My face is a million times worse than it ever has been. Grrrr!

School is back in session, which essentially means I turn into a pumpkin and disappear from the face of the earth until I get settled into the year.  I've been in my classroom until at least 6pm every day.  Then I go home, cook dinner, work-out/run, and then do more work until 11ish every night.  I have a really challenging boy this year and I have never worked with issues like his before.  So lots of extra time is devoted to learning how to accomodate and modify everything to meet his needs.  Luckily he is a really great kid, so at least I don't have any behavior issues to deal with.  Other than that, I am teaching AP psych, which is my absolute favorite - great group of boys and we have been able to do some fun stuff so far.  I love being able to teach something that has direct relevance - even better when the boys can see how it will translate.

My only other news is that I ran my first 5K since June and am really happy with my time!  I stopped running over the summer to treat myself to the gym classes that I can't take during the school year.  Considering I only picked it up again Labor Day weekend, I wasn't expecting to be able to run the whole course - it was a hilly one!  But I did it and I'm pretty proud of myself.

Glad to hear all the PG mamas are still PG - only a few more weeks until a bunch of new babies!

  • Where to begin?

Since it seems to be anniversary season, we celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary on August 24th and my birthday was September 4th. We didn't do much for either, just had some friends over labor day weekend and pretty much got sh!tfaced. Note (please don't anyone take this the wrong way): but sweet lord can you Irish people drink!!! I'll admit it, i'm a punk that can't hang, it was 5am and our neighbors who we had over were still going strong.

The Kid turned 19 in July, she's been doing okay.  She's working two jobs (at Staples and at daycare), paying her bills and finding her way through life. She's thinking that she may want to go back to school for early childhood education since she really seems to like it and is good at it.

Taryn turned 3 August 1st, didn't do much in the way of a party, just hung out at home.  She was potty trained at a little over 2, was perfect for about 6-7 months, then has totally decided to reject the potty for #1, she'll do #2, just not #1.  Its frustrating beyond all hell, but the pedi tells us to just let it go and i'm having some real big problems with that.

Jocelyn. She's the one who is going to be my difficult child. She's seeing an OT for her issues with eating and talking.  We've (me and the OT) come to the conclusion that she's fully capable of doing both, doesn't really have any health or developmental issues that effect either, she just does what she wants when she wants to. If she's in a certain mood, she'll try to go all day without eating. Good times.

I too struggle big time with the working mom thing. And having a job you don't like doesn't help at all.

  • Danica is somehow 4 months old this week and I have no idea how that happened so quickly. She has her 4 month appointment (with shots) tonight so I'm sending the husband piece to take her bc I'll be at work. She's such a good baby and is an awesome sleeper which I'm so thankful for because our son was a horrible sleeper. She really is a dream baby and I would take twins of her in a heartbeat.

Hunter is 9, in 4th grade, and is still more than obsessed with his baby sister. He's such a big help and honestly, I love the age difference between the 2 of them. I was worried about it at first but it worked out so well.

I've been back to work for 2 weeks now but while home on maternity leave for 15 weeks, I realized that I'm not the SAHM type and I hated having to live off my husband. I went back to work after 15 weeks and it was OK for the first week but it didn't take me too long to realize how much I hate what I'm doing here... as well as the commute here.  It just sucks because my pay, bonus and job stability are awesome. I'm a bit scared to leave in this economy so I'm just going to try to suck it up. I was actually ready to return to work after the 15 weeks but I think it made it so much easier to return to work because my mom is watching the baby during the day while we are at work. I initially signed her up for daycare and then cried my eyes out in the parking lot because I didn't want strangers watching her and all the kids there were so sick there. :( I toured the infant room and all of the babies were coughing their lungs out and had green snot hanging out of their noses. When my mom said she would watch the baby for us, we were so relieved. I'm so thankful we have her.

On 9/11 I threw my husband a surprise 30th birthday party and it was a huge success. About 86 adults and 28 kids were all at our house which was a bit crazy but thank god it didn't rain. He ended up being really surprised which made all of the crazy planning worth it.

Other than that, not too much is going on. My FIL is moving to FL soon and I cannot wait for him to be far, far away.

Jen I know you just had one but I have a prenatal massage scheduled for this Saturday.  I have been rescheduled by this woman a bunch of times (due to my doc's office - not her) but I can let you know how it goes and if it goes well, I can refer you.  I have been having insufferable hip pain from sleeping on my sides.

One of the previous prenatal massages I had was done by this woman's partner and she was amazing.  She told me a story of how one of her patients literally chased her down on the street and BEGGED her to be in the delivery room with her after a massage and she agreed, but hasn't done it since.  I remember she massaged my hands and it was oddly the most relaxing part of the whole thing.
