Re: OL Tuesday
Ah, wow! I saw your status and was racking my brain thinking of things that would be inappropriate to bargain shop for. I was thinking of goods though, not services... and certainly not childrens services!
Yeesh.
I have a FB friend who is just as bad. She is a single mom to 3. The first two she had while married, and this third one was fathered by a guy I gather she never really actually dated. She posts ALL THE TIME about trying to track this guy down to pay child support. She quotes the texts he sends her where he denies the child is his. She also doesn't work and I assume she lives off the child support her ex gives her and whatever she earns cutting hair out of her house.
It's like a FB soap opera. I'd hide her, but I can't turn away from the trainwreck that is her wall!
Typically the listing agent has to refer you to someone else in their office. The agent generally can't represent both the buyer and seller because it is a conflict of interest.
Any agent can show you the properties, so if you don't have an agent.. I'd call the listing office and speak with someone who is available to show them to you. I'm sure they would be more than happy to do it ASAP.
This exactly. You have to get your own realtor.
Dear Angela,
1, I loooove your siggy picture, and 2, I can't believe your wedding is 2.5 weeks away!!!

Child care is expensive, plain and simple. And as you said, daycare workers are underpaid as it is too. I worked at Primrose (one of the more expensive schools) on and off for 3 years. I left making $9/hour. I made nothing. If someone had offered to pay me $25/day to watch their infant I would have laughed at them and told them good luck. And the girl that pays $85 for 2 kids. Are you dropping them at an actual licensed facility or just some random place and pray they don't get hurt?
We are shopping for daycares now. I knew it would be expensive. Most places I called in the Bedford area are anywhere from $250-280/week. We got very lucky and our neighbor works at a church in the area in the infant room and told us there is an opening. It's still $200/week but I know the lady, I'm comfortable with her and it is a church environment which I wanted too. Anything less than that for an infant and honestly I'd be wondering what I was sacrificing for the too good to be ture price.
Someone recently was asking why Mack and I don't live in DFW, since we drive in to work there 3-5 times a week. I explained that we'd have to hike our prices WAY up to compensate for childcare, and that living out here in the country, we're near my parents and grandparents. Free, reliable, super trustworthy babysitting. No brainer.
This person said, "Oh, you can get really cheap babysitting if you aren't too picky."
Um... well, I'm gonna be picky. They're my kids! I wouldn't trust a place that charged $125 a week for an infant, honestly. They're not going to attract quality employees for that. Yeesh, scary.
Tiffany and TexanTreasure,
Thank you! I did not know that
. Technically I did email the owner of the realty company that the listing agent works for, not the listing agent directly ... so maybe they'll think that's what I meant all along. But probably not. I admitted in the email I didn't know much about the process.
---Girl who doesn't like being so clueless and needs to do some more research on all this, ASAP.
That would be my concern. My main concern. And are they paying to upkeep the building? Am I sure that they're all up to date in their licensing and insurance? There's so many variables and when it comes to my child, it's not something I would ever chance. The lowest for an infant I have EVER seen is $200... like Dana said and it was a church daycare.
Bio
Your fine! My Mom is a realtor a few hours away or else I probably would not have known that when we went to buy.
Honestly, if someone in their office hasn't responded to you by now, I would call someone else. Anyone from any office can definitely help you.
It is good to find someone you trust and work exclusively with them in your search. They can help you find homes similar to your tastes and budget that you may not have found on your own.
ETA: I don't know where your looking but I have a friend who is an agent in Dallas who says he would be happy to help you. Just let me know if you want his info.
Dear Nesties,
This is a strange OL for me but I need some feedback. I am writing a letter of recommendation for a student who started a quidditch league here at the school. When I mention that in his letter, do I need to describe it since it is highly possible that the person reading the letter has no idea about quidditch or Harry Potter (maybe they lived under a rock....
) ?
Dear Julie,
I would provide some context for it seeing as how I have no idea what quidditch is and I don't live under a rock.
-Me
Could you generalize it and say that he started a sports league? That way, he isn't "that Harry Potter kid."
This... I love HP, and I think a quidditch league where you can't fly is a little, um, interesting. Did they gallop around on brooms like stick horses?

Dear Life,
We need a break from the bad. Stat.
Dear Potential Job,
F YOU. Seriously. 2 days before the interview you call to indefinitely postpone. I don't care that you really like me, and once there is a new opening you will call. That does me no good right now. UGH.
Dear Money,
If you could magically just appear in my bank account, I would be eternally grateful.
