Kate, I love those weekends - my mom comes to help sometimes too.  It's just so nice to have someone to help motivate you to get the last bit of projects finished.

Oh, and I thought of two AWs, with all this house talk... My new pantry is really close to being complete!  Everything is stained, and two of the six doors are hung.  I was an idiot and only ordered half the needed hinges, so we have to wait a few more days to get the rest.  It's turning out to look reallllllly close to the original cabinetry, so I'm super excited about that.  The only issue is the handles - I cannot find anything even remotely similar (because mine are very old fashioned) and I haven't found any I like better to replace them all.  So, my pantry just won't have any handles for a while (or, ever, probably).

AW #2:  James bought paint for the kitchen!  It's been in a sad state of chaos since April, when we finished the floors, because I couldn't pick a color.  I finally googled Sherwin Williams' most popular beiges, and chose from those.  Hopefully I like them!  In all of my vacation time over the next couple of months I am going to paint the walls and ceiling.  I can't wait to have the kitchen completely back to normal!

Couldn't pick paint since April?  You sound like me!!

I bought six different samples of wall paint - didn't like any of them in the kitchen or the bedroom (which had a wall patch over a year ago - that's still primer-white).  I also mixed some colors myself, of stuff I had around the house... nope, hated those too.  I'm very indecisive.  I was wanting something not-beige, but couldn't choose, so just went with beige after all.  My sister suggested just letting someone else choose the color for me - that's when I went on the hunt for SW's most popular colors.  I figured that if America likes them, I'll like them too... although, at least 4 of my sample colors were also in that list of 25, so who knows.

  • I also love the dark wood.  I think most houses I've seen with wood still have wood in the entry way but what do I know.  We've discussed the same thing if we put wood in and I don't think we've come to a conclusion.

I have no AWs and I'm very sad.  I can AW Ben's grandmother--we're going to her birthday dinner Sunday and she is 102.  One. Oh. Two.  And still kickin' it.

We bought over 10 samples for the living room and dining room before we decided! It took us 6 months and DH and his roommate at the time were constantly talking about my "colors." It took a long time but it was well worth all the trouble. Well at least to me.Embarrassed

     Leslie check yours again.

  • This is not an AW, but I can't help it.

Does the baby in the sling suit on the home page for the board bother anyone else?  It's kind of weirded me out for 2 days now.

I don't see the baby in the sling. I think that's made especially for you!

  • These babies on the Bump homepage freak me out, but I don't think these are the ones you are talking about:

Whoah.   You make my sling look like nothing!   I will post it if it comes back.

  • Speaking of babies in slings... I saw a website once with genius inventions.  One of them was a holder-thingy for your baby, so that when you use a public restroom you can hang them on the purse hook.  It was so funny, but I also thought, Hmm, that's not a bad idea.......

    What's for lunch?

I'd be worried about the hook breaking off and the baby falling!

I'm having leftovers from last night - chicken, rice with black beans, and the part I'm most looking forward to, corn slaw.

  • Leslie - In the top corner of the Nest.

Angie - It's kind of like that.... it's this little bodysuit thing and the baby is dangling there from who knows what.  it doesn't show that part.

    Weird.

I made it up, lol. Red cabbage, fresh corn, green onions, mayo, lime juice, salt and cumin.

  • It is Thursday so I only have 45 minutes between work and school, so it's Subway - 6 inch turkey on wheat, toasted with american cheese, lettuce, tomato, spinach, green peppers and yellow mustard with baked Lays and unsweet tea. I am a creature of habit. :)

  • Hey ladies!  I've missed ya!  It's been a while so I thought I would come give an update!

My surgery turned into something bigger than we anticipated. The tumor on my left thyroid turned out to be cancerous so they removed my whole thyroid. I only have Stage 1 cancer.  The good news is the doc is sure he got all the cancer bc he removed other tissue in my neck/chin/chest area too to test. I will have to do radiation pill treatments in a month to make sure the cancer is really gone. It's been a shock to everyone. I go back to work on Monday and I am feeling much better each day. I am still sore though!

Wow! T&Ps with you! It's good they are doing the follow up radiation for preventative care. I agree are you ok to go back to work Monday?

Oh my goodness, I was wondering how you were doing! I'm so glad it sounds like you'll be able to move past this relatively easily, I hope it's all smooth sailing from here on out! What will having your whole thyroid gone do? Will you have to take thyroid hormone pills?

  • Mandaroo -- so sorry it turned out to be bigger (and scarier) than you thought, but I'm glad they got it all!

I was just about to jump in and complain about all the house talk bumming me out, since we looked at a bunch this week and didn't like any. But then you went and put it in perspective for me!

And I love the dark hardwood! My dream house would be all hard wood and tile (any potentially wet areas). I thought we'd put a fixer-upper and do that, but sadly all the fixer-uppers we looked at needed a LOT more work than just the floors. Like, foundation issues. Yuck!
