Violet, if you're around... can we talk about this?
Re: Violet, if you're around... can we talk about this?
You're right, I really hate Helen Keller, and I want everyone else to as well. That makes much more sense.
Any delusion I had that Violet was a partially intellectual woman just went flying out the window with this whole thread and her subsequent "gotcha!" comments.

Can't speak for what anyone else wants, but personally, I think an acknowledgement that the 'joke' was in poor taste would be helpful. That you claim, basically, "I wasn't saying they can't LEARN, just that they can't learn THAT MUCH' isn't really something 'ha ha' funny. And I know, I don't have to like your sense of humor, whatev. But the fact that you think playing w/ those prejudices and stereotypes is funny is distasteful
I think it would clear the air too if you were ACTUALLY posting what you think--because you at one moment say 'it was a joke' and the next say 'but really, isn't it unbelievable?'

It wasn't really a joke, I certainly wasn't trying to poke fun at the deaf/blind. I just wasn't being entirely serious and the post was supposed to be lighthearted and ridiculous. It was in poor taste and I apologize.
I have thought that her story was pretty unbelievable, but like I said, I don't know a lot about her, or her life. I've never researched her (besides a quick google search last night) and I certainly don't know enough about her to really think she's a fraud (I got that stuff from the google search).
The only thing that was supposed to be a funny was how ridiculous 'I don't believe in Helen Keller" is and the inevitable fallout.
I didn't mean to offend anyone, and I wasn't trying to say "gotcha" either. I was trying to show that I wasn't being serious, and it just snowballed.
There is nothing I can do to change your mind, but this really isn't what I was doing.
