Random question - has anyone been to Nacogdoches?!?!? DH and I are looking for somewhere to go this weekend. Just Sat-Sun, and it came up on my google search. Otherwise, any recommendations? Has to be within 3-5 hour drive....

My BFF went to SFA, so all I know of Nach is a college town full of young people and drinking. There is a nice hotel there called the Fredonia, but other than that all I ever did there was drink and dance...haha! This is probably no help.

HA! Oh my - well, from the way they "advertise", they make it sound like it's a cute little historical town with antiques and a lake.

Interesting. Not that I'm opposed to drinking and dancing....but not at a bunch of college bars. Not quite the romantic, low-key weekend trip we had in mind....

  • mnkate - I can't remember how far it is but the last time Ben and I were looking for a cheap getaway, we were going to go to Hot Springs.  We ended up going to Vegas instead.

Danielle--sorry to hear the cheesecake was a bust!  We did the fried pecan pie this time--it was just OK.  Like I said Friday, I am over the fair.

Sara - so jealous you are going to Vegas!  I already told Ben I want to go back the weekend of my birthday in April and stay on the North end of the strip since we never got down there.

Great - thank you! I'll look into it and see what I can find. That sounds perfect to me.

This times 100.  We are going in a few weeks!  I was also considering Fredericksburg.

  • I really really really want a little vacation.  I've kind of toyed with the idea of going somewhere before Christmas, because James will be done with school on 12/16, and I have a lot of vacation time so we could go somewhere then... but I just don't know where to go.  We aren't skiers, and don't have a lot of cold-weather gear.... any not-too-frigid, inexpensive destinations come to mind?
  • Leslie- I used to watch that show all the time!  I totally want that costume now! :-p

Those who watched the walking dead...did y'all like that episode?  I hate how they ended it because I really want to know where the little girl went!  And I thought it was creepy when they went into the church and those zombies were just sitting there.

Glad T-Swift was good, boo for the rest of the weekend. Regarding Vegas, you must report back and let me know what you did. We still have like one thing planned for our trip in three weeks. I badly need to work on that.

I will let you know how the trip goes!  Our nights are already planned (Viva Elvis, Elton John and the OU/Tech game at Blondies).  We have been to Vegas so much that I am kinda struggling to find ways to spend my daytime hours (the others will be gambling!).  It may be pool time for me.

So we may have just ordered those shirts... we can totally wear them on a regular basis, right? :)

On the walking dead - It's harder to watch with DH because he sort of knows where the storyline is going (although there are differences from the graphic novels).  I'm still hoping that they find the girl before they head to that farm.

    One Word: Mexico!

  • So remember the other day we were talking about mistaking people for being pregnant? Well, on Saturday Courts and I decided to go to Cafe Brazil for dinner. I pulled a shirt out of my closet that I hadn't worn since I've gained weight. I wasn't sold on it, but Courts said it looked cute so I went with it. We got to the restaurant, and I ordered pancakes, and Courts ordered quesadillas. He asked for salsa, and the waitress said "no hot sauce or habanero?" Then she asked me if I'd like hot sauce and I laughed since I got pancakes. Then she said "You never know when you're pregnant!" I froze and as soon as she left I told DH that I'm never wearing that top again. Then I went to the bathroom and cried. Ugh, it was miserable. Courts was pissed! He said he wished there was a bar so I could order a bunch of drinks and she what she'd say then.

Other than that, my weekend was great! lol

Oh no! Did you guys tell her?  This is why I firmly believe that you never say ANYTHING until the person admits to being pregnant.  How awful.  I am sorry, Anna. I think you're gorgeous!

Sad I'm sorry you had this experience.  For what it's worth, I think you are gorgeous, too.

  • Ugh, Anna, I am so sorry!  It was the top, not you!  ;)

Ugh, I just pigged out on Boss' Day leftovers.  My bad eating continues.

  • Thanks for the encouragement ladies! We didn't say anything to her, but I'm pretty sure she saw the look on my face. I got over it pretty quickly though. And the pancakes were good :)

    Tomorrow is another day Wink

And ditto on the top Anna.  Sorry you had to deal with that this weekend.  As much as we love our guys and yes some may have some fashion sense, sometimes it is best not to listen to them.

  • I don't think I really understand the concept of Boss's Day.  Anyone care to explain?

My boss is a couple thousand miles away and I'm not even sure he knows I got married, so maybe that is part of why I don't get it, but ... don't I work hard every single day to make him look good?   Why would I buy him gifts?

I have had bosses that barely knew I existed and bosses that were involved in my work life and were aware of things in my personal life. In some way I was involved in getting them a gift for Bosses Day.

I kind of feel like in some instances Bosses Day is a way to suck up and get points and in some it's a way to let someone know you appreciate them making working every day not suck as much as it could.

Well I for one was happy that it was on a Sunday so I didn't feel obligated to do anything.  And even better, I had completely forgot about it until reading this thread.  Since you have administrative professionals day, they have to even it out so everyone is included, like Mother's Day and Father's Day.  Maybe?  That is my thinking.  Some people around here get their panties in a twist if they aren't recognized.

I bet it's a bit different for those that LOVE their boss, like my grandma.  She's been retired either 2 or 3 years now and she still sends her boss stuff on this day.

Hmm, well call me a bad employee then.  I've never gotten anyone a Boss's Day gift, ever.  Hah.

Jaymi - That would make sense except I'm neither a boss or an administrative person.  Hrmph.

  • Anna - I'm so sorry that happened to you.  I agree with everyone else too...you're gorgeous!!

I went to my OB/GYN today and she didn't feel any cysts or anything abnormal, so now I have to go back on Wednesday for blood work, on the 26th for a follow up, and then on Nov. 1st for a pelvic sonogram.  Hopefully after all of that she will have some answers for me!

  • Lacy- I hope you get things figured out and get some answers!

  • Anna - I'm sorry she said that I hope one of y'all said something to her so she doesn't do that to anyone else in the future.

Tiffany - We actually gave our boss something for Boss's day today. It wasn't to suck up we really like the guy. He's a great boss and we wanted to get him something. Last year we got him this gold glitter shirt that was two sizes too small as a gag gift before we got him his real gift. We joke around with him a lot and he's the only thing keeping me at the job.. oh yea the pay checks too.

You ladies are making me just want to take the rest of the PTO I have a go on vacation!

  • Boss' Day is like Secretaries Day for bosses.  We are a very close office.  The staff always caters lunch and makes dessert for the attorneys.  I always get fabulous gifts for both secretaries' day/my birthday and Christmas.  So I'm happy to do something for the bosses.  It doesn't have anything to do with sucking up.

  • I just want to point out that I said in some instances it is sucking up and in some it's a form of appreciation.

I can say with 100% certainty when I worked at a corporation of thousands and a department of hundreds, it was totally about getting name recognition with the boss, no other reason.

When I worked at a firm of 20 people and my boss was a close confidant and a great guy, it was about showing appreciation.

  • In non-boss related news - I have three hours until class starts, have to eat dinner out and really, really, really want to eat chips and salsa instead of a meal. This weekend was a diet disaster and I feel like this is a bad idea. Yet...I am still considering it.

Do it!!  You work hard...you deserve it! Devil

  • So i haven't been on much today with the whole starting at a new location thing.

This weekend was productive - DH and i got a storage unit and have about 75% of our apartment moved/packed and/or stored. although we'll probably have to move most of this weekend too - i guess that's what i get for packing a whole 8 hours worth before we actually to the moving portion of the equation :(

I saw a couple of posts about the fair - i REALLY want to go. but its going to be put off one more year :(. FIL actually went saturday though - he left his I4 in one of the test cars they had out. I felt so bad for him and his bad luck - but then yesterday he walked into an AT&T store in highland park - and just straight up bought an I4S. There were about 150 people waiting in line in frisco saturday - and he just walks into a random store with no line and buys one. sheesh. bad luck made up for i guess. Sucks he paid full price (he wasnt due for an upgrade) there went $700+

I liked it but I did think they were just screwing around with the church and should have been looking for the little girl. My jaw dropped at the end though...was not expecting that.
