I think she said something along the lines of "or some other malady". I think we all assumed that it was a genetic defect but I don't think she ever stated that outright.
I'm also trying to figure out how the twins tie into things. They are in the family portrait as if they have an important role and they are in almost every episode, yet I can't figure out how they fit in. The house seems to be a thing with people who have red hair though.
I really think the house somehow brought them there. I don't think it is coincidental or just unlucky for the Harmons. I also wonder if the house attracted Hayden there somehow- another redhead. DH mentioned the possibility of Ben being the perfect son, but I'm not really sure at this point.I've been trying to consider the various possibilities.
I'm really hoping the writers have a plan for how everything will tie in later unlike the writers of Lost who seemed to be making things up as they went along and then (IMO) struggled to wrap it all up.
The numbers don't add up if Tate is Constance's son and the girls with Down syndrome are her daughters. There is only one additional child. Of course I'm assuming there are two daughters with Down syndrome based on the family portrait.

I don't know how I feel about Viv's pregnancy storyline. It's a little Breaking Dawn meets Rosemary's Baby. I do understand how pregnancy/babies are an important theme with the house though...
I think they are intentionally bringing in a lot of elements from other horror movies and real life murders. I'm not sure how I feel about the pregnancy element either though. And the pregnant rubberman weirds me out even more.
Another question: do you think the guy with the garden shears in the opening credits is somehow related to Alex with the scissor shadow puppets in the house tour online? The garden shears guy freaks me out.
Did you see that Eric Stonestreet (Cam from Modern Family) will be appearing in this Wednesday's episode? Such a departure from his regular role but he's an awesome actor so I'm sure he will be amazing.
