clicky poll: how many states have you visited?
My mom and uncles started a contest when they were younger to see who could go to all 50 states first (my uncle eventually won by secretly flying from California to Arkansas and back--he didn't tell his siblings he was going lest they try to beat him to it by hitting the states they'd missed!) My sisters and I decided a few years ago to try to do the same contest.
So I'm wondering how many states you have been to. If you did this contest in your family, would you be winning?

I'm at 25 but we always counted that you had to be outside an airport and have a meal :-) I think I'm a couple more if we're counting drive-throughs (went on a cross-country trip at 22)
I 'think' I'd beat most of my famiy but DH and his whole family have me beat by a long ways. They went on tons of road trips growing up.

I have 47. And it is all about road-tripping it. For this reason, I have never been to Michigan, Hawaii, and Alaska.
I've been to Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Missouri, Illinois, California, Colorado, Hawaii, and Virginia (I had to type them out to remember. I think that's all)
We plan to do a lot more traveling around the US when we move back. Hopefully I'll add to this list.
Yeah, I don't count lay-overs. It doesn't make sense to, IMO... I've been to O'Hare a bunch, but I've actually never been to Chicago (although, I have been to IL, just not Chicago... know it's not a "state" but still would like to get to that city).
I would be far from winning. My siblings all live in the US and have more of an opportunity to visit various states. Two have done the great western road trip and all of them have been to about ten states more than I have.
ETA: I've been to 25.
I'm impressed ktkl and mrsbini!
I would be winning against my siblings but my parents have been to way more states than me... The perks of working for an airline.
wow, some of you have been to almost all 50, very impressive!
I got up to 19 but can't remember for sure if I've stood in the dirt in Delaware, but I think I probably have. I've driven through it a bunch of times and I grew up like half an hour from Delaware, so I gave myself that one and voted based on 20. I'm also preeeetty sure I've been to NC but not 100% positive.
I went to NYC last year and it was the first time I set foot in the US...
