B&M Monday

Re: B&M Monday

  • I don't think there's an age limit on tattoos! For me, they're about marking an outward sign of something that's inwardly important, and you're certainly not past that stage at age 30. :)

Mack loves my tattoos, but has no interest in getting one himself. I think they're sexy, but it doesn't make sense for him to get one if he's not excited about it.

Angie, it cracks ME up that you were surprised!! Don't let the professional persona fool you... I'm a devoted wife & mommy and love me a good wedding, but I've got a little wild left in me still. :)

Julie - that is too cute - I want to do Santa pictures!  Do you use them for Christmas cards, or what?

Yes.  You have to order your cards through them (they have an awesome guy who comes in and looks exactly like Santa).  They're expensive but kind of worth it.  We got several calls and emails about last year's card so I'm excited for them this year.  The photogs and Santa were looking at the viewer in the back of the camera and they were having a great time.  Next year, I'm taking my dad (who has a nice little Santa beard himself).  They're already excited about our 2012 card.

  • Angie, my sister is already in planning mode and him putting a ring on it just means she can call vendors and actually schedule appointments.  (Chelsea you should be getting a call in a few weeks fyi Wink)  He is using the "pregnant" excuse as the reason not to invite us.  He invited his 2 closest friends and their wives.  They would go into planning mode with her also if that was the case.

He told DH that he didn't want us to have to spend the money to go since we have to pay for a baby soon and that me being pregnant would mean I wouldn't have any fun.  We have the money to go and and if I know it's a big night for them I'll take a nap and be all happy and just wear flats so my feet don't hurt but it's whatever.  Like I said I know it's stupid to be upset but it still hurts that he doesn't think it's important for us to be included but he has involved everyone else in the family.

  • Anna - Oh yes girl, I love it.  I just wish my bro lived closer to me.  Hopefully he can help us over the phone or something.  He's been a big help to me with computer stuff since I'm not so savy!

Chelsea - I totally agree, you're never too old.  I just think it's not my thing and I probably should have said that also!  I can only remember one time right out of high school when I wanted to get one and I talked myself out of it.  I think they're cool and especially cool when you express yourself through them.  :)

  • Sara - I think my getting my nose pierced was WAY less painful than a tattoo.  And my tattoo is the size of a nickel LOL.  I think it's because piercings are over with in a matter of seconds and tattoos are a constant, very annoying, pain...for me anyway.  I think it's different for everyone.  I love the elephant though...super cute.  I would like it with the ears laying down though.

B&M:  I got no sleep either because of this stupid time change.  I'm in a bitter funk and I'm tired of it.  Trying to snap out of it though...

  • I have never wanted a tattoo.  Good thing too because I'm a wuss.

Deepthi, that is too bad but if it's not for you, then it's not for you.  Better to find out sooner than later.

Dana, I am sorry, that is a tough one.

My B&M is that I am worn out.  I don't know if it was the time change or what but all I did after church was lie down and/or sleep yesterday and went to bed early and slept like the dead.  I do feel better today but fear by tonight I'll be exhausted again.

  • Thanks for the support girls.

Lacey - I thought the same thing! There has been one I wanted for years, just never went out and got it done.

BL - I think you should do it. You are getting it to advance what you already know. I was doing something almost brand new.

Leslie - Yea I saw today the drop date for getting my money back was Friday. I guess I'll just keep going this semester and hopefully pass with a decent grade. These two Cs are killing my morale. Sorry guys I'll stop being a downer today.

Julie - You need to post the picture up here. We want to see too!

I didn't know about doing Christmas cards since it was just the two of us. How many of you guys are doing it? Would you wait until you have kids?

  • Well I have suffered through laser hair removal which hurt pretty bad in certain areas!  I bet I can handle it :-). I am excited to do it now!

Deepthi-  we did a new years card last year and it had just us and our dogs on it :-)

As soon as they post one, I will.  He told me yesterday after he took one of them "That one's going on Facebook" (I'm friends with all of them).  It might be early next month though if I have to wait like last year.  We had the best time--the way Santa was looking at Bill after eating his cookie was priceless!

  • Julie - will you share the photog's name/contact info?  I may see if J would be up for something like this!

About the tats and piercings... I don't have a tat, and never really wanted one.  My dad always said he'd disown us if we got one.  My sis really wants one - she's thinking of having something in my grandmother's handwriting on her inner wrist, so she could cover it with a watch when she's around my dad.  I have had some things pierced, and every single one of them hurt ridiculously bad for days afterward - like, can't breath all the way for fear of moving too much.  My mom took me for my belly button when I was 16, and told me later that she thought I was going to pass out because I looked so awful.  I'm a total pansy though.

  • I also got my belly button done when I was 16 and I almost passed out. Up until this year, I got close to passing out whenever I had my blood taken. I am definitely much better now!

Butterfinger blondies and buffalo chicken dip.

The dip!  I looked on Pinterest for it last night but you didn't have it pinned.  And there are so many --  Ben told me to ask you, he didn't want me guessing!  ;)

  • I hiiiiighly recommend Daniel, at Aces Tattoo in Denton.  He's done 95% of all of mine, a ton of my friends smaller tattoos, and a few friends entire sleeves and chest pieces.  He's not heavy handed, but he does stay pretty booked up.  Check him out :)  He's the one who did my chest piece, although I haven't finished it yet.

  • This is long but stick with me:

I have had something brewing for awhile but didn't want to mention it to you girls until I knew for sure what my path would be. I made a decision this morning that will potentially completely change the course of my life. I have decided not to seek Secondary Education as my minor and instead pursue Women and Gender Studies. I am doing this because I was approached by two of my professors about graduate school. They have offered to aid in my acceptance into the combined grad school program and are guiding me in taking that path the will be the most likely to lead to my gaining a fellowship. If offered the fellowship, I must agree to finish the program in it's entirety.

This is a big deal because if it happens it means five more years of school, earning both my masters and doctoral degrees and a career (hopefully!) teaching on the university level rather than high school. DH and I have talked it over and he is very supportive of the plan. I am extremely nervous but also excited.

We will continue to try for a baby and have created a plan to make everything work if a baby comes before/during grad school but have decided we will likely not pursue the "big guns" of infertility treatment (IVF, etc.) until post-grad school if we are unable to conceive with less invasive methods.

I think that is pretty awesome!  I understand that thinking about that much more school may be scary, but it seems like a really good opportunity for you!

  • Stephie- the dip is:

2 oz packages cream cheese (I used 1/3 fat)

    1 cup ranch dressing

3/4- 1 cup franks red hot sauce

    2 cups cheddar

3-4 chicken breasts cooked and shredded

Combine all ingredients and bake for 30 min at 350 degrees

  • Wow Leslie, that is big news!  Congrats on making such big decisions and so glad to hear how supportive your husband is--that is wonderful.

    ETA:  Mmmm, thanks BL!

  • Yay Leslie that sound so awesome and thats wonderful that you have all the necessary plans in place already.  Congrats!

  • Leslie - that is so exciting!  I am seriously giddy for you right now!!!
  • We had them done at Blu Door in Southlake.  I used them for the past two proms for photo booths and they give me a discount on those.  We used them last year for Christmas and again this year.  They have a great set up this year but they may be fully booked for their Santa sessions.  We paid $99 for the time for the pictures and a small number of cards.  They even have ornament cards this year!!!!!

  • Leslie, that is fantastic! When I started grad school, my plan was to go that route, but it seemed like all my professors had two jobs: their research and their teaching. It just wasn't for me, that's why I ended up with the MLIS instead of the PhD. However, it is an amazing job with an amazing potential to impact young minds, and graduate school alone is such a great experience in so many ways. I'm so excited for you, I have to admit there are times I wish I could be back in that learning place!

Hi! I saw your post on the GTG thread. Tell us about yourself...

ETA: I also replied to you in that thread. :)

My name is Jennifer! :D My husband is a total computer/gaming nerd.

We just got married 09/10/11 at our home church in Carrollton, Tx.. it was a green wedding!  Honeymooned in Portland, Oregon at the Nines, because It was an all green honeymoon too! :)

We live in Coppell Tx.. and both work right off of DFW airport.   I'm so bad at writing about myself!   So I'm stealing most of this from my little bio thing..

    Interesting things about me:

+married to a man who pulled me into the front center of a City&Colour show, just to be the only couple slow dancing to one of our favorite songs

+graduated from the University of North Texas with a BAAS in Public Affairs and Community Service

+type 1 diabetic since I was 5 years old, on a Minimed insulin pump and CGM (continuous glucose monitor), so someday I'll be a super healthy pregnant diabetic

    +skydived 20 times

+lover of artistic tattoos, I've got 6-10 depending on how you count them

+semi-artistic, dabbling in acrylic, watercolors, and pastels/charcoals

    +very imaginative

+a wild dreamer.. so I turn my dreams at night into short stories.. one of which was published in a lit mag

    +enjoys sewing clothing and accessories

I have to admit the PhD portion scares/excites me! Two of my professors approached me (from different disciplines...they were talking about me over lunch and decided to come to me together...weird huh?) about seeking grad school. The program is a five year combined program which leads to both the Masters and the PhD. There will be fellowships offered but the catch is that you have to make a committment to finish the program entirely, so you must seek both degrees.

I too am a school lover, but NEVER even let myself imagine a PhD. I thought maybe a Masters later after I taugh for awhile but not a PhD. I was floored they even approached me but wasn't sure if it was realistic for us. It was actually DH who convinced me to go for it. He said that he feels like I can't pass this up if the professors are willing to help me get a fellowship. I am so thankful for that.

Welcome! My husband is also a computer/gaming nerd. I love the date of your wedding! How have you enjoyed married life? My husband I were married on 6/13/09. I've never had the guts to skydive, but you've done it 20 times? Thats amazing!!  So inspiring that you're environmentally friendly! I wouldnt know where to start! The ladies on here are very nice, and have a lot of advice to offer, so dont be afraid to jump in a convo! :)

The fact that they came to you is huge, having those kind of mentors is so important. It is a huge commitment, I don't know if I would have had the guts to go for the master's if I'd had to commit to the PhD as well! But your DH is right, you can't turn down that kind of guidance.
