What is your income?

Re: What is your income?

  • LOVING the COL calculator! Our income would translate to $200K in Boston. Pittsburgh has an 84 index, so it is slightly cheaper than WI.

We are very lucky with the jobs we have. We live comfortably and can afford to buy ourselves nice things, even though we don't do it often.

Sadly, we pay a half-mortgage each month on student loans and a second mortgage each month on Day Care. I wish DH made more so I could SAH.

  • We make good money, over $150k combined but I don't feel like it translates much at all.  We have a $2500 mortgage and student loans.  It totally sucks that housing is so expensive around here, but I'm glad we got our house when it was priced low.  Before we found out I was pregnant, we were paying both of our parents $400 each.  So we definitely don't feel like we have a lot of money.  Compared to other people in our area and especially our field, we make the average salary.

I've wanted to move back to Atlanta and with our current salary that would be so awesome.

  • Last year we made close to 80k combined, but this year it will be closer to 50-60k because of changes at his work and less overtime. We also live in a pretty LCOL area and only paid 75k for our house. That's one of the main reason we are staying here and not moving to a warmer state.

  • DH and I are obviously in the minority here we make 50k combined, have a mortgage (we have renters in the upstairs and that helps), student loans and day care.  We make it work the best we can and with my craftiness and his cheapness we do ok.  I just dream of the day we dont have to worry about money and calculate down to the last penny.

    High five! $50k'ers FTW!

Also...when did Alex become 9 months old? smh. too fast, too fast.

  • We make a touch over 100k a year combined but it still feels like we don't have a plethora of extra money laying around. We live comfortably but I wouldn't say excessively. We have probably the smallest and cheapest house in our suburb. Our 3br, 1.5 bath cost about $165 but the taxes here are outrageous. We pay 6k a year in school and property taxes. We could afford a higher mortgage but a $400k house here's taxes are like $25k a year. That's insane!! The average house in our area is about $250,000 and I'm pretty sure the average household income is about $150k. We aren't too far off but we're young still. Kev should start making more money now that their company is coming out of the recession it seems. Maybe this year he'll get a Christmas bonus!
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

*high five!*. I have no idea where the time has gone.  We realized if we want to stick to our plan it is time to start on number two but when we look at the finances and the daycare costs it just isnt going to happen right now.  Especially since Joel would like me to be a SAHM when baby two arrives.  It would be so nice.
