What are you getting your DH and kid(s) for the holidays?

Re: What are you getting your DH and kid(s) for the holidays?

  • No idea what I'm getting DH. We haven't even chosen our limit yet. I guess we need to figure it out before he goes out of town next weekend because that will be my prime time to shop for him. I'll either get him some sort of bike accessory, or maybe some beer brewing supplies since that's something he wants to start doing.

The dog will probably get a new Kong bone.

Our niece (age 4) is getting some pipsqueak markers (shorter Crayola markers that are good for learning to write, according to her teacher) in a homemade case and a copy of the children's book our friend just released. (We're not really doing gifts on my side of the family, and this is my sister's DD).

Our nephew (age 1) is also getting our friend's book, and a camelback steel water bottle with a sippy-cup style lid.

  • DH is getting a composter.  (see earlier post about him buying three things lately that I was planning on getting him for Christmas.  Next year there will be a moratorium).

The advent calendar is stuffed with mini reeses cups, mini Hershey's bars and Mr. Goodbars, as well as Disney princess stickers.  I bought boy friendly stickers, but then decided that 1 year old DS won't notice this year if the Advent calendar doesn't have stickers for him.

DD #1 will get Rio on DVD, a bath doll (we've have some before, but they mold and get gross, so we replace frequently), a book about what God is around the world, and her big gift is the Fisher Price Kid Tough digital camera.  My mom got her a Christmas dress which I think is part of her gift.

DD #2 will get Lion King on DVD, a bath doll and ditto the Christmas dress.  Her big gift will be a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe.  We have one we got from a neighbor for free, and the girls constantly argue over who gets to drive.

DS will probably get very little this year, as he is only 1 yr old.  My mom got him a cute little Christmas outfit.

The biggest gift will be when DH sets up a bunch of shelving cubes I bought recently to help get the "craft area" in our basement organized.  We're going to put it together Christmas Eve (I bought four cubes 50% off at Michael's - with shelves and drawers, plus a carousel thingy that you put markers and scissors in) and act like Santa came and magically straightened up the area.  I also got a bunch of new markers and paper to start to stock it.

I plan to get each kid an ornament, but haven't done that yet.

  • husband- some book about biking, some shirt to be used for winter biking, sweater & shirt from ll bean, nice rum & then stocking stuffers: go the f*ck to sleep book, tea, uk biking magazine, some l'occitaine hand cream (his hands get hella dry) and something else I'm forgetting...

sprout- fake baby keys that look like real keys (he's obsessed with keys), more board books, and a strider bike (which he probably won't be big enough to use unitl spring).  His stocking will have forks & spoons b/c he's getting into feeding himself, a place mat, baby junk food (aka, puffs) and a stuffed smurf doll.

  • "Even if"? I KNOW they are boring. Meh.

Son - a new down comforter which I am holding on to so he has something to open. Will buy comforter cover, too, if I can find one I think he'll like that doesn't cost a bazillion dollars. (Why are those things over $100 -- it's just two sheets sewn together?) He already got and is wearing two pairs of dress pants, a wool hat, belt, and 6-7 pairs of socks.  And since I have an annoying habit of still buying my adult kids underwear for Christmas every year, his CK boxer briefs will be in his stocking (see also, damn those are expensive!)

Daughter - already has and is wearing 1/2 of new coat, a dress, skirt, and something else we got when shopping a few weeks ago. In her stocking, a few pairs of the Smart Wool socks she loves, and still need to buy her Gap underwear of choice (have coupon -- yay!). Also got a 40% off thing for BR, so will get her a sweater there. Also a few items from Sephora she sent me links to, and the new Mandy Kaling book for her stocking. She just got a second (!) job (my little overachiever) at Anthropologie (in addition to 5-6 shifts a week at Clyde's), so I can't add a GC there as my go-to gift to tell her dad. He's on his own.

John - the meh part of the holiday. Doesn't need a thing. A treadmill for the two of us is being delivered today (in the next two hours if Sears isn't lying), and the basement and first floors are being painted (next week), but those are more for me than him/us, I know. (he doesn't care, I care immensely.) We're seeing Last Train Home at Iota on 12/17, so that's kind of a "for us" gift. I've pretty much got nothing to surprise him with. I did get him Smart Wool socks, too, and candy for his stocking. Woo to the hoo.

we don't do gifts for the family anymore (siblings, nieces/nephews, etc.) but we do buy the kids GCs and this year, I found state-shaped cutting boards so I got a CA and an NJ for my sisters and will send those with our traditional exchanging of the one pound bags of Twizzlers.

And everyone gets an ornament every year, and this year they are good luck charms from temples in Japan that I picked up in October.

I think I need to get a little more in the spirit. Bc of the painting, I haven't been able to put up my tree yet (for the past 20 years, it's gone up the day after Tgiving) and that's bringing me down a little. I am hoping to set everything up next Sunday, after my Hell Week at work, and the cookie GTG. And I have the week before Christmas off so I can wander through the malls during the day and perhaps get inspired....
