My brothers are 16 months apart.  FI and his brother are pretty close together like that too. I can't imagine having an 8mo and a preemie.  That would be so much!

ETA holy crap I don't know how to talk today.  Parents =/= brothers

I was just going to mention that lol

  • So H just took the Strengths Quest thing and his #1 is Harmony.... That's my very last ;)

Also, I'm glad you said so Mara and Sarah. It took us about half an hour to get our damn tree up on the base too.

  • We always have trouble putting our tree up as well. Last year Fi and his two friends got it in the stand straight as they could then we left to target and when I got home it fell. It takes us about an hour to get it set up. It also sucks because we have to take it up an elevator.
  • I thought you are not supposed to have sex for at least 6 weeks after giving birth to let your vag heal.

I feel bad for that womans vagina.  I would have told H to back the eff up.

  • Haha, I've never heard of 'Irish twins', even though my dad's family is Irish and has 4 kids, 9 months apart each.

Pirate, I am the opposite, H is usually a scrooge and doesn't want a tree, but this year he said yes! I'm cleaning and rearranging the house today, he gets off at three, and I cannot wait to buy and decorate this bad boy.

We'll see how the cat is though, I wanted a small table top, but H is insisting on a big one, and that "she needs to learn" how to be around a big tree. Oh boy, we'll see.

  • Irish twins are 11 months apart.  Basically right after the 6 weeks is up.

My coworoker was telling me the other night about how some people he knew had a baby, and then had sex the day they got home from the hospital and got pregnant from that.

Is it even possible to ovulate that quickly after giving birth?

Its unlikely but anything is possible when your hormones go haywire like that. Most people wait 4-6  weeks after a vaginal birth, but those with c-sections sometimes don't wait that long.  There are some on my month board that still haven't had sex again.. for some of them its been almost a year. I amy have no sex drive to speak of, but that's way too damned long.

  • Reddy, Whisky is surprisingly good with our tree. He likes to explore it (sniffing the tree or ornaments, sleeping on the presents) but for the most part he just sticks to the couch or bed. Although he does like sleeping under the tree when it's on. And he hides back there when it's time for medicine since he knows it's hard to get him out.

Holy crap, sarah, no sex for a year for some of them? I'm not the most sexual person ever but yeah, even a month would be too long for us (save for a medical condition that prevented sex, of course)

  • imageSarahPLiz:
So as of this morning, there are like 6 people on my Bump month board that are pregnant again. We all have 3-4 month olds. Seriously, it makes me scared to have sex at all.

Bless them.  I used to want kids close in age because my siblings were 14 months apart and I was jealous of how close they were.  Then I read that if the 2nd child is born within 12 months of the first child, s/he is three times more likely to have autism.  Then I gave birth and was all "helllll no."  Babies are a lot of work, yo.

Re: sex, I was on pelvic rest the last 9 weeks of my pregnancy so I was pretty much ready to go at 3 weeks post-partem.  I waited the requisite 6 weeks though.  I got a Mirena put in last week and it *** sucks.  I haven't stopped bleeding since Friday.  But I won't get pregnant!  Yay!  /sarcasm

  • I'd always heard Irish twins is if they are born within 12 months.  Other than that I am unable to contribute to the baby talk.

There is no snow, but we have a nice layer of icy frost on the roads, here.  I want snow damnit.

Also, anyone heard of SniqueAway?  Well there is a hotel (I always thought it was a housing development) that is near my city on there.  Listed as the location is says the place is in my city, but it really isn't.  It is like 10 miles away, in the middle of no where.

  • Hey everyone!

My brother and I are a little over 2 years apart. I think that's what I'll shoot for. Not too close or too far in age from each other.

  • When I was growing up I always wanted a brother who was about 2 years older than I am.  That is a little hard to change after the fact though. =P

No, what is it? It sounds kind of shady.

  • Has anyone had a good experience with a Mirena?  I want one, but not if it's going to be a biitch to deal with.

  • Pirate - it has awesome deals on hotels every day.  I read about it in Cosmo a while back.  It is usually really nice hotels on about a 30-60% lower than normal rate.  They have hotels all over the country.  I don't normally fly by the seat of my pants that much, but in case I ever want to, I have the option.

I always wanted an older brother too! Y'know to protect me and stuff. lol Luckily my brother is bigger than me so he can still do that part.

I've heard of it, but never used it. It sounds similar to Voyage Prive, which I haven't used either, but I get the emails for it. If you ever use it, let me know if you like the buying/booking process. I hate paying full price for anything travel-related.

I had it in at one point of my life and I hated it.  My cramps were so bad for even 6 months after the fact.  They ended up taking it out.  The not having to remembre my pill every day was awesome.. but I didn't really like the whole experience. I do know some people that liked it.  I don't think there's a magical formula for it working or not. Although I think a lot has to do if you've had kids or not.

  • I'll definitely do that Mara.  I really want to book on it.  I always keep a look out at the emails to see if they have any of the cities that I am planning trips to.  My trips and their sales have yet to coincide.

I had the absolute worst experience possible, so you might not want my input on it. ;)

Summary: Had the IUD inserted. According to doctor, "worst one she's ever done."

Felt like I was dying for 5 months. Slept with my H about 3 times in 5 months; bled just about every other day.  Gained 17 pounds.

Had it removed, and sobbed from pain for the next two days.

  • Good lord, Steph.  That just sounds lovely.  Well so far my mom is the only person I know who has had a good experience with it.  This does not make me optimistic.

  • I've never had kids and have had Mirena for about 9 months now and I love it.  It's been great for me.  I had some spotting and cramping for the first couple months but I completely forget that it's there now.

Hormones are such a tricky thing to get right.  Unfortunately, it seems like it's trial and error with finding what works well with your body.

  • My sister has had a plain  IUD for many many years, with no issues. She hasn't had a child, either. She can't use Mirena because of the hormones (they give her high cholesterol too). She swears by her IUD.

FWIW, I had a really bad experience with the NuvaRing, too. So I think my body just doesn't like the constant hormones.

  • I just got a plain IUD, like Sarah's sister.  The first few days was a little rough (which was also my first period.) But I am at nearing then end of my first month off of BS pills and I feel better already. I am just done with hormones.
  • Hmmm, I guess I'll need to look into the difference between a regular IUD and a Mirena.

  • The permanent BC options kind of scare me a bit.

On the baby topic, my nephews are almost exactly a year apart. One was born on the 19th of December and one on the 21st. The second one was an oops but I am with you guys why would you even be having sex at that point.

Ugh.  That's what I was afraid of.

I almost passed out from the pain of having it inserted.  I gave birth drug-free, for point of reference.
