Juli, therapy dogs are used in counseling too.  I did some research on how they [mostly dogs and horses] are being used used for all kinds of treatment.  Animals making people well is awesomeness.

I agree, and I'm glad to hear they are used in counseling too!  I still have a lot to learn about the program and how it all works! :-)

Me too.  In the future, it might be "bring your dog to work day" for me once a week. Big Smile

  • GRSP- I'm so sorry about your friend. Hugs to you.

Kasa. Sorry about your Grandma. I hope she gets better soon

Mira- GR seems like a good place. I have good feelings about it!

Yay Toby!. That sounds very cool. I know you're very proud of your pooch.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, Spring time would probably be better to meet in person. We can try then:-)

We just found out, the fight against cancer for our family's friend is over.  I'll miss his smile and laugh at Jim's work events so much.  But I'm glad his body doesn't have to fight anymore.

    So sorry.  ((hugs))

  • Hey, anyone want to play dream analyst?

I've had several dreams lately where I'm in an airport and stressing out because I'm trying not to miss my flight.  Either I'm running through the airport, or I'm running late arriving at the airport, or something like that.  I'm always very anxious in the dream.

What does it mean?  I do not have any trips coming up.  And I've never had a traumatizing experience with air travel in the past.

To dream that you miss your connection flight indicates that you are feeling helpless and trapped by some situation. You feel that you are being held back, either physically or mentally. Alternatively, the dream may also suggest that you are feeling disconnected in some aspect of your life - work, relationship or home life.

To experience anxiety in your dream is a reflection of what you may be feeling during your waking life. You may have repressed thoughts,  unexpressed emotions, resentment, or hostility that are triggering your anxiety dream. This dream also suggests that you are taking on too many responsibilities.

I'd guess you're stressed/anxious in real life and that's carrying over.  I think the "late for a flight dream" is similar to other dreams where you're late for an exam, for example.  Perhaps you have a lot on your plate right now you're trying to get done and it's causing you some stress.

I am trying my damnest to stay off google right now for 2 reasons.  1. baby J has had blood tinged spit up.  We have an appt with the Dr in and hr.  And I know Dr Google will do nothing to calm my fears.  And 2. b/c my gift from Scott arrived and it has the name of the company on the package.

Yeah, get off Google.  It could be something as simple as the dry weather making his sinuses dry bleed a little, and drain into stomach.  Or, um... are your parts cracked at all from feeding?

The package thing is funny.  Don't look.  It might be a ruse. ;)

Um. . . I would know if I was cracked right?  We've been dealing with some uncomfortableness, due to biting with 2 new sharp little teeth.

Just got back from the docs and she never even asked about my parts.  Hm.  She thinks it *could* due to his esophagus being raw from his reflux.  And wants him on another reflux med.  I guess he shouldn't be spitting so much so often when already on meds.

  • Busy morning for me. Just getting caught up with you all. I had a Dr appt this AM to renew my BC Rx. Fun times, fun times. I have grocery shopping today and am mostly down with meal plan.

Juli - Can I volunteer for Toby. I feel I would benefit from Toby as a Therapy Dog. =)

Kasa - Sorry about Gma's spinal set back.

GRSP - T&P towards you and your friends family.

BnG - Can't wait for spring. I think its been a while since a lot of us meet up for a GTG

Mira - Poor J. Here hoping that it is something simple and easy to deal with.

Wop - Magician.... for adults... Um yeah I got nothing on that. I remember when the FOP had Christmas parties and I went with my Dad. McGruff the Crime dog always showed up and that was cool but I was also 8.

Yeah, you'd know.  I wasn't sure if you thought of that or not.  Also, I was hoping to give you something minor to consider to counter the Google search doom. ;)  Oh, teeth and breastfeeding.  It gets better, I promise.  He'll shift the latch a bit, and then much better.  Raw esophagus sounds painful.  Poor buddy.

Juli, Congrats to Toby ( and you!) Who are you getting certified through?  Gracie is certified through TDI.  I would love to re up her certs and due some volunteer work over here.

WMTD - I'm not sure it that has reciprocity with TDI too, but I'm sure the tests are pretty similar.  How has your experience been w/Gracie?

The only volunteering I really did was up north, G and I would drive up to a "Old persons home" (is there a nice term then that?).  I knew some fellow volunteers up there.  I didn't know any fellow therapy dogs/handlers in the GR area and was too shy to venture out on my own. Embarrassed

With that said I don't think Gracie really has the proper temperament for therapy work.  She has become more high strung as she ages (she use to be mellow) So it takes a lot of work for me to anticipate what is going on so I can have her prepared.

I always wanted to do volunteer work at Lacks, as it is more mellow atmosphere there and I think she would have done really well there.

  • Dropping in for a quick hi!  I feel out of the loop.

My little boy is finally getting better.  Saturday was hell, and yesterday he was grumpy, but at least he's not sick anymore!  Party!!!  6 days is the longest illness I've had to contend with (for him), and to be honest I don't think I would have survived another day.  Wink

I've got most of my Christmas shopping done.

Kasa, I hope they heal your grandma up quickly!

Juli, that is awesome about Toby!

Well, that's depressing.  Perhaps I need the calming services of Toby or Gracie too!

  • Mira, I hope J feels better very soon!

Molly, glad to hear that T is on the mend!

  • Kasa - Hope they find a solution quickly for your grandma. How awful.

GRsp - Sorry to hear of your friend's passing.

    JuliD - Congrats to Toby!!

I know there is a lot that I missed, but hello to everyone else and I hope you all had good weekends.

Henry and I went to my dad's family Christmas party on Saturday. There was a Santa there and he read a story to all the kids. Henry just sat on my lap, wringing his hands. When it was Henry's turn to visit with him, he wouldn't sit on Santa's lap. No surprise there, but he did give Santa high fives with my help, which made Henry laugh. When Mike gets back we'll attempt to visit Santa somewhere and see how it goes.

Interesting, thank you for sharing!  Kind of odd that Gracie is getting more high strung as she gets older - I would have thought she'd have mellowed more.  But she's had a lot going on this past year too so I can see that impacting her.

If you move back to GR someday, you'll know 1 dog trainer here in case you want to get back into it (assuming we pass of course). :-)

  • I'm glad to read that T is doing better, Mol.  Prolonged sickness is so tough.

We store our Christmas decorations in the attic.  I unpacked our advent wreath, and the candles that go with it, to find that the summer heat had warped the candles.  Now we have very phallic looking advent candles.

  • Hmmm.... I just found out that my brother is bringing his new girlfriend home for Christmas.  Apparently, they really are connected at the hip like I had previously suspected.

Now we should get her a gift.  Except I still don't know much about her, except that she's scholarly.  I think perhaps she needs a Michigan Awesome t-shirt.  Smile

    Tee hee.

  • My mom gave me the biggest guilt trip of all time re: the issues I have with my sister.  (Seriously, it was ridic.)

So, in order to please my mother, I called my sister up and invited her out to lunch to hash out our issues.

Our lunch date was yesterday.  I think it went well.  I hope we can have a healthy relationship.  I think I am going to try to keep my distance, but still be available, open and friendly to her in case she needs me.

Some progress, she is enrolled in school for the winter semester -full time-, and she has an appointment with DHS and her case worker to see if she qualifies for housing assistance so she can get her own place, alone, for her and her daughter, away from her toxic friends.

Hopefully she is finally getting on the right track.

  • Exam 2 of 4 is done!!!  This puts me at the halfway mark for exams.  I am starting to see the light.  Just one more week and two more exams to go...

Eating some lunch, then heading to the gym and then on to start prepping for Thursday's exam.

  • imageBnGCookies820:

Back on the other side of the state. Sad about it. It's going to be a long winter.

I had a bit of a rough goodbye yesterday too.  Normally in the semester I've left really early (4:30 a.m.) on Monday mornings to leave.  Having a Monday final meant leaving on Sunday and it was much harder.  In the winter I'll probably leaving more on Sundays as well because of weather.

I also had a much harder time with the separation early in the semester when it was all new.

The good news is that it's for a limited amount of time and it will be over before you know it.

That definitely sounds promising.  It can be really hard to find a balance sometimes when you have friends/family making poor life choices but still desiring to keep the relationship.  I hope things are on the right track for her and your relationship.

  • imageDesmond&MollyJones:

My mom gave me the biggest guilt trip of all time re: the issues I have with my sister.  (Seriously, it was ridic.)

My housemate's mom did this to her with her sister.  I obviously don't know all of the details of your situation, but I'm annoyed for you that your mom did this.  Why is it on your shoulders when you're annoyed that your sister is acting immaturely?

It sounds like your lunch went well and I hope you're on the way to a happier relationship, but really, you don't need to feel guilty if the relationship doesn't turn out you (or your mom) wishes it would be.

  • Kasa, I'm sorry about your gma's complication.

Also, re: the anxiety dream.  Sometimes knowing why I'm having a certain dream often helps.  I think once you're aware of what's causing the subconscious tension, it's easier to work through some sort of solution in your waking life and the dream stops.

  • GRSP, I'm sorry about your friend.  Even though you did a lot of grieving already, I'm sure it's still rough for the actual finality.

    Thinking of you.

Thanks, DP.  The family has been very private about it, and so we're not really supposed to know yet.  That adds weirdness to saddness.

Wahoo!  on 1/2 done w/ finals for you!  May the other 2 go smoothly.

That distance thing... sigh.  It's so hard.  I'm sorry for anyone who is doing it now.

Des and Mol, I'm so glad you and your sister reconnected.  It's not fair that your mom laid a guilt trip on you.  On the other hand, your mom knows you're a positive force in her life.  Here's hoping she gets her act together.
