Re: TGIF
Hope that you feel better. I got the same thing going on but the sore throat goes away after a few hours for me.
I also like older homes. Heck my house was built in '62! We've put a lot of work into it though too. Refinished floors, had to rip out and replace entire kitchen floor because of rot (down to the joists (sp?)), ripped out/replaced drywall in our bedroom due to sagging drywall, new roof, new waterheater, gutted the entire bathroom, ripped off paneling and wallpaper in the dining room, and lots of paint. We still need to do the kitchen, but should just be backsplash, counters, paint, and new appliances. The cabinets are newer. After the kitchen is done, I will be so happy. My house will be done! Too bad that's years out.
Yeah, it's quite possible that we may need to build in order to get something that meets everything on our lengthy list of qualifications for our next home.
Kasa and Wop- I think we are looking for a good mix of all of the above. We want to have a family, so safety and schools are very important. Good sturdy homes are important too, as we plan to make it our forever home or at least the raise the kids in home.
I think we could deal with being away from the highway- but then I'm brand new to West MI so I have no idea if I'm just talking crazy.
Thanks. You too! I hope we all get back to feeling 100% very soon.
I live in the middle of suburbia, but only 2 miles from the highway. 131 and M6. A lot of nice neighbor hoods are close to, but not too close, to the highway. Jenison and Hudsonville are great suggestions. My aunt lives in an amazing neighborhood on the Grandville/Jenison border mere minutes from the highway.
You might want to consider the Forest Hills/Cascade/Knapp area in addition to Wop's suggestions. I think that will probably be our focus when we're ready for a new home. (Although, my husband is randomly on a Rockford kick right now...)
Well the verdict is in - we have to work on Monday. Blah.
Thanks for the suggestions. I love looking at all the homes for sale. B has a co-worker who's all about Rockford. Must be a nice place.
I've heard really mixed things about Rockford. It is a cute town, good schools, and reasonable home prices. I understand Rockford has it's own "culture" though, and I'm not certain that I'd like living there.
I've heard this too. I also wouldn't enjoy a 30 min drive to GR every morning in the winter. No thank you.
I wouldnt live in Rockford - they are cliquish
Wendy. you sound sad about the suburbs. The burbs are where it's at! Living downtown sounds nice but I think it would get on my nerves after a while. We were trying to look at the lofts downtown, but the office wasn't open. It could have been an interesting experience.
I like it quiet though. Living close enough to the action that I can get to it when the spirit moves me is good enough for me! Yes please.
Same here. just balanced check book if that tells you anything.
There is a daycare costs post on MM today. Everytime this post comes up I am reminded to be thankful of where I live.
I can't imagine spending $1,000-$2,000/month for daycare. We probably wouldn't be able to afford to have any at those costs.
I play Words with Friends, a lot.
I always think it's pretty funny when people cheat. How silly.
I'm playing a girl right now that always cheats, and it's really obvious. I kinda feel bad that she feels the need to cheat!
I'm out of here.
Happy (early) new year, everyone!
YAY! That's awesome!
Congrats!!!
wohoo. Whatcha going to get?
No idea. Maybe put it towards a Keurig for my desk.
That would be a nice treat.
I would want to visit you desk.
I was up really late last night finishing a book. I couldn't put it down. It was called "Sarah's Key".
I live inside GR city limits. I do not recommend the public school system here. The Walker area is nice and just over the board in Ottawa county is Tallmadge Twshp. which is where my parents are. It's country living but with in 15-20min to downtown GR.
D&M: Wow cheap house. I have to agree that if I bought it I would tear it down and completely rebuild new on it. DH & I are talking about doing that with the next house we get. Build it from scratch.
Speaking of houses. I think mine is going up for sheriff sale in Feb. 2012. Hopefully it doesn't sell and we can stay here longer.
I've lived in the country, in a new subdivision, on the edge of the hood, and in the suburbs during my lifetime. I think if I were farther out in the country and able to have a garden I'd like it better. Right now I do what I can with our too shady yard. I'd rather be way in the country or "in town." I didn't mind living near the hood at all, other than every time there was a shooting in the news my parents called asking if it was near me LOL.
