Re: Tuesday Afternoon Chatter

  • I found a gray hair, well my hair dresser/bf did on Friday.

  • Cute pup, LDY.

I checked the moderator forum.  No word about what's going on with IT.  :

  • I'd be jealous of us too. =).  I'm doing the full, LDY is doing the half.

    Nicki, lame town.

I have several gray hairs already.  Like noticeably.  I have to dye my hair already for gray coverage.

  • are people still here? i love ldy's new gator doggie.

i'm tired. I just spent all afternoon packing like 80 different bags. wedding day pack, the next two days pack (i'm staying with my parents after tonight), and HM luggage. Phew.

    image
  • It was exciting, but saddening all at once.

Also, why are we at the April 2006 boards? Who got hitched then? I turned 21 April 2006, it was a poostorm of a month, thats for sure!

  • Nicki - Adamar overtook it when TK was being wonky last time.  SB was on Jan. 06 board. **This is irrelevant information but for some reason I typed it.**

MuSu!  You are so close.  Good job packing =)  That sounds like a lot and that it took awhile.

    image
  • MuSu, YAYYYY! SO CLOSE! I'm home from work and kinda bored. I'm here!
    image
  • It was a lot, since I packed J's HM stuff too. We decided to pack 2 carry-on size suitcases instead of paying the baggage fee. So we bought some of those vacuum seal bags and voila! I was amazed at how they worked.
    image
  • Also? We have snow on the ground. :) I have no idea if it will last til Friday because temps are supposed to be in the upper 30s thru the mid 40s into Friday... but we will see.
    image
  • Yay snow! I wish we had snow. When do you start classes again MuSu? I start Jan. 9.
    image
  • Its only about 2 inches, but I will take what I can get! :)

Erin -- I start again on Jan 17th. We get back from the HM on the 15th so basically I will get home, buy my books and start school again, haha.

  • Daamn you. I am so so dreading going back. You are lucky that you have a while yet before you go back. When do you get out for summer?
    image
  • That is exciting about the minimal snow.

I always wonder how people will do the vacuum bags for the trip home.  Don't you need a vacuum to get the air out?

    image
  • Our finals are usually the first two weeks or so of May, I think. I don't have my finals schedule for next semester so I don't know when I'll be done for sure. Many of my finals will likely be self-scheduled so I can kind of choose when I want to be done.

Anna was saying that she usually rolls her clothes when re-packing which helps with space. Otherwise I have no shame in asking the front desk at the hotel to borrow a housekeeping vacuum. Lol.

  • That's when we're out for summer too. Gosh, your Christmas vacation is so much longer than mine. Lucky girl!
    image
  • I do the rolling when I pack.  It works.

Oh man I hate to be debbie downer/bearer of bad news.. but I've had friends who TSA told to rip those open while traveling (for security purposes, so they could check the contents), which leaves you completely screwed unless you brought more with you.  I'd double check with TSA's current rules on those bags.

  • I have like zero packing experience.

  • Erin I think it is interesting how different schools go back at such different times. I know a lot of people who go back this week, whereas a lot of schools around here go back after MLK day.
    image
  • Chels-- Oh really? Weird. I only bought them since I read a lot of people on TK use them when traveling ... hmm..
    image
  • Now you are making me really sad. 16 & Pregnant just made me feel a little better. One of the girls had to do a math problem and it was 2000/4. She answered 1500. Hehe.
    image
  • I don't think its fair that Chrissy gets to meet X before me.

This was also a few years ago. The rulse may have changed?  Idk.  I would just hate to see you get to the airport and be stuck with too much stuff if they make you rip them open.  You can probably even find it on TSA's website.

ETA: Are these the ones that require a vacuum or the ones that roll? If they're the ones that roll the air out, you should be okay cuz you can just repack them.

  • Sorry Rosie. :(  Maybe you could come down too!
    image
  • I vacuum bagged it on my trips back and forth to Germany.

Otherwise I roll complete outfits-saves time on vacation when its already set for you. I learned that trick from American Girl Magazine. Yeah, I was into girlie things as a child.

  • I'm reading around some TSA type articles and forums and it sounds like most people who got their bags opened either checked their bags or said they do it if there is something suspicious? I mean, the bags are clear so it is fairly obvious what is inside. All we have in them are clothes. I'd be pissed as hell if they opened them. My clothes will NOT fit otherwise, lol.
    image
  • I'm just gonna risk it at this point. There is really nothing of suspicious nature in the bags since the bags only have clothes rolled up in them. And if there was something metal or something hidden in the clothes(which there is not), the xray machine would see it anyway.

  • Are you super stressing out, or have you reached that calm and happy point?
