I thought Kristen said she got hit twice this weekend and was a little horrified.

I thought so too!  I started to get all mad at Mike, because it happened right in front of him, and he was just amused!

You have to watch a dog ALL THE TIME? Well thank god I'll never take on that responsibility. I wouldn't have kept him either so send me to hell.

I don't know what it's like to have a dog but I certainly don't watch my kid all the time he's in my house either. He might get out too.

Getting out once every few months doesn't seem like a huge deal to me, but then again if someone's gross dog bit me or something I'd be suing so I guess I then can see both sides in a way.

You don't have to watch a dog all the time, but you do have to watch them if they're out in your yard, and you know they like to escape.

You'd be suing if the dog bit you, you'd be pissed if he took a dump in your yard, and you'd be pissed (and probably crazy guilty) if you were the unlucky driver who killed him when he ran into the road.

Is this really sanctimonious dog-mommy bullshit?  It seems like common sense to me.

  • Omg, is it fair to say you're beating a dead horse? Or will that only elicit more unsolicited advice about the proper treatment of horses?

Honestly, as someone that isn't into dogs at all, it does sound like sanctimonious dog-mommy bullshit. It sounds kind of annoying beyond that. If I talked about my kid and parenting the way you're talking about dogs, it would be annoying and called sanctimonious mommy bullshit I think. But, I'm not into dogs nor do I think about how their fenced or not. Ever. It was more I read it, rolled my eyes, typed my sarcastic response and left.

Your tone makes me roll my eyes pretty hard. I thought I had stumbled on to the pets board for a minute.

  • Boxer, honestly I don't know what you want to gain from all this incessant nagging. You have an opinion, and right or wrong, it isn't going to make me pull out my wallet and drop 3k on a privacy fence. So what do you need here?? You win!! You're an amazing dog owner and I will never live up to your standards. And nothing will EVER GO WRONG in your household because you have COMPLETE CONTROL of every situation! Feel better?

Wait....what?? How the hell did this become a "you must be amazing and supervise your dog 100% of the time and have COMPLETE CONTROL!" situation?

Seems to be a pretty obvious "hey, you don't seem to have a very reliable way of keeping your dog contained, he keeps getting out" situation. This is now a radical pets board whacko point of view? If so, then the whackos have finally found some common ground with the "meh, don't really care for dogs" contingent, who surely wouldn't be a fan of a neighbor whose dog repeatedly gets out and roams/pees/poops. Right?

Can the dog not be inside without being watched all the time? Crate? Utility room? All of these cost much less than $3k. Or, maybe someone can explain to me why the only options here are ineffective electric fence/shocker system and $3k privacy fence.

Huh. Well for what it's worth, boxer, sounds like common sense to me too.

Yeah, this is all I could think of. I live in an apartment with no yard at all and manage to balance housework, eating, socializing, and taking my dog outside so the problem is a headscratcher to me.
