Re: Terrific Tuesday Randoms
I am catching up from yesterday. D&M I hope today is especially terrific for you, you deserve a break! No wonder you are feeling the way you are, you have so much on your plate. Many prayers are with you this morning as you go for your next u/s.
Noah is being a super duper good boy so far this morning, which is a WONDERFUL change from the past few. He FINALLY took some solid, unassited steps. YAYYYYYYYYYY! On Super Bowl Sunday he would take a few solid steps between all of us (my DH and I and a couple of friends). Then last night he took about 12 steps across the room to DH!!!! I of course missed it. I cried.
Good morning!
Exciting news about Noah!
Way to go Noah! That's awesome!
We found out we're getting back DOUBLE what we thought for taxes. I almost cried. This is the first year we've gotten back anything significant. I finally get to mattress shop!!!! I can't wait. I'm getting new bedding too (I told Nick, I don't care what he thinks, I want a nice looking bedroom- no more bachelor boringness). Squee! Our bedroom is going to be so pretty.
I have to drive out to Coopersville to pick up milk. Really glad the roads have been so good this year but kind of bummed I've only been skiing once.
I'm starting to see gardening classes advertised which is making me antsy for spring.
Also thinking about getting a new design for the Eat Local West Michigan blog.
Our friends and DH and I decided to rent a cottage on Lake Michigan for our couples getaway weekend - I get a discount through work. It's about a month away.
That is AWESOME!!!!!! I would have cried! Do you have colors in mind?
Yay Noah! Yay Wop! Pretty up that bedroom girl. Any ideas on color scheme?
Wendy- a cottage sounds really nice. And I've been meaning to tell you that I really enjoy your blog
Oh Wop, I saw your post about your sister yesterday and meant to ask: Do you know any salons who cater to black hair? I have a lady here who's been doing my hair since I was 7 or 8. I don't mind coming back over here to get it done, but in the winter, it would probably be better to have someone over there.
Yes! Our room is painted already Sharkey Grey by Martha Stewart
And I want this bedding which is navy and white:
And these accent pillows:
I have been having crazy short mentsrual periods lately (sorry if TMI). This last one was 22 days long. Not good for trying for #2. I called my doctor and she prescribed something for me to try to lengthen the cycle. I am hopeful that it will work. I am also hopeful that due to that I will gain back some of my energy and less of my depression like symptoms. My poor DH...Friday I was an absolute mess.
I am very hopeful that today is going to be a terrific day (have I mentioned that already?);)
WOP...love what you have chosen!
Wendy...the cottage sounds great! Hopefully you will get some snow so you can ski!
Very nice Wop!
Stargirl, I hope things start getting better for you!
My mom has always taken my sister to Vernita at Symmetry in Motion on 28th Street. I don't know of any other salons off the top of my head. I'll have to ask my mom/sister if they know of any others.
Great news, Wop! Have fun redecorating.
Stargirl, I hope you feel better soon!
Did anyone see the Pete Hoekstra super bowl ad? How embarrassing.
Here is link for anyone who hasn't seen it.
TheWop: I LOVE it!
BnG: Thanks, glad you're enjoying the blog
One thing I just posted last night is that Trillium Haven is opening a restaurant in Eastown. I'm so excited.
Stargirl, I hope the meds work quickly. 22 days is too often! I'd be a little depressed too. Today is going to be a terrific day!
Des and Mol, I wasn't here yesterday, so I'll say it here instead: I'm so glad you took a day yesterday. Giving yourself the space to let everything sink in and feel what you feel is good. I hope today is so much better for you.
Wop, I don't know if you've ever mentioned having an adopted sister from Africa before. I don't claim to know much about you, but that really surprised me. Fun hair options for her.
I finally got a paycheck yesterday (I've been waiting for the org. to get their act together). It feels good to have some dollars again.
It's appalling! Seriously.
WOW....that is terrible.
You know... part of me is really excited when candidates do blatantly terrible things like this. In my head it means people won't elect them.
But sometimes people disappoint me.
Hoekstra seems better than this. I don't know who's responsible for the lowest common denominator strategy, but this is awful.

Yep. She was adopted from Ghana when she was two. She was in a terrible house fire and has burn scars over 50% of her body, and no toes on her right foot. Her birth mother put her up for adoption because in their country she's "damaged goods" and can't be married off due to her scars. She was brought to America on a medical visa, and spent 2 months at Boston Shriners hospital getting skin grafts for some of her more serious scars. When she came to America she didn't speak English, and wouldn't eat anything but plain white rice, and water in a clear cup. She's come along way. She's a normal American 14 year old now who loves pizza and painting her nails
I'm becoming intrigued by the Mosel Valley region of Germany. Castles - check. Roman ruins - check. Wine - check. Adorable German villages - check. Relatively convenient train ride from Paris, Frankfurt, and Brussels - check.
You prefer white wine, right? If my recollection is correct, Germany would be a great bet! Also, when you're in France check out Alsace and Rhone. I think Burgundy also has some nice whites.
I'm really excited for you about this potential Europe trip!
I agree, I'm torn between thinking this is great for Senator Stabenow and being terribly disappointed. Truthfully, it makes me a little embarrassed to be a west sider. I do appreciate how Senator Stabenow always seems to stay above this stuff. From the little I know about her, she seems like a genuine person who actually wants to make things better rather to be a career politician.
I don't know what's up with the tripple post above. I'll fix it in a bit.
WOP, that's an amazing story! I hope you don't mind a few questions. If so, just ignore me. Does she keep any contact w/ her birth mother? Was it totally weird for you to suddenly have an adopted sister? I'd like to look into foster parenting sometime in the future, when Henry and Willa are older.
Yes, we prefer white. Also, I saw that you liked the suggestion about visiting the Champaigne region of France!
In theory, wine touring is appealing. In practicality, it's scary. Wineries in Traverse City intimidate me! I'm always afraid that I don't have the right wine tasting etiquette and people are judging me. Ha! I certainly couldn't hang with the Europeans.
Me too. My brother's girlfriend, who has no Michigan connections (besides dating my brother) posted on FB about this commercial. I was embarrassed that he's our local guy.
I really hope Stabenow doesn't lose her seat. I'm worried about her prospects, though.
You might find wine touring less intimidating with Europeans. Wine is such a part of daily life for them, that it's less of an "event" to go tasting, I think. But if you're intimidated, going to a town in a wine producing region and visiting a restaurant there will give you a great picture of the local wine.
