Re: Terrific Tuesday Randoms
Hoek, good luck planning this party!
In my experience, co-planning parties is tough. Maybe that's just because I'm an event planning control freak, though.
It is funny. I used to work for a non-profit in event planning / fundraising and then planned a lot of events at LV. I am trying to get her to communicate with me via email so we can document everything and I have already set up a spreadsheet with multiple guest list options, corresponding potential budgets and info on room rentals. She keeps calling and leaving voicemails.
We are clearly not compatible party planning buddies.
Whoa... I'm having flashbacks to when I planned a wedding shower for my SIL with SIL's BF. It went a lot like that, except my co-planner primarily communicated via text. It was rough.
Kasa, totally do a winery detour. I never thought I'd say this, but I kind of miss my work travel up there. I could really go for some awesome mac & cheese from the Blue Tractor, or a beer from North Peak, or that amazing salad and potstickers from Firefly...
As a bit of an aside, there seems to be a fair amount of work for attorneys up there. An attorney I met recently mentioned something to do with the American Indian legal services council up there as well. But there wouldn't be much work for L. This sounds like it would fulfill his delusional dream that I'm his "retirement plan."
My dad is following in my foot-steps. He's been house hunting (through me, ugh) like a mad man the past few weeks. Calls me every.single.day asking if I found any new houses for him.
I found 2 last week that he looked at. One sold last week, and the other he was going to make an offer on it last night, he was just waiting for the status to change from accepting owner-occupant offers to investor offers. Well, it didn't change when it was supposed to, and this morning he found out it sold! Bummer.
Called me again asking if I found him anymore. (Seriously dad? I'm freaking busy! I actually told him to go buy a smart phone or a computer with internet because I seriously don't have time for him right now...
)
Anyway, I found a perfect one for him this afternoon (so much for telling him I was too busy...ha). It's around the corner from where he lives now. Fingers crossed!
I emailed B and asked him if he'd be able to take the day off. I need to be there for an event in the morning, but then we could have the afternoon free. We could either do wineries or go skiing. Unfortunately, I don't think he's going to be able to swing it. February is a rough time for him at work.
I think TC is kind of the hub for legal services in northern Michigan (including the UP to a certain degree). And because it's such a growing area and also a place for rich people to retire, there seems to be a fair amount of work in both business law and estate planning.
L's retirement plan is funny.
Maybe I should have you search for my new place. Although I don't think it would be as easy.
I totally would buy it, but it's too rich for my blood. The houses I'm scooping up are in the $20k-$35k range. Houses that I can turn a positive cash flow almost immediately, and houses that only cost me a "car payment" if heaven forbid I can't find a renter.
2012 is your year!!! I'm very excited for you. The possibilities are so exciting while house hunting. You'll be there before you know it!
I know.
We're not on the market yet. The comps have me paralyzed. We'll have some agents through in about 2 weeks, though.
That totally cracks me up that there was a random pickle in your bagel bag. They must have known you were Pg.
BTW - Congrats. I wasn't able to post today.
