Re: OL Tuesday
Yes! It was just a bit cheesy.
When I first heard about it, I just thought it was really cool and it was not as popular then as it is now. In the same article they had info on recycled glass counter tops, which I want as well. I've been told it's more durable and easier on your feet (which is why it interests me so much in the kitchen). I have not done much research on this
Dear bank account-
I was shocked and saddened when I transferred in about 1/3 of what I normally do into savings this month. Dang doctors appointments.
Dear person-
You used to be the only person I could actually talk to at work without feeling it was going to be used against me. I'm trying to be cool about it but I don't know what's up with you or what I did to piss you off for you to just not talk to me anymore.
Dear Angie, do you have info. on your penny wall thing--I thought I saw a pic of it once but I couldn't find it on your blog.
Dear Angie/Deepthi/Jaymi, have you started reading the February book yet? I started it last night. It's....different.

I haven't posted any pictures of it yet - it's a teensy bit depressing because I'm still just slightly more than 1/4 done. But, I'm taking progress pics, and I love how it's looking so far.
I started the book, and honestly, I got confused reading it. I feel like it's jumping all over the place and I'm having a hard time following it - it was almost like I was missing some pages or something. I haven't picked it up again since my first attempt at reading it, a few weekends ago.
That is so weird. I could have swore I saw it. Maybe I dreamed it.
Hee, I felt that way too but I was so intrigued, I didn't want to put it down. It was really late though so I had to.

I can't even get my hands on the February book. It's checked out at all the libraries and the City library has like 12 holds on 3 copies with 3 weeks each and I can't get the audio book either because there are 10 on the waiting list so it's not going to happen. I haven't decided whether I want to buy it or not. DH said I could just go see the movie, lol. I have started the March book though and I really enjoy it.
I have some pins on Pinterest of other penny projects, but just not mine specifically. But, it's pretty much the same idea, only mine's a wall, and I think I have floors pinned. Liquid Nails is some amazing stuff, that's all I have to say about that
Didn't you post pictures a long time ago when asking about paint colors? Maybe that is what Stephie is thinking of?

Jaymi you can have mine when I am done if you want--I could mail it to you next week maybe.
I may take April off and read Sarah's Key--I bought it along with the books for February and March. April is a crazy month for me with my birthday, my mom's birthday, my sister's birthday, Easter and Passover!

That's incredibly sweet of you Stephie. I would greatly appreciate it.
April should be so far away but it's not...EEEK! Next thing you know it's May and then summer will be over and then it will be 2013 before we know it...AAAAHHH. That is if we last through December, of course.
With all this free time I've been reading it. I had the same confusion, but it's interesting. I hope I have time to finish it and don't cry the whole way through.

My CW made THE best blueberry coffee cake I have ever tasted and brought it to work today. Darn her. I'm bringing it to February book club, Deepthi.
Ok, Jaymi I will try and mail it to you next week so PM me your address--I will shoot for no later than Wednesday which will give you over a week to read it.
I was finally able to change my avatar after two years.

I haven't gotten too far. It looks like the back and forth will continue though.
Stephanie - I Love Coffee cake! I'm hope my adversion to blueberry disappear by then

Julie,
I am actually very excited to hear Madonna is coming to Dallas. I think she will put on a great show.
I thought she looked too skinny and I thought that was ridiculous looking too. Still, I remember seeing her first video and I thought she was so pretty and I loved her music. Gosh, why do things have to change?
Things I am looking forward to before we all die in Dec.:
Wendi's wedding, surprise party for my brother's 30th, pictures with Chelsea, the prom, a graduation party, graduation, our cruise. That's all I'm up to but I don't want it to rush by!
Using real wood is usually the most expensive option out of the three, but not always. I went to Floor & Decor in Arlington, and all their prices were so low -- there were several actual wood options that were the same price as the higher-end laminate.
The deal with engineered hardwood is that it's a layer of real wood on top, but fake underneath. If it says it can be used in high-moisture areas, that must be why -- because it's not wood underneath. And, because it's a layer of real wood on top, it can be refinished. BUT it can only be refinished once or twice -- depending on that layer of thickness of real wood on top. If it's 2 mm, then it can be refinished twice ideally (but not always, sometimes just once -- it depends how much it's sanded down during the refinishing process). Be careful, though -- most of the engineerds we looked at turned out to be only .7 mm thick of real wood. (It was in teeny tiny print). So it couldn't be refinished at all, which is the reason we were even looking at it.
Hardwoods can be refinished as many times as needed, but they are not recommended for areas that can be wet. Including kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways.
Laminate is just a "photograph" of real wood on the top layer. It's all fake. You still have to be careful with moisture with them, however -- as far as I know, they're also not recommended for wet areas. Oddly enough, laminate can actually be MORE durable than real wood. (Our contractor scratched several boards, and the real wood scratched easily -- the laminate did not). But, laminate can't be refinished. Once it's scratched, it's scratched forever. I've heard that you can, however, just remove the one board that's damaged and replace it.
There are many kinds of laminate that are really easy to install -- called "click and lock." That can be one benefit to laminate vs. hardwood.
We were dead set on the real thing, but our flooring contractor recommended that we go with laminate. For one, most of the houses in our area still have carpet -- laminate is the highest-end there is at our price point. There's no reason to upgrade to HW unless we just really wanted it for ourselves (which we thought we did). Two, once we saw how easily HW scratched -- we wanted something really durable. We probably will only be in this house 10 years -- we don't want to refinish HW (which does cost a bit of money). Yes, the laminate might be at the end of its life span then, but that's okay with us. The next buyers can replace with whatever they want.
We went with a high-end laminate and the top-of-the-line padding underneath. We did put in a scratch when we moved in (darn dollies!) so someday I'll likely be looking into whether we can just get 1 or 2 boards replaced. If not, oh well. It's not noticeable at all.
I like them all --- laminate, HW, or engineered. I really could have flipped a coin and gone with either -- there wasn't much of a price difference between them, either, at least with what we looked at.
Sorry for the novel. I researched wood floors for the last several months.
Actually, I was hoping you would stop by. Thanks for all your information. Considering our area, we maybe should go with laminate too, although I really would like wood most everywhere.
Glad to be helpful! You should check both Lumber Liquidators and Floor & Decor out -- both have pics & prices online and were MUCH cheaper than HD/Lowes. Our contractor swore that the quality was actually better at these outlet places.
And in the end, go with what you like (and can afford). We asked a salesperson who swore up and down HW was the way to go, and our contractor was just as adamant about laminate because of the durability. Since you're considering it in the kitchen, though, I'd definitely get some input from someone who knows about which is best in moist areas. (Honestly I'm not sure.)
I've heard Lumber Liquidators has really helpful people on the floor. Floor and Decor didn't seem really geared toward anyone helping you, answering questions, etc. Maybe that's why it was cheaper!
We bought both our laminate and tile from Floor & Decor -- mainly because our contractor recommended that particular store and we could buy the tile and wood at the same place. (LL only has wood materials.)
I've read mixed reviews on LL too -- but honestly I got confused when I tried to research which was the best place to buy from since they all had mixed reviews (from what I could tell). I thought maybe it came down to which material you choose. They all sell high-end and low-end stuff, after all.
I loved LL's website, though. You can read people's reviews who actually used that type of wood (and they are brutally honest) and see pictures of what the wood actually looked like down in real people's houses. I spent many hours on that website researching, although it didn't actually help me since F&D didn't sell the exact same wood/laminate options.
In the end I was lucky that my contractor actually came to the store and helped us choose. We were clueless and trusted his opinion. So far, so good!
If we do in fact do a cruise in December, we could very well be in the middle of the ocean when we are sent to space. If we can only take what we have on us at the time, we are screwed. Maybe we need to rethink this whole vacation thing.
Yes, but maybe it will be like "Titanic" and an orchestra can play for you as you guys go off into space.
