Congrats for Trying to Have a Child?
Re: Congrats for Trying to Have a Child?
And most people aren't 42 when they first start trying.....
LOL ...thanks for the laugh because I am beginning to regret even bringing this up.
I should probably edit this to better explain my situation (although I can't believe that this is where this thread went and that I should feel the need to do so).
I am 42 now....and I got married at 41...and we have been "trying" since then (ie. no BC). I am leaving my job because it is extremely stressful and, at my age, that can not be helping my chances of getting pregnant. So leaving the job is really not odd at all...and I really resent your judgy comments....first that it's odd that I'm telling anyone that I'm trying to start a family and then that it's odd that I'm leaving my job.
Hey, you don't need to justify anything to anyone so don't sweat it. You've mentioned before that your job was uber stressful, and if I remember correctly, you've been considering leaving for almost a year now. It's all good.
I think I am the obnoxious type that would have responded with a "have fun" and a wink. Maybe I should re-work that reaction, huh?
Did you ever stop to think that you may be a bit judgy yourself towards people who are simply conveying their good wishes?
She's not being judgy by just commenting that it's a bit odd. And that doesn't excuse anyone else's judginess.
I don't think anyone has been overly judgy. I think 2V asked a question and people responded with various thoughts.
If you're telling people: "I'm leaving my job so I can start a family," then I think a response of "Congratulations" is acceptable. Personally, I'd be congratulating you more for the decision to leave your job than TTCing, but either way, it works.
I wasn't judging their comments...in fact, I believe I explained that I wasn't taking issue with what they said to me. I just thought it was unusual considering I had not had the baby yet. You, on the other hand, seem to take issue with my announcing my plans and my leaving my job to pursue them. If you didn't, you would have clarified your comments by now.
Thanks Kristin. I think you comment (and wink) would be cute....and I would not have been offended by that.
2V, any chance this is coming across as weird to you because you know you're having challenges TTC, but they don't and are just excited for you? I think they're probably just hearing it as exciting news, and want to share that, however awkwardly
Maybe with the next folks, you can just make a joke of it, "DH and I agreed that I'd work for a year and then he'd support me..." or something. No reason to share the personal information if you don't like the reaction you're getting.
And btw -- CONGRATULATIONS on leaving this job and starting a less stressful chapter in your life! I hope has all of the desired effects!
