You know what I find oddly fascinating?
Preparing for an apocalypse. I mean not the guns and ammunition/hunker down and shoot zombies kind of hoarding but the rations, water and every day living things.
I mean where do they keep this stuff...how long will a can of beans last before you die from eating them?
Re: You know what I find oddly fascinating?
Have you seen this show?
http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/doomsday-preppers/
I only watched one episode. It was half "WTF these people are insane" and half "Hmm, I'm very ill prepared for the impending apocalypse."
I think I'd rather be prepared with a generator and foodstuffs than rely on FEMA. We live on a hill so a flood is unlikely, but we lost power for 9 days after Irene and made do
Didn't mean to quote myself, meant to edit, but this will do.
And we live on a well. That was by far the worst part. having a well and no electricity meant no water. In the summer with 2 toddlers.
After a few days my H figured out that our neighbor is on city water so he was able to steal some from them somehow. I don't understand the logistics of it, I was just happy for it
I haven't watched it because I am sure I will be exactly like this...exactly.
bawk, bawk.
Is doomsday preppers the one where the guy took his kids out shootin and his gun misfired and he lost part of his thumb?
My H is fascinated by this stuff and couldn't even watch that guy anymore.
I don't think that's the episode I watched, but yes that sounds like it would be from that show.
guh? I said don't tell me you'd rather not use FEMA and try to do it on your own - not that FEMA will come to your doorstep and whisk you away to your govt. mansion.
I go between laughing at these crazy people and thinking I need to buy extra can goods on my next shopping trip. My favorite episode was the woman who has plans to eat full course meals and baked goods. She was like, "I'm not eating beans, I'm going to eat good!"

If something so awful were to happen that I'd need to depend on the beans in my pantry for survival and there was nothing else I could do to get help...would it matter if I survive or not? Would I *want* to survive or not?
I'll just continue living dangerously.

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DFirst thing during an apocalypse is that I'm getting the hell out of dodge. Too many people here. I have no need for food hoard if I'm mobile. The danger with that is that we're going to have to scavenge along the way, but I'm willing to take that risk.
Disease, zombies, aliens, what have you are too big of a risk should there be "an event."
I get being prepared for hurricane season. We always had a full pantry, so all we had to do each spring was test the generator, have gas, and have a few gallon jugs for water.
But preparing for an apocalypse? I'm not going to bother.
