S/O Rascal drivers: What do you eat?
Re: S/O Rascal drivers: What do you eat?
I eat snacks, major. It's just a pain in the butt sometimes, you know? You can't eat a snack in court, for example.
I just want to be one of those people who can be like, "Oh, I eat two eggs and a piece of fruit and that keeps me full until lunch!" JEALOUS!
Or eat half your breakfast when you wake, half around 9:30. You may be hungry the first day or two but then adjust to it. Or, you may just need to front load your calories in the a.m. and eat lighter throughout the day. That's 100% fine too. I really think it's a lot of trial and error. There is no one right formula for everyone.
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
I also think it helps to know your trigger times. Like I can go from 530 to 1030 or 11 on my Kashi and banana. And lots of water ha. But I'll be fine pretty much.
But i will eat 700 calories at lunch and then be hungry an hour later. The afternoons are my problem times for some reason. It's very rare for me to not eat several snacks between lunch and dinner, regardless of what I eat for lunch. Everyone is differrent.
Like I just had a big bowl of pasta.then I decided I was still hungry.
So I made myself a milkshake. And I'm already thinking about dinner. It probably doesn't help that I'm watching Ina garten do something horrific to crab cakes (what are those peppers doing in there?!?)
That to me is more of an end stage situation though. You aren't going to be on a diet for less than, I dunno, at least a few weeks, and be able to pull that off. I know I said I don't snack anymore in another thread and that was a mistake w/o context. Snacking was my fail-safe for months until i realized I'd rather just drink a ton of tea and water than choke down my pumpkin seeds or string cheese for one more day.
Coffee (any type), caffeine, sugar, HFCS and artificial sweeteners ALL turn on your hunger hormones. I don't think I'd have gotten this far if I hadn't sworn off caffeine on a daily basis.
You can't even chew gum in court. Sometimes you can get away with eating outside the room, but it does complicate things.
Epphd, you have made me feel like five million times better. I finally feel not crazy. I really am hungry. I tried to describe it to a counselor once, about how I am terrified of being hungry because it gets so painful. I feel hunger pangs so acutely, that I'd almost eat anything.
Thank you. Now I know I'm not just a whiny baby. It is a biological thing!
Upon everyone's advice, I ate a snack of fruit today. It kept me until lunch.
Totally agree. I'm stomach goes off at 1130 for lunch. It does not matter when or what I last ate, I'm hungry at 1130 every day. Meetings that go to noon are my arch enemy.
Oh, something that has really, REALLY helped me when I was trying ti lose weight - was doubling my water consumption. I went from 6-7 glasses of water a day to like 14. Seriously. And thats more than you need but for me, if I have two cups of water before a meal and 1 cup before a snack, I stay full a lot longer.
I did check with my GP to see if I was overdoing it on water. Based on my activity levels, he said no.
Here's a typical day for me (I have a normal BMI and am also BFing):
Breakfast - 2 eggs cooked in butter, 2 slices of sprouted bran bread and 2 slices cheddar cheese.
Snack - Fruit of some sort.
Lunch - leftovers from dinner the night before. Usually a small portion of meat and some veggies.
Snack - Crackers and hummus or something like that.
Dinner - some type of meat (fairly large portion of usually pastured beef, lamb, chicken - once a week we do fish), veggies, salad. We rarely do something starchy with dinner.
Snack - popcorn made in butter or some cheese.
That's a typical day for me. I need a lot of protein to have energy and I can never skip breakfast or I will feel dead by 10 a.m. We eat full-fat, raw dairy and all organic, pastured meats. We try to eat veggies in season, except for in the winter when we live off of whatever I have managed to preserve and then supplement with stuff from the grocery store as needed. I also have a soy intolerance and one of my children has severe food allergies - this means we rarely ever go out to eat. I cook 99% of our meals from scratch at home, which I think is one of the biggest reasons my family doesn't struggle with weight issues. When you aren't able to go through a drive through or eat store-bought baked goods, you tend to consume a lot less and eat more planned out meals. If I don't bring it into my home, I can't indulge.
We should be BFF's, just for this statement alone.
Well I most certainly did NOT buy a big old bag of Easter m&ms when I went out to get lunch. No siree. Nope.

I think I could happily become a vegan if not for the awesomeness of cheese. Oh yeah, and eggs.

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DI have stated for years that Easter candy is the best candy by FAR, beating out Halloween and Vday. Cadbury mini eggs, cream eggs, robin's eggs, m and ms in pastels...

I decided long ago that Cadbury cream eggs were more important than having a perfect body. And that is why I buy an embarrassing number of boxes, keep them in the fridge/freezer, and horde them so I can enjoy them throughout the year.
One year I bought so many boxes they lasted until Christmas. It may not have been one of my finer moments in life, but ohmyfuckinggod eating cream eggs in November was AWESOME.
I'm a Rascal-driver trying to reform. Currently a typical day looks like this:
B: cafe au lait w/ 2% milk and 1 splenda; string cheese
S1: Power Crunch brand protein bar (usually eaten during a courtroom recess!)
L: green salad w/ grilled chicken, cheese, cucumber, tomatoes, onions & 1T ranch dressing; maybe 1 cup of berries
S2: 10-15 almonds, 1-2oz. beef jerky, or a Siggi's skyr
I drink water throughout the day. I've been losing 1-2lbs a week eating like this. I know I could speed it up a bit if I added in some cardio and cut out the wine, but I'm still lacking the motivation to do that.
Before I tried to reform myself, I'd have a skinny flavored latte for breakfast, string cheese for a snack, sandwich/chips or an asian noodle dish for lunch, skipped an afternoon snack, and would serve rice or pasta along with the dinner dscribed above. I'd also graze on any snacks I happened to encounter in the office & would purchase bakery goods far more often for dessert.
