Re: I slapped Joaquin in the face.

  • lololol at this obvious child abuse situation.

Who's next to endure broc's slap attack? Lambie?  FOR SHAME, broc.  Take pp's advice and just give up the child-rearing now.  Do you have an aunt or godfather who can take the poor kid?

    Look with your special eyes.

I wasn't even pissed, though. I didn't realize she was biting me until after I hit her, and I was shocked that that's what it was because like I said, she'd never bitten a person before.

You've never slapped at yourself when you feel a sudden tickle or jab around your neck?

NO!! THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED!! TO ANYONE!!! EVER!!!!!11111

OMFG... you people are flat out fooking crazy.  There is no way to successfully argue with people who think they're immune to accidentally hitting their kids or people who think that this action was pre-meditated.

I have a teeny tiny little helmet for Miss Penny Lane's head.

  • How did CPS come into play? Totally over dramatic.

I merely posted a response which sums up this way:  I believe that adults are capable of controlling a reflex. I believe a slap in the face is harsh, and never had to happen. I do not believe in hitting children under any circumstances, and I also understand that others do not share that same philosophy.

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker ...here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)
  • you slapped your child in the face? thinking she was a spider biting you?

I can see reflexively striking out while being bitten and no, this is not cps worthy, but the spider thing seems to strain credulity a bit.

Isn't the whole definition of a reflex that you CAN'T control it?

  • I did the same thing to Nico when he was young...i was lying on the couch with my arms under the back of my head asleep....Nico decided to chomp down on my under arm area...I jumped up with my arms flying around startled and in pain and I hit himas I jumped up. He was startled at that point. I don't know why he did it, but I know he never did it again,. I had a huge black and blue for 2 weeks!

Funny thing about reflexes they happen automatically.

Oh, and guess what....he is 17 tomorrow and has no lasting damage from that day!

  • Next time I think there may be a bug with its disgusting little bug feet crawling on me, I will take a breath to compose myself, count to three and hope it has not had enough time to lay eggs under my skin, because I must control my reflexes!

uuuugh I want to slap my kid again just writing that sentence. F*ck bugs.

WRT the bolded statement above: Just as some people don't believe in gravity, or some people don't believe that the world is older than 5,000 years, or some people don't believe in Dinosaurs... science actually says otherwise regardless of your ignorant and pretty useless opinion. A reflex is a reflex because it's involuntary and thoughtless. When it's no longer involuntary or something you can very easily control, it points to one thing. That thing being nerve damage.

Her kid may not get smacked accidentally... but she's in danger of thinking the world is flat and that the moon is made out of cheese.

  • ftr, I don't mean a literal reflex (eg, the body moves before the brain sends the signal because your hand is on fire or whatever), I mean a WHAT THE SH*T IS THAT GET IT OFF GET IT OFF reflex.  Also, it's not like I sat there and said, 'hmm, perhaps that could be an arachnid from one of various genuses, or perhaps some other insect. Perhaps I should remove it, or perhaps it is my child gnawing on the outer portion of my sternocleidomastoid.  My solution is to strike out, and hopefully all will fall right.'

Come the hell on people. lol.

I believe you might want to reintroduce yourself to the definition of reflex since it's obvious your previous meeting has slipped your tiny, one track mind.

  • My kids is 5 seconds old and so I totes don't know what the fook I'm talking about... BUT

I can understand the feeling of being stung or bitten and reacting compulsively. Then when you figure out its your kid's face, feeling badly. Its not like you went to town on your kid or sucker punched her or something.

Abby is into pinching lately. She's pinched me pretty hard and yeah it hurt. I instinctively went to grab her hand and it scared her. I didn't even grab hard, but she cried. I felt bad. Not exactly the same thing, but I know when you have pain & act quickly its not like you are beating your kid.

But I guess I should wait until my kid is 16 to say that I think so.

Dude, just admit you were acting smug in that post and were wearing your 5 months of parenthood as a badge to make your point.  You're fully aware of it... but you're going to stand by the fact that some of us were just being b|tchy.

  • I am LOLing so freaking hard right now at this entire thread.

Broc, if it makes you feel better, last night I set down K in the middle of a tantrum in the direct path of the corner of a wall, onto which she squarely planted her forehead because she was practically running when I set her down. This was followed up by her climbing up on our Sleep Number bed, deflating my side (which I didn't realize she'd done), and me jumping on the other side of the bed to play with her, sending her flying off my side of the bed onto the hardwood floor.

Multiple parenting fails last night. Our kids can go to therapy together.

    Oh, FFS.

I really do apologize if it came off as acting smug. It wasn't my intention. I was just offering my, allbeit very limited, experience. I know that I've not be at this very long, but I certainly didn't mean to slap my words on like a badge of expertise. So I do apologize for that.

I just think its ridiculous that there is some arbitrary age limit (somewhere or so it is insinuated) in order for someone with a kid to be able to opine. That is how it appears. If that's not it then please correct me.

I really didn't mean to be douchey and I apologize if it seemed that way.

I was thinking this as well.

I almost smacked my kid after he pinched me. If there is one thing I can't stand when it comes to pain it's pinching (stubbing my toe comes a close second). I all but threw him at my husband so I could swear in peace.

  • When DS was about 2 yrs old he hated baths.  He always fought me to get him in the tub.  One time he slipped and hit the shower door tracking right between the eyes.  Ended up with a bump and a black eye.  Daycare grabbed him and brought him into a room without me to question him as soon as we walked in the door the next day to daycare to make sure I wasn't smacking him around. I felt like a really bad mom and it was a complete accident.  They made me feel like sh!t even though I knew I hadn't done anything wrong.  I know they were just doing their job, but they had zero tact in the whole thing.

I feel like people get way too judgy on these boards.  Accidents happen.  Sheesh.

Clearly you know nothing about the brain, the body or anything related to the two. I bet you will be one of those parents that thinks its cute when your spawn runs around biting people on the playground because they wont get out of your kids way.

When should I present myself for my TIP flogging?!

  • I can't wait for that special moment when these two perfect mommys accidentally trip over their kid or accidentally catch their kid's fingers in a door. I hope they think about this post and feel ashamed.

I also hope they post about it so I can get up on my high horse and declare them azzholes.

    This is my siggy.
