Question about today

Re: Question about today

  • The world is overflowing with BS and if you're naive enough to listen to it then you do deserve to fail.  If you give up so easily, did you really want it that bad in the first place?

  • okay let's think about this for a minute.....can you imagine how many naysayers there are in the world that must have told obama he could never be president in this lifetime?  If he had listened to them he wouldn't be where he is today, correct?
  • this is a crazy heated topic, but i will just add my two cents.

i do think it is crazy the way this inauguration has been broadcasted, but i do think it is neccessary. they estimated that on the mall alone there were 1.5 million people, the most ever in history right behind lyndon johnson at 1.2 million. and those people are not there because he is black, they are there because he is our new president, one that we can all put our faith in as doing great things for our downtrodden nation.

he has a ridiculous amount of pressure on his shoulders, but he is strong and his character will persevere through the tasks at hand. it truly is an unbelievable event in our history and i am just so happy to have witnessed it all.

The fact that you make that statement shows how your life has been so different from so many years ago.  It is good that you have had all of the opportunities that you have had and that the world has never sent the message to you that you cannot do something because.....

I HIGHLY disagree that people deserve to fail because they listened to the messages that the world is giving them.  Nobody deserves to fail at anything.

Ah yes so much was just handed to me.  Let's see I got a full scholarship to a school for academics because I was just handed A's in highschool.  I was also just handed my degree because I put no work into it at all.  You don't think people didn't tell me it was to hard and I couldn't do it.  Unlike most people I gave them the big ol "screw you", and did it anyway just to prove a point.

I am where I am today because I worked hard and continue to work hard.  I don't expect things to be handed to me and do what I need to to succeed.  No matter what people tell me.

If you are going to listen to every ass that says you can't do it, then yes you deserve to fail.  Giving up when it gets hard is called failure.

Where did I say things were "handed to you"?  I said opportunities, opportunities and a free ride are not the same thing.

  • You have to find opportunities and make your own (ie getting scholarships) if you can't find them.  Did you know that Obama went to a prestigeous private school in Hawaii and that's how he got into Harvard?  I'm sure that some of his success can be attributed to his education.
  • Most American presidents attended and Ivy league university.

    A scholarship is an oppertunity.

  • I wish I was here earlier for this discussion. Lilylow, I actually agree with you in so many ways. I dont want any part of today for my own personal reasons. I didnt vote for Obama, and am still bitter about him being president ( my own personal problem). What makes me angry is that so many people voted for him only because of his color. But no one will ever admit to it. I love Oprah, she is an amazing person but Obama could be a rapist and she would still vote for him. SHe is a great example of only voting for him because he is black. Yes, it is wonderful that the first African American person became president, but it's more than that. I could go on for hours on this topic. I think people just assum that because he is black and different that he is going to make great positive changes. People have failed to really look at who is really is and what he truly believes in. I remember when I first heard about Hilary and Obama were going to be candidates. I was very excited about it. But then I took it upon myself to learn as much as I could about all the candiadates ( not only the ones media shows) and learned those two werent for me or stood for what I believed in. I think it is fine if a person did their research and still wants to vote for that person, as long as they are educated and not just voting because their slogan is FOR CHANGE. Find out what that change means....SOrry I am rambling. Like I said I could go on for hours about this
