I personally don't care for his attitude - he will bash muslims, latinos, whoever else and then end it saying "but I have very close muslim friends and they are great people"….lol
I totally agree!  I hate that so much.  It's disgusting.

It reminds me of the old, "But I can't be racist, some of my best friends are black."

I'm surprised no one brought up this little Trump gem in the discussion, but there was also a lot of disgust with his, "I'm a negotiator like you," comment to the Republican Jewish Coalition.

(Sigh) At least he is an equal opportunity stereo-typer.

  • Most polls have Rubio in second in NH and nationally, I believe.  Polling is so inaccurate though.

I watched it.  He said tons of Jewish stereotypes.  It was hard to watch.

I know I am preaching to the choir, but it's just yet another example of why he would be a horrible president.  He doesn't even have the good sense to not make stereotypical Jewish jokes to a whole convention of Jewish people!  Isn't that the point of politicians making speeches?  To try and bring the crowd around to like them and their ideas?  Not to turn people away.

When the booed him he said "You just don't like me because you can't control me with your money!"  No sir, we don't like you because you are a bigoted asshole.

Except he can be controlled with his money considering he IS largely being funded by donors...
  • So interesting... http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/12/13/i-trolled-the-trump-focus-group.html

Now this guy says he wants Trump to win so he could lose in a landslide and wake up the Republican Party... maybe he's right.

I swear there was a troll in the focus group I did with Frank Luntz.  He was totally Dem, no way he wasn't.  I wanted to punch him- he was rude as hell.
  • So the new headlines are that Putin loves Trump. Do you all think this is something to celebrate?

I can see his point.  You would have thought that they would have woken up by now though without it going to this level.  If he gets the nomination there is no hope for the republican party ever again.

  • @vlagrl29- about Putin-I agree. I'm confused with the media making it sound like a good thing.

About the Republican Party-I live in a conservative area with a lot of evangelical Christians-Trump and Cruz's prime target. It's to the point where all the white baby boomers are now posting things against the Republican "establishment" everyday. They post articles attacking Paul Ryan on Facebook just as much, if not more than, attacking Obama. I'm hoping we are just riding a wave and once the baby boomers stop voting, we'll have the Gen Xers and Millenials, who tend to be more moderate, left to bring the party back together. But if not, I see a serious split happening. I know very few Millenials who support Trump.

  • Statistically Trump is getting the middle age and older white male vote.  I'm fairly confident he's going to win NH just based on polls, but I can't figure out who is actually voting for him.  I don't know anyone.

I know quite a few females who lean Trump.

That's weird to me that baby boomers are bashing repubs. I would think that most boomers are repubs. I hate all that FB political bashing memes. Personally I don't post those hate kind of posts because I don't want people forming a weird opinion of me.

It's so hard to say what will happen. I don't know anyone that wants trump except maybe my parents. Haven't talked to them in awhile about politics so I don't know if that's changed or not.

I'm really noticing a split in the Republican party. There are the so-called "Establishment Republicans" who trust the RNC enough to at least be on the right side of the political game. Then there are the anti-establishment Republicans that Trump, Cruz, and Carson are trying to lead. These people are scaring me because I don't know what they think they want. They call themselves "Republican" but don't like or trust the RNC, don't like or trust Congress, and don't like or trust Democrats. They aren't going to get anything done by just bashing everyone in our political system instead of trying to work together. That's why I do like Rubio. He can work with Democrats and Congress, and it seems he has certain principles he won't back down on, and others he is willing to work together to at least move forward. The anti-establishment Republicans are what I'm seeing Baby Boomers going toward.
  • ^Totally with you
  • That makes sense - I would say the boomers are liking those such as trump.  My FIL and his wife still think Obama will do Marshals Law before his term is up.

  • I always thought the Trump supporters are the former Tea Partiers.

Ummmm no.  Not at all.  Gah I find it infuriating how the media reported on the "tea party".  1. it's not a freaking party... just a very loose organization.  2. They were basically libertarians, not the extreme right.  They believed in moving closer to constitutional fundamentals and limited government (thus the "taxed enough already" TEA).  3. Because it wasn't a party, there were no "members".  I went to a couple of events, but I didn't consider myself a "tea partier".  The events were just about limiting over reaches of the federal government.  Social issues were never mentioned in any way, which is why extreme right wingers didn't participate.

Trump supporters certainly don't believe in limiting federal government as they are supporting a candidate who would like to make the executive branch even more powerful and who doesn't understand or respect the basic negative rights of the Constitution.  People who participated in "tea party" events, were ardent supporters of the Constitution.

While I have no doubt there is some over lap (mostly people who have no idea what they actually want or are fighting for), the two groups have very little in common.
  • ^^^Thanks for clarification! It seems odd, then that Cruz and Trump are being buddies if their views on the size and powers of government are so different. If they run together, that seems messy...

I don't get it either.  I don't get the people who seem to like both of them.  They are nothing alike other than both being bombastic.  Personally I don't like either of them, but for different reasons.
  • They called themselves the Tea Party. What else should the media call them? A bunch of weirdos walking around with tea bags on their heads who believe the Constitution isn't being upheld? Seems excessively wordy to me. The extreme religious right isn't going to go for Trump. He's divorced at least twice and hasn't been known for going to church. Plus there's the whole gambling thing.

I didn't say they shouldn't be called the Tea Party.  I'm saying it's not a political party like the media presented it (I know tons of people who believe it's like the "green party" or another independent polical party).  Who the hell is walking around with tea bags on their heads?  I went to a few rallies and never saw that.  Mostly it was people discussing the Constitution and the modern application and limiting the scope of the federal government.  There was nothing remotely extreme about it.  I never said that Trump supporters were religious right, btw- I was simply making a separate point about the Tea Party.  I said that Tea Party-sympathizers weren't Trump supporters because Trump doesn't follow any of the same ideals.
  • I think there is probably quite a bit of overlap. I think the one thing both groups have in common is that they are really upset about the status quo. They want something completely different. And Trump provides that. The Tea Party lost steam because they couldn't get organized. They didn' have a vision for what they wanted - only what they didn't want.
  • Just Google Tea Party rallies and tea bags and you will see them

I'm kinda scared to see what I find on that google search. lol

ETA - I did google it. I had no idea they really wore tea bags on their hats.  that's lame.

  • So I was watching the news tonight and it looks like cruz and trump are the top of the candidates and I just stare at the tv thinking "is this all there really is" - I can't vote for either.  I don't care for Hilary either.  I think I might be voting 3rd party this year if that's all there is.  I know I"m throwing my vote away but oh well.

Excuse my little bit of vulgarity, but this year's election reminds me so much of the "Douche vs. Turd Sandwich" South Park episode.  The gist of the episode was they had to change their school mascot from the "Cows", because PITA had protested it.  The school makes the mistake of letting the students decide on two choices to vote on.  And the kids picked "Douche" and "Turd Sandwich".

At any rate, the episode was a not-so thinly veiled lesson about the importance of voting even when one's choices are...ahem...less than exalting.

Ahahahaha. I vote Cruz as Douche, Hilary as Turd Sandwich and Trump as Schlong Face.

But seriously, I'm super nervous for the holidays because my whole family loves Cruz and Trump and thinks Hilary is the devil. And I'm over here thinking they all suck and just don't want to get in arguments with them all.

Come to my Christmas.  All my parents and I will be talking about is how ridiculous the Republican Party is being by supporting Trump and what's wrong with this country that demagogues are getting such overwhelming support.

Do you really think that the Republican Party is supporting him? I'm not getting that vibe at all.
