What are gas/oil prices in your area?

With our first year of owning a home and having an oil tank..I'm thrilled that oil is $1.56/gal! We normally fill it up when it's at the 1/2way point...but I can't imagine having to fill this thing when it's over $3/gal like it was a few years ago? Ugh!

Our gas is around $1.90/gal

Wish I had giant tanks to stock up!

  • ours is $1.64 today.  I'm loving it.  I average around $18 every time I fill up my empty car tank.

While I'm not thrilled about low gas prices, as it is costing some of our friends their jobs and/or making them relocate and/or travel to some not so great places for long periods of time (one friend goes to Mexico, not the nice part, for 3 weeks a month), I can't say I totally hate it either.  It's also helping out other industries, like the auto industry, so it's all one big circle anyway.

I paid $1.65 at Costco the other day.  H said he paid $1.89 for diesel yesterday.  It's saving me about $50-60/mo off my budgeted line item for gas.

ETA:  forgot to add, I'm in Colorado.  And, it's also devastating H's dad's business in Wyoming, as it all completely revolves around oil and natural gas (he does small haul trucking).
  • Our last fill-up was $1.53/gallon.  That was last week though.  I'm guessing tomorrow's is going to be below $1.50.

I really don't like it.  This is due to price manipulation in the middle east, and it's one of the big things tanking the market right now. This is yet another reason the US should have looked at alternative energies 10 or 20 years ago, because it would have decoupled us from the middle east.

I would rather pay $3/gallon than watch our retirement fund drop by thousands of dollars.

There's a comfortable price range where the oil and gas industry can make money, but consumers and shipping/travel industries aren't being gauged either.

  • This morning I saw $1.68. I'm neutral on the issue. We have several oil stocks we've seen plummet. I'm also the beneficiary of mineral interests, so any savings on car gas has been negated by losses here.

Personally, related to our economy, I'm less worried about the Middle East than I am about the stagnation in China.

  • We are higher than most of you, around $1.90. Sure, it's nice, but I am worried about the broader economic implications and the fact that it might cause people to shift away from energy-efficient vehicle and alternative energy development.
  • Ours is around $2.13 a gallon - still costs me over $30 to fill my tank, but much easier on my wallet than when it was $55 to fill.
  • Gas is $1.87/gallon by work. It's generally about $0.10 cheaper at home (I live about 30 miles south of where I work.) My dad works in the oil and gas industry. I'm interested to hear what his thoughts are during our weekly chat tonight.
  • I filled up at $1.65 yesterday. And although I like the price at the pump, I'm firmly in the this sucks camp. Dh is in the oil industry, and so many of our friends are (Houston area). It's hard every time you hear about layoffs wondering which friend is going to be hurt.
And I agree with whoever said it's completely due to opec. They are trying to drive the price down enough that their competition gets out of the business. What they don't seem to understand is that the us is full of entrepreneurs and sure you may drive x companies out of business, but as soon as prices go back up there will be new ones to take their place.

  • About $1.80 a gallon for mid-grade. Yesterday, I paid $1.30 a gallon with my discount from King Soopers (Kroger) points.

  • Gas is $1.61 here.  Hoping it continues to drop.  Would love to see $1 gas again.  Either way, it's nice to not be spending $40-50/tank to fill up my car.

  • I paid $1.73 this morning for gas.  Oil is $1.47!  What a difference from the past year or so.  We've paid in the high $3's and I think one time went a little over $4.00/gallon.  Our tank is 400 gallons and we try and fill when it's halfway - so we were getting $800 bills like every 6-8 weeks.  We still plan to switch to gas sometime - just not this year.  :)

You're in NY right?  It's the taxes.

  • They say it may get at low as $10 a barrel but I find that hard to believe

  • Wow, I'm jealous! Ours has been hovering between $2.90 and $3.10/gallon. I remember when it was $25 to fill up my tank in high school lol. Now it's almost twice that.
  • I filled up yesterday at $2.10. I'm trying to stretch our budget currently and am able to do $18/week for my car and $30/month for DH (mainly used to travel to bus stop). I know this won't last though, we're in a HCOL area.

yes I am- and I believe we actually have the highest rates in the state so it's even worse than other parts of NY.

That's so funny.  Houghton, MI was where we picked up our snowmobiles last weekend to ride up to the U.P.  We filled them up for $1.12/gallon before returning them.  My H even snapchatted it to everyone, because it was crazy cheap and he knew nobody would believe him.

That's in mid-northern Michigan. Down in metro Detroit it about $1.41. I have noticed by budget for gas each month is going down and saving me about $50 to $75.

Yeah this year I had budgeted $300 a month for DH and I's gas for our cars and we are hitting average around $150 per month.  Its crazy!

  • At Costco in NOLA yesterday, regular was $1.51.  But we suck it straight off the nearby refinery teats, so gas is usually on the lower side compared to most other states.  Of course, my prissy car takes Premium and that was $1.91.  But at least she gets about 35 MPG.

Speaking of the gas wars from above, in Louisiana, it is actually illegal for gas stations to sell their gas at a loss.  They HAVE to make a profit on it.  Although that sounds weird, there is method to the madness.  It is to keep big chain gas stations from pricing out their competition...become a monopoly/oligopoly for an area...and then jack the prices up sky high.

I used to drive past a gas station on 460 in Virginia.  It was right in front of a distribution point.  I wouldn't have been surprised if they just ran a pipe over.  It was the most expensive gas for miles around.

  • Went and filled up again today and it was down to $1.60... so down 5 cents in 6 days.
